Man lost 10 stone by drinking water and vitamin powder. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Idris Lewis, 69, was told in January that if he did not lose 11 stone by the end of July, he could not have an operation on his heart and could die within a year. Mr Lewis, a retired civil servant from Nailsea, near Bristol, suffers from a chronic lung condition a

But say you have to dehydrate sweet potato for 24 hours, and the potato gets steamed for 5-10 minutes immediately after it is peeled. Even though it's not raw, surely it's fresher than the dehydrated potato?

How does dehydrated food measure up (in the health stakes) against steamed food? i.e. what's healthier- dehydrated sweet potato or steamed sweet potato?

Wow. Those are very powerful stories, thank you for sharing. As upsetting as the stories are, it's inspiring to read that you have gained strength from them. It's sad that there isn't more support for gentle treatment for disease My partner's grandmother is very sick with untreatable cancer. She'd always had health problems, yet AFAIK never attempted to heal them via diet or lifestyle change. Ol

I never had any issues with my weight until a turning point in my early twenties where I developed a 'taste' for SAD-style (veggie) food and became slightly overweight. At the time, I was isolated in an awful, one-sided relationship and I had brainwashed myself into thinking everything was okay and normal. I've always disliked thinking about this time as it brings up feelings of resentment and bi

I agree. I don't see how anyone can live a fairly inactive lifestyle and assume that just eating raw food will keep them slim/toned. Also if you're already overweight, trying to get rid of those last few pounds is always extremely difficult no matter how miraculous your diet. It's easy to fall into a 'comfort' zone where you definitely aren't overeating, but aren't exercising enough either. Th

If you feel uncomfortable, just tell the others you're vegan for allergy-reasons and to be on the safe side, a salad with some seaweed will be fine. That will keep them quiet.

kris- where's the science in nightshades interfering with b12 consumption? Are any edible nightshades worse than others for this? i.e. tomatoes worse than eggplant? I occasionally take a liquid b12 supp. I feel 'better' for having it, more for peace of mind than anything.

Organic, dried peppermint tea used to be part of my morning routine, until I ran out and forgot to buy more. It was then I realised how dehydrated it was making me feel. It would get my digestion working quickly, but I would also feel thirsty and a little lethargic. I've stopped drinking it now, but am using the odd green tea here and there to wean me off of my caffeine addiction. In the c

dhsredhead- I'm UK based. The supermarkets only carry usually carry 1 or 2 rice milk brands, but since I tend to frequent health food shops more, their non raw alternatives to cow's milk tend to have very basic ingredients, that includes nut milks too. As for the salt, many 'raw' food recipes are loaded with it! Obviously, two wrongs don't make a right, but I guess it depends on the individual an

Even though store-bought rice milk isn't just rice and water it is a far healthier alternative to cow's milk (http://www.milkmyths.org.uk/health/index.php). Most popular rice milk brands usua

I used to make a smoothie from strawberries, bananas, a small amount of hulled hemp seeds, a date or agave and it was GORGEOUS! The hemp seeds made it really creamy and helped balance the sweetness.

I thought they were the same thing, but I thought that people tend to use the word goji when referring to the dried berry and used the word wolfberry when referring to the fresh berry/plant. I got two goji/wolf berry plants for my birthday. Yay!! I just looked on Wikipedia- I didn't know they were in the nightshade family!

pakd4fun- I never knew figs were high in calcium (I am a sucker for a fig- fresh, dried, whatever, they're beautiful!). I have eaten them like that before too, and given my yoyo attitude to food (one day healthy, next day unhealthy and so on), I wouldn't be surprised if I was deficient and it was my body spurring me on! Thanks for the answers and experiences. I guess I feel like of all the yea

I love this skit so much! I like the bit where he says 'people don't know what to do with fruit' and imitates someone stabbing feebly at a grapefruit with a knife. Haha! That's what I'm like! 'What do I do with it!?'

For a long time I've been a bit confused by deficiencies and their longterm effect. Lets say someone was fairly deficient in protein and several vitamins (i.e iron, zinc etc) for ten years, what does it take to repair that damage? What exactly IS the damage? Can the body even recuperate at all- even by going raw and ensuring they get adequate protein, zinc, iron, B12 etc? Surely even eating r

When my dad buys cellophane-wrapped bananas (instead of loose), opening the wrapping gives off a smelly-feet smell! Sometimes it's off putting and I'll use the banana in a smoothie instead of by itself. I haven't had any ill effects, but you're right, it is a bit strange.

What non-raw specific books are good source of inspiration to help you stay raw/raw vegan? They can be about anything, animal rights, politics, environment, psychology etc. My boyf. bought me "Belching the Devil" which talks about how Coca Cola manipulates people into thinking they need their product, how union leaders have been murdered in Columbia, and that in India they steal or
