As to #1, why tell them what percentage raw you are? It only gives them something to use in an argument. As to #3, you could say, "Gee, we seem to see some things differently. At least it's great that we all like fresh fruit and vegetables! On the other stuff, it may be best to agree to disagree." Then divert their attention to another topic you know they'll get into, e.g., "

Sure, Mary Ann and Ginger are cute, but lettuce not forget that we should take thyme to compliment Sweet Marjoram. And I mint to say that Rosemary ain't bad lookin' neither. (... just a few fresh sage comments from Trive)

It is Thursday here in NZ (and will soon be Thanksgiving in the US). That always used to be a special holiday get-together in my family despite the fact that my mother never liked cooking. Growing up I thought everyone burned toast and scraped it off in the sink. Most of our pots had blackened outlines of burned rice on the bottom. TV dinners were a major food group. However, somehow Thanksgi

1goneraw, Lizard and la_veronique, Thank you for the appreciative comments. I started out making the recipe lists for myself because after five months raw I realized that this is a lifestyle that I love and will be sticking with and I wanted to be sure I wouldn't get bored with it. I am happy to know others will using it too.

What say YOU? You asked the question, but I'd be interested to read your answer too. I hope you'll reply. My best contribution is being kind to people - whether they are people I know and love or strangers I pass along the way. That's not unique, but it is both valuable and free! Perhaps my most unique contribution is my art. Thanks for asking!

Forget about expensive equipment. You don't have to have it. I, too, only have a blender and food processsor, but no dehydrator or juicer. Maybe someday I'll get them, but for months it's been working out fine for me without them. As to getting fruits and vegetables cheaply, seek out a local farmer's market for bargains. Your town might have a market that sells only fruit and vegetables; oft

As to raisins (which are just dehydrated grapes), it depends on how you feel about eating dehydrated foods. Some dried fruits are dehydrated at temperatures that destroy enzymes, and that's why people dehydrate their own at lower temperatures at home. Others prefer grapes in their whole, fresh, natural form and don't eat any dehydrated foods at all. Another consideration is you may have discom

Hello, Di, To help with digestion (reducing gas) you can look into food-combining and mono-eating. A couple of sites to look into are www.raw-food-living.com and www.rawfoodexplained.com (Lessons 22&23). The info on food-combining can look complicated. What I do is eat fruit separately from other foods or wait a half an hour before eating other veggies. (An exception is that I som

I have never had a medical diagnosis for it, but all my life I have had allergic reactions to certain foods. The ridges on the roof of my mouth get swollen and excrutiatingly tender, even to the point of skin peeling off. Well, that used to happen, I haven't had a reaction since I started eating raw food! If you have burning mouth syndrome, I hope raw food gives you relief soon.

Like you, I started a raw food diet for health reasons. For me it was acid reflux (GERD), not colitis. It took several months for me to get healthy, but I am off of all medication, will not need surgery (as I had been told by two different doctors), and am feeling great. I am writing this to let you know that there are people here who understand your feelings of bewilderment, nervousness and em

It's not just socially accepted; it's socially expected! Isn't it strange that it feels radical to do something so natural? I just imagined us all playing roles in a movie where we are members of a global French Resistance-like group - - a clandestine, underground society of raw food people secretly trying to change our lives and the lives of others for a better world. Hmmm...

It sounds like the "non-raw dairy stuff" and "really bad cooked stuff" are the culprits, so your plan of 3 weeks of fruit + greens + veggies is smart. I hope it is going well for you. I don't like paying attention to calories either. I did it for a while to be sure that my fat intake was around 10%, but rarely check it now. I no longer use olive oil. I still get about

I am living in Mango Land and loving it. The price of mangoes has plummeted to one third of the usual cost and I have been taking full advantage. Does anyone know the Guinness Book of Records for the most mangoes eaten in one day? Hee hee... just kidding. It has been delicious fun, though.

Here are LOTS of suggestions for raw fillings to wrap in lettuce or spinach leaves. Many of the vegetable-based ones can be used as a stuffing for other vegetables (e.g., on yellow bell pepper slices, in mushroom caps, in snow pea pods, on celery ribs, in hollowed cherry tomatoes, on squash or zucchini rounds). For a stuffing, just use tahini or something else to make the ingredients hold toget

This is the first day in a long time that I have had acid reflux symptoms. Darn it. I used tumeric in something I made and it immediately made me cough and get a sore throat. I tell ya - acid reflux really keeps me honest on raw food. (Talk about yer blessing in disguise!)

My husband and I emigrated from the US to New Zealand 10 years ago and absolutely love it here. The climate and culture were the two main reasons for our choice. We know several people who emigrated from South Africa to NZ. All have been here for many years. Where I live in the Bay of Plenty on the North Island, the climate is very mild - never really hot (never in the 90's Farenheit) and ne

I find someone to talk with about it. I write about it in a private journal. I go for a hike on a trail with tall trees. If those fail, I eat nuts and dried fruit. Hope you're having a good day today.

Jodi, Will do that. Last night we had guests staying overnight. One, a relative and long-time vegetarian, asked to make a gourmet raw dish for supper, knowing how much I used to love cooking fancy things and wanting to try something raw that she hadn't had before. It is so wonderful to have her loving support. We made raw lasagna. Zucchini ribbons as the pasta. Tomato and sundried tom

I wouldn't think it's the greens in the smoothie that you are reacting to, unless they cause that reaction in salads, etc. too. So, maybe it's just time for some variety in your green smoothie. You could try replacing orange juice with a different citrus fruit juice like tangerine or grapefruit juice. However, it may be that your body has had enough of what it needs from citrus for a while.
