Hi sarona- thank you for the info- it makes perfect sense- it's like my hair is coming to life again (feels thicker than ever, despite the oilyness!). Because I have a dry scalp (previous experiments with hair bleach gone hideously wrong!), I tried adding a little tea tree to my rinse but it seems to be making my scalp flake a bit so I've stopped using it. Does any one know a good rinse to he

Do enjoyable activities that get you sweaty, drink lots of water and be as active as possible. Watching the scales can be very painful! Just keep up the exercise, and you'll feel those little differences- looser clothing, more energy etc. Losing lots of weight in a short space of time isn't a good way to lose weight, IMHO.

I am aching to get some sun! I love rainy days, but it's starting to get a bit depressing now! I'm going to Tuscany in the summer and although I'm the not the sort to show much skin, I think I might dress a bit more skimpy to get some long overdue vit d!

Thanks for the response I'll try the lemon juice- though maybe having oily hair is a good thing- after years of drying out my hair with bleach, perms and hair dye!

Buy food from the fruit/veg sale section in your grocery/supermarket or visit the markets late in the day to see if they're trying to sale their produce off cheap. Try to buy high calorie items to keep you filled up- melons, bananas, carrots, some mixed nuts and seeds, apples etc. If you make smoothies, water them down more than usual or use ice. If you have any green areas nearby, there

I've been going without shampoo and conditioner for about 3 weeks now. I used to do no 'poo with good results but fell of the wagon when I got addicted to using hair conditioner again :| After a vigorous wash, I give my hair a very light vinegar rinse, then a rinse with peppermint or green tea (which is very soothing). What's strange is whilst washing it, I can feel this greasy, slightly st

I have salicylate sensitivity which in theory, means I'm very allergic to certain fruits (amongst a million other things). Yet being raw, I was more allergy-free than ever. With my own allergies, I don't even think one particular food is often to blame. Sometimes it's a combination of different foods that trigger the allergy (but could be eaten separately without problem). I think even traces

Hi Tara I prefer to eat local and or homegrown too! There are so many weird and wonderful fruits and veggies out there. It was going to my local farmers market that made me realise that local produce was far more exciting than the supermarket! If you have a windowsill spare maybe you could grow some more unusual mixes of salad leaves in a small tub? And how about sprouts? Maybe prepare a b

You can buy some dried fruits partially hydrated, but I agree with frances. It's not the same. Although dried fruits get used a lot in raw recipe books, I always got the impression it was more for convenience and taste than for health i.e. to make sweet bases for raw pies and cakes. I doubt soaking a dried fruit is going to raise its nutrition back to truly raw status in anyway. Also, lot of

Rosa mosqueta oil. Awesome stuff. It hydrates the dry parts without making other parts oily. Also can be used on stretchmarks and wrinkles.

flipperjan- MSG (E number 621) is an additive. Many people have a sensitivity to it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glutamic_acid_(flavor)#Research_into_health_effects). It's in lots of savoury foods, especially crisps. LV- if you rotate lots of different types of crisps (pre-raw, haha!), you can definitely pick out the taste the MSG difference between them. It's a very weird taste- dry, salty,

I also like hemp in my smoothies I agree with flipperjan about processed powders- maybe you could try a a few spoons of hemp seeds instead? The fresh seeds give smoothies a slightly nutty texture. Strawberry, banana and hemp= delicious!

I was working out earlier and suddenly I could taste really strong MSG in my mouth. I haven't had MSG for a while, but I am trying to detox caffeine (my old deadly duo was msg & caffeine). It was very strange. Any idea if this was an actual physical detox sympton or possibly a psychological one?

What kind of fast are you going to do, satori? Diahorrea is supposed to affect the effectiveness if it occurs within X hours of taking the pill. I always thought condoms were way more effective than the pill... though obviously, um, not all that convenient sometimes- and vegan condoms are sometimes hard to come by <insert joke!>

Hi guys. Thanks for the responses. I had a feeling it would be okay, just wanted to check in case these were certain seeds that became prone to mould or something. Will test them out- and do a taste test... of course! I'm kind of dreading sprouting the sesame seeds though. For some reason, I've always had bad luck sprouting outside of the typical mung bean/alfalfa/radish sprouting seeds. Sesa

Hi ROIRRAW. When I last went to the dentist, the hygenist recommended drinking lots of water before brushing (after eating/drinking acidic foods/drinks). Brushing apparently aggravates the situation. (like lisa m said^) If you're worried, maybe you could start the day with a greens-based breakfast, brush your teeth, then eat your apples/oranges as a mid-morning snack at work (followed by l

I have some half-open bags of seeds (for sprouting)- broccoli, mung bean, sesame and alfalfa. All expired last year (some mid 2008, some late 2008). Are they still okay to sprout? They have been kept in a cupboard.

I find it very hard to take an article about human health seriously when the author starts quoting animal testing, especially the completely pointless, ridiculous experiments that don't involve nature on any level- lab rats and food pellets.

PS: I usually mix my sprouts with salad for extra 'crunch', but you can use them in soups or as a garnish for soups, in raw nori rolls etc. I've never sprouted buckwheat but some dehydrated gourmet dishes use buckwheat sprouts. Also, you can sprout wheatgrass and juice it/add to smoothies.

Hi Semyon, Sprouting seeds/beans is really easy First you need something for the sprouts to grow in- you can either buy a germinator to do lots of different sprouts at the same time, like this: Or you can buy a jar like this: Or you can just use a plain jar with muslin cloth. Then you buy your seeds- there are loads of different types- alfalfa, red clover, mung bean, brocco

Tamukha- thank you for all the very helpful information! In a way, raw tofu actually looks easier than normal tofu (which was very messy because of the all the boiling!). I have an expensive tofu press here that isn't really doing anything so it'd be great to use it again! arugula- great idea! I work about 10 minutes walk away from China Town (which also gives me the excuse to see if they have

Hi volcomchick, I have lapses of eating junk (worse one- cola! when stressed at work, I always end up craving cola, and giving into the craving!) and then after feeling sick, I end up vowing to go raw and never eating the bad stuff again. Now, I am trying to wean myself off slowly rather than going 'cold turkey'. I think I saw someone mention on here before that as long as you keep remembering

Guys(and gals!)- what does sprouted soya taste like then? Bitter? Or is the texture weird? I'm kind of used to the calcium sulphate taste of normal squidgy tofu- so as long as it's not completely disgusting, I think my tastebuds maybe able to handle it!

hi Tamukha- the recipe is from "Feasting on raw foods" and is this: Place 1 lb (455g) soya beans in a container, cover with water and allow to soak overnight (12 hours). Drain & refrigerate the soaking liquid. Allow the soya beans to sprout 36 hours, rinsing and draining every 8 hours (discard this liquid). Place 2 oz (55g) of the sprouted beans in a blender, gradually addi

Hi CJJ, From the Vegan Society: Recommendations< Eat plenty of low oxalate high calcium green leafy vegetables Dairy products are not the ideal food for bone health. 100 g of a low oxalate high calcium green leafy vegetable such as kale, turnip greens or spring greens will have at least as much beneficial effect on calcium balance as 200 g of milk. Using the green stuff instead of the
