"A new food-labeling campaign called Smart Choices, backed by most of the nation’s largest food manufacturers, is 'designed to help shoppers easily identify smarter food and beverage choices.' "The green checkmark label that is starting to show up on store shelves will appear on hundreds of packages, including — to the surprise of many nutritionists — sugar-laden cereals lik

I'd like to ask Brian about the issue of a possible link between cyanobacteria and ALS which I have posted about elsewhere: Also: Does Brian reference any scientific data or is this just his opinion? Also, a tangent... but what's the cleanup time for a Norwalk compared to a Green Star? I'm curious. Clean up tires me. Also, besides cutting up the vegetables, what's the labor/effor

I have read that cyanobacteria is a neurotoxin. Neurotoxins are thought to be a cause of ALS. Spirulina is a form of cyanobacteria. For this post, that's all. Otherwise, yes, I just started using the GS! ...No opinion yet on GS v. Omega. They are different, and it may take a while to decide which to keep. I wish I could keep both.

Various people around me have suggested, "Now you can eat steak and drink!" But I don't like to eat (and drink) that stuff. I like eating fresh, unprocessed fruits and vegetables. I'm getting into juicing. I'm craving green smoothies and green juice. I feel sorry for people who eat toxic crap.

I've heard about that. There is little progress in the area of stem cells however that is where the current hope lies. While researchers work on that angle, I hope to stay in as good a shape as possible through diet, supplementation, and yoga!

I view juice as having a medicinal value and smoothies from the blender as food. I'm into both right now.

I have succeeded in opening the box. ha ha I've been so busy, I'm still just using the Omega. I will definitely be using the GS by the weekend though. I have a huge amount of carrots and apples waiting... I am not growing my own wheatgrass yet so will pick up some more small flats at my local health food store (a pricey way to go which is why I want to grow my own). I wish I could afford mu

My original post was a bit poorly worded. My concern is: Is spirulina a neurotoxin? There are two types of ALS, the inherited type (familial ALS or FALS) and sporadic (SALS). The Guam cases are considered sporadic. Both FALS and SALS are thought to be triggered by neurotoxins (regardless of whether the neurotoxins are made by God or man). However, you touched upon the issue of antioxidan

I have read that there is a possible link between cyanobacteria and ALS Google: cyanobacteria ALS Google: cyanobacteria spirulina This concerns me as I have ingested a lot of spirulina in the past. Any thoughts?

Good point. I guess if we can't know for sure about agave, we can't know for sure about dates either. I use dates because they are relatively inexpensive.

Green Star v Omega 8006 smackdown coming soon! ha ha ha The Green Star I ordered is due via FedEx tomorrow. I've been following its journey via the tracking number and website. I hope it arrives tomorrow! Sometimes things get slowed down...

WY, don't you use an awful lot of soil by using a bowl instead of a tray? That may be a dumb question. I'm new at this.

I use dates instead of agave. Some people say raw agave is not really raw. It is expensive so I use dates instead. I use frozen bananas as a base, then 4-6 mandarin oranges, some water and a big handful of greens. I'm partial to organic spinach, but other greens will do. Then I add a few dates. Make sure you remove the pits first.

I asked this (below) here but no one responded... soooo, if anyone has any pointers please let me know. I got a tracking number for the Green Star I ordered and it is due to arrive on the 24th. I'll spend a week comparing it to the Omega 8006 then sell one at my cost to one of my best friends. I remember first being on this forum and thinking people who owned more than one juicer at a time had t

Buy the best juicer (for your purposes) that you can afford then buy a cheap blender. I think quality is much more important with a juicer. OR even better... disconnect your cable TV service, sell your television, and buy the best of both. :-) Let us know what you decide to do and how you like whatever you purchase!

Hi Everyone, I do NOT have a green thumb! Because I travel as often as possible when not working, I don't even have houseplants -- though I wish I did because I like them. I would like to start growing my own wheatgrass and have no idea where to start. Is there a website with instructions for the overwhelmed and inexperienced that can get me started? Barring that, a good book? I have sp

Find something fun to do that gets you moving. Maybe try meetup.com and peruse the groups that welcome beginners (hiking? kayaking? adventure type groups that have people of all activity levels?)... Or yoga! There are so many different styles. You may want to try cutting back on the nuts, nut butters, oils, and protein powder and replace some of that stuff with more fresh, unprocessed fruits a

We are all here to help each other. Your first post in this thread made so much sense to me. That's so great that you are a lifetime veg*n! Besides all the chemicals/drugs they pump into animals, the vibes of that stuff... I can't even think about eating that stuff any more. I find flesh eaters operate on a completely different level than veg*ns. I'm so not there any more.

The cell phone in the blender video. Uh huh. I'd like to see someone drink that cell phone. What is the point? My garbage disposal will blend a cell phone. Why not just drive over the cell phone or apple or whatever you want mushed up and save $350? Seriously, I own a Blendtec and am happy with it. But I don't drink cell phones. John's got a good point there. I drink my smoothie's right aft

Ok, you folks have pushed me over the edge... In a good way! I just bought a Green Star 2000 but it won't be here for a while (UPS ground is only a little quicker than by mule) so I've got my Omega 8006 in the trunk of my car. I picked it up then did some major produce shopping. I'm tired from unloading and washing all the produce. When the Green Star arrives I'll sell it or the Omega to m

Thanks, everybody. I'm ok. Not much worse... but a little bit worse. It's good to be home. Being away for close to 2 months was challenging... eating cooked here and there won't kill YOU but in my situation (with ALS) I think I have to stay on the straight and narrow. For my needs, I'm looking to saturate my body with greens -- wheatgrass, green vegetables, leafy greens, but I can't say I woul

Hi John, I was wondering what you find yourself juicing on my most days? I bought an Omega 8006 just before I left for close to two months and a friend has been using it. She fell in love with it. I can get it back but sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice. (I could sell it to my friend for what I paid for it.) For mostly greens and wheatgrass, would you still recommend a the Gre

Thank you all for the love, light, healing energy, pragmatic suggestions, and positivity. I'm feeling a little better mentally. The diagnosis and the reactions of most of the people around me were difficult. Last night, I was away from home at a meditation retreat for almost two weeks now and when on the road I noticed how many fat, unhealthy looking people eat at rest area fast food restauran
