Green Smoothies! Mmmm! My smoothie this morning consisted of 2 granny smith apples, 2 handfuls spinach, 1 handful arugula, a piece of ginger, 1 handful peas, 3 leaves of lacinato kale and 1 spoon of spirulina/wheatgrass powder. It was awesome! My fruit smoothie was 1 handful soaked goji berries, 1 peach and some cranberries. (IMO-peaches and mangoes are interchangeable). I also had a mango

What are signs of low protein anyway? Doesn't the body produce protein itself? Amino acids are the "building blocks" of protein and they are found in vegetables, grains and nuts. That's what I have gathered from reading. Is this right?

I have the same problem, sorta. I just crave sugar like crazy. Whole-wheat bread with agave and vegan butter spread to be exact. It's just like french toast. haha But, I did come up with a sweet raw mix that helps with the cooked sugar craving, although I'm trying to calm the sugar addiction all together. Maybe 100% raw just isn't right at this time. It's all about the smooth transition it seems

This is one of the reasons why I refuse to mess with a dehydrator. I've already given up many foods, why not give up crackers and cookies too? If I want dry grains, I sprout them and leave them on the table top or in the window to see the sun. Sorry this isn't an answer, this is just my personal thoughts.

Green smoothies are an excellent way to get greens. I usually just put whatever I have in the blender. Kale, Spinach, Mint, Apple and water is a nice combination. I am not a recipe-ist, so maybe someone else has something in those regards. As for your ketchup/mustard green eating habits, perhaps you would enjoy a raw homemade dressing. Ketchup is just tomato, vinegar and sugar. Try so

The way it seems to me is that Man was intended to eat "every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed." During the time of the flood, The earth was covered in water so of course most plants and trees were not obtainable. God/Nature knew that Man needs food to survive so meat consumption was allowed only because it was

I tried using Ecover. But, since my I'm grateful to have a husband who washes the clothes, he's convinced that clothes are not clean if there are no suds. He over used the soap to try to get the suds. Unfortunately, we used Tide. I am trying to sneak in some Indigo Wild brand laundry detergent. Maybe they have more suds.

The farmers here have HUGE signs that say "organic produce" and "non-gmo produce." There has to be a label somewhere. Even if they haven't been "certified organic" they will tell you that they practice organic farming methods. I hope your neighbors aren't trying to poison you!

I found the dirt. Not a problem. A local nursery keeps it on stock. For brand names to look for, here's the link.

Thanks for the reply. About the peppers, I didn't intend for them to grow, but since they have sprouted, I just want to let them continue. I did read that they need to be warm and get water otherwise they may be bitter. I'm just trying to find out if they will have enough room to grow. The pot is about 1.5-2 feet deep.

I have a big patio that I would like to start up a small garden on. Right now, I just have a compost box that I need to start over because I didn't know what I was doing to begin with. I threw bell pepper scraps in the compost and they started sprouting. Maybe about 20+ sprouts. Should I dig them out and separate them into different pots? I don't know how big they will grow and how much room

I think it turned out pretty well. It's like a mix between a red vegetable smoothie and hummus. I added some chopped veggies and grass sprouts for extra textures.

I use soap for my hair, but only once a month or further in between. I just use Dr. Bronners Peppermint oap diluted 50/50. I need to keep oil in my hair. I actually add almond/coconut oil and herbs to my hair. I wash my hair with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose conditioner occasionally. I have only been raw for 6 days and I am African so there is a big difference. I just wanted to contribute t

And by the way, I don't use any "fancy blender." I use the blender my mom bought me for christmas 2 years ago. I think it was about $10-15 from wal-mart.

I made a "green smoothie" today. I don't have this book you are referring to, but my smoothie was definitely green. I put a couple raspberries, 1 apple, 1/2 mango and a huge handful of spinach and 1 medium leaves of lacinato kale. It was GREAT! What an awesome way to eat more leafy greens. No chewing involved. :-) But by chewing food, the saliva is created to help digest the food,

I read your reply about the solar healing and "here comes the sun" popped into my head. I think my hair soaks up all my sun! It's a big curly black bush of hair and I can feel the heat in it when I'm under the sun. I'm definitely asking the local mushroom farmers about this mushroom/vitamin d thing though. The articles I read made it seem like experimentations with UV rays. No

Thanks SO much for your answers! I've also heard people say that sea vegetables are a good source of vitamin D. I will continue to research. Thanks for the mushroom tip. I believe that there is enough sun in Kansas, I'm just making sure I'm touching all bases. I didn't want to have to resort to some processed additives if I can get it in it's whole raw natural form.

It seems that the only way to obtain Vitamin D is by either sunlight or supplements/fortified foods (which I understand to be ergocalciferol and cholecalciferol). My question now is how are these processed? Are these things that cannot be heated as well. As a cooked, packaged-friendly vegan, this was never a concern because I would buy whatever fortified "milk" and not think twice a

I was looking at Juliano's raw book and he mentions black bean sprouts in it but never addresses the issues or not. So, by this I'm assuming they may be okay. I hate mixed information! haha I'm sticking to red lentils and chickpeas right now but I would love black beans since they are always in stock at my house. I've seen black-eyed pea sprouts before. Maybe I can look into those too.

Thanks so much! I don't really do recipes, I just look at pictures and figure things out. Whatever I have on hand or whatever looks pretty at the market, I grab it and put it together. :-) I'm definitely going to make some kind of lentil soup soon. Now, I'm just sprouting garbanzos. Living plant food is exciting! Way more exciting than cooked food! :-)

I know SOMEONE out there must know something. You do eat sprouts, right? I know I can sprout chickpeas and lentils, I'm trying to find out about black beans specifically. I know black beans can sprout, but are they toxic? Based on what I saw at sproutpeople.com, they say to cook them. Maybe they are edible if you just simply soak them? Please help me from getting ill.

I'll say something. I don't know if this is true, but it makes sense in my head. I believe morning would be best. It seems that the morning dew may give them needed moisture and it would be before the sun comes to dry them off. Just like sprouting, the moisture is needed to bring them back to life. Maybe this is the same. Wait...let me google something.. From HGTV.com "Pick vegetab

I've never even touched a gun! If you believe in conspiracy theories, you may feel you should fear for your life when "all hell breaks loose," but as for now, I think things are okay. Protection is good, but scary in my own opinion.
