Can anyone point me to the link for the "Five Finger Shoosies Thing-A-Ma-Bob-Its" that coco mentioned??..They sound interesting.. As a note, it takes from 6 months to well over a year to develop the kind of callus on the soles of one's feet needed in order to be able to withstand walking & running around in the out-of-doors barefoot.. Unfortunately, for those of us that live i

Lois & Kise How long do the two of you propose to continue requesting that Bryan address your concerns when it is obvious that he is reluctant to do so??..A month??..Six months??..A year??.. It seems to me that you both need to conduct these discussions off the board..If Bryan won't address your concerns off the board in PM's, then might I suggest that you take it to the next level by c

The past several weeks people have been demanding apologies from one another for real & or perceived hurts stemming from various posts that were written in various threads.. It is my opinion that it is high time to put the past behind us & move on.. To everyone here it should be quite obvious by now that Bryan is not going to apologize any further than he already has for either dele

There aren't very many people in Hollywood that I respect to any degree, but Paul Newman was one of those that I did respect.. Here was an actor that shunned the celebrity & spotlight that comes automatically with being one of the premier actors of his time..He was a family man who was close to all of his children..Although divorced from his first wife, he had been married for 50 years to

I have not attended the Raw Spirit Festival yet..My impressions of the 2007 & 2008 festivals, which I gained from reading hundreds of posts here & on other forums, is this..Over the past 3 years this festival has morphed from one that originally celebrated raw foods that were minimally processed into one that seems destined to become a platform for companies selling highly processed raw &

To dry wet foods well in a conventional oven really requires a low-powered auxiliary fan set up outside of the oven to try & move air around the inside of the oven.. Problem is, ovens are not generally designed for what a person trained in fluid dynamics would call efficient air flow.. Convection ovens don't work all that well with the door open, & their fans are too strong once foo

If Bryan is indeed the only moderator for these forums, then it is high time that some of the other folks with long-term experience in raw foods volunteered to work as moderators..I don't know what the membership numbers are for The Living & Raw Foods forums, but IMO, these boards require more than a single moderator.. There has been more negativity, zealotry, bad language, deliberately hurtful words, strident postings, etc., here in the Off Topic section of the forum since serious discussions regarding the 2008 Presidential candidates began prior to the primary elections than the entire rest of the forums put together going back for more than a year.. I distinctly recall the day I first uttered the curse wo

I have two corded phones that I'm going to resurrect & install in the house.. The first is a powder blue push-button table model.. The second is a 1950's black Bakelite rotary dial table phone that still has the gutta-pecha & fabric cord connecting the base of the phone to the 4-prong wall jack.. I love the sound of the bells (real bells, not computer simulations) that both of th

The Nike commercial says it best: "Just DO It!!" In the case of tools for the modern day 21st Century raw vegan, I say 'Just use what you have & stop obsessing about what you don't have".. One of the photography forums that I frequent has a thread running currently where we discuss using the camera & lens (or lenses) that you own now; & to stop worrying about purc

For someone like ksandberg2002, the least expensive & least labor intensive way to achieve a raised bed garden that would have walls wide enough with a top surface that could be sat upon would probably be cast cement blocks such as are used to build foundation walls for homes.. I saw a program on TV about 2-3 years ago profiling the homes of celebrities..The one that sticks in my mind was

I've made virtually every possible mistake there is when gardening via raised beds with constructed sides.. In the future, if the land is available, I will not put constructed sides around my raised beds without an overwhelming reason to do so.. IMO. constructing a raised bed for a person that is physically challenged in some way is one of the two reasons that I would do so.. The second

Just be aware that any table-like structure that is used for gardening will have the sun & rain act upon it just like a smaller pot..In essence it is just a large container..The soil will dry out faster than it would if it was connected to the earth..Watering will be critical at times, especially if you are not able to be present during the hottest parts of the day..Not insurmountable problem

I'll be the first to agree that there is an obesity epidemic in the USA.. I'll also agree that it is primarily due to a distinct lack of real home-cooked meals containing vegetables that have been replaced with high-fat, high-starch, high-sugar, high-salt manufactured & processed foods.. The substitution of regular soda pop containing high-fructose corn syrup & diet soda pop contain

For the past year & a half I've been using a Big Berkey water filtration system..It makes my heavily chlorinated city tap water MUCH more palatable.. The charcoal filters are initially expensive, as is the filter system itself, but after a lot of online & telephonic research I decided that this would be the most cost effective solution for me.. As DZM has already stated, drinkin

DZM I don't think that Brussels Sprouts will grow very well in Florida.. All of the Brassica family of plants originated in cold climates..Kale & Brussels Sprouts especially benefit from frost to turn some of the starches in them into sugars.. Kale can & probably is grown in Florida during your winters, as long as the daytime temps don't get too high.. The rule of thumb for bo

I think that the two defining moments for me were: First, when my indeterminate Big Boy tomato plants grew 5 feet above their 6 foot tall concrete reinforcing wire cages..I finally had to cut the entire tops of the plants off with an electric hedge trimmer to direct the plant's energy into the tomatoes instead of just growing taller.. Second, was when I pulled & ate the first carrot tha

The point that I was getting around to making is this: TW has shown the positive mental attitude & stick-to-it-tive-ness twice already in his short career to substantially change his golf swing & both times come back better than when he started the swing changes..Very few pro athletes have shown the ability to change the way that the

OTOH, he is such an intelligent athlete that there is at least a slim chance that if the raw & organic foods make an appreciable difference in his health that he might explore the raw diet beyond what he currently is using it for.. This is our greatest hope..That a truly influentia

The short answer??..You don't have to.. But, and this is an incredibly important point that many beginning raw foodists ignore; a blender designed for intermittent use in the home in no way resembles in price, features, or performance the blenders sold by Vita-Mix, K-Tec, & Waring.. The blenders from these 3 manufacturers, that are constantly being discussed on raw food forums, are desi
