Thanks, Mona. Good luck with your copying and conversions. I have done that with a couple of books and it's a good idea. Funny, though, the more I make raw things, the more creative of an "uncook" I am becoming. I'm now seriously into mixing up veggie pate' concoctions. They almost always taste great, but who knows what the proportions or spices are? I sure don't! Sometimes it'

The title of this entry is: "The Raw Truth." The absurdity of me having so many cookbooks has gotten me to wondering. How can I have changed so radically in what I believe? I am amazed that such a fundamental change happened so quickly. How did the human species change from eating a natural diet to thinking that over-processed, nutrient-stripped, chemical-laden, cooked stuff is &q

I cut off the dried out parts of a knob of raw ginger. Maybe others peel it, but I don't. Then I grate it on the fine holes on a hand-held grater. One drink with raw ginger that I make often is equal amounts of water and orange juice, an apple, a piece of ginger (grated it's about a tablespoon), a handful of mixed lettuce greens, and a squeeze of lemon juice. It's refreshing and filling.

Yep. It's me again with a few more: Today I'm really loving how gorgeous raw food is! So many luscious colours! So many interesting textures... Smooth, rumpled, prickly, fuzzy, sticky and soft... Just look at all of the complex geometric designs and patterns. I mean, have you ever really stared at a pineapple? What a marvel of nature! Then there's the smell... of a... ripe... peach...

This site has persimmon pudding which is blending persimmon and banana: You can use seeds from scraping the inside of a vanilla bean instead of using extract. A site that has persimmon pie is www.raw-food-health.net/PersimmonPie.html It has nice colour photos. Here's a drink: I don't know how the recipes are, though, because I never buy persimmons. If you find a good one, please le

Tofu is cooked. You can search on this site for what people have written about soy. As to what to eat, have you read the FAQs and recipes on this site? There are LOTS of raw recipes on places like allrawrecipes.com and goneraw.com. Besides the FAQs here, you can check out www.rawfoodforum.com, www.rawfoodexplained.com, www.rawschool.com/basics.htm, www.rawforlife.co.uk, and thebestofraw

There are others here with much more knowledge about raw foods than I have, but it looks to me like you have a good variety which covers a lot of nutrition-wise. The longer I eat raw foods, the less I want strong spices. I have eliminated hot chilis, but still use dashes of curry and cumin. I have never tried almond milk, but since I am avoiding nuts until I get to my desired weight, I

I use frozen blueberries (just frozen - no added anything) a lot. Although fresh is best, sometimes fruits in stores can have been there a long time and have lost nutrients. I figure it's better to get variety. As to frozen blueberries, I often make a sorbet by blending them with a banana. De-lish! I find that I have to avoid nuts and really limit seeds and avocado for weight loss. (Of co

Yep, my favorite raw vegan is a cutie. I just came in from luring him with a carrot out of the far paddock where he and his brother had escaped to. (A visiting child left a gate open.) The donkeys love being loose, but fortunately it's easy to catch them because they love carrots more! Hurrah for raw food! You are right about using cookbooks for inspiration. I just went through The Joy of

A chicken went into a library, walked up to the librarian and said, "Book! Book!" The librarian was so surprised that she gave it two books and watched it place a book under each wing and leave the library. Just a few minutes later it came back, dropped the books in the return bin, walked up to the librarian and said, "Book! Book!" Again, the librarian gave it two books and

For me it has been drastic, but I had serious acid reflux (GERD), was on prescription medication and was told I would need surgery (fundoplication, where the upper part of the stomach is wrapped around the esophagus - yuck). I went all raw and after a few months got to the point where I was no longer in pain and stopped taking meds. It was iffy for a while there, but I am doing great now.

There is soooo much more that I love... I hope you don't mind me adding a few extras.... I love that clean-up is so easy. I love having meals with JUST ONE ingredient! (mono eating) I love having dessert as my entire meal!!! How great is it to eat a bowlful of sorbet (made from bananas and frozen blueberries) or another guilt-free dessert as dinner? I love losing weight while eatin

I have learned a few things hanging out at farmer's markets, farm stands and the produce section of grocery stores. So, here are a few tips to add to what's been written above: With many fruits, it just takes experience to find the right place between the extremes of too firm (not ripe) and too soft (overripe or bruised). What's frustrating is that every now and then a fruit like a peach or n

On the GERD/acid reflux front... The major battles have been fought an won. I know I will not need surgery (as I was told I would by doctors). I know I will not have to take prescription medication for the rest of my life (as I was told I would by doctors). And I know how to control it with a healthy raw diet (about which I have not told doctors)! That leaves just a very mild symptom to

This is crazy. I have 247 cookbooks... and not one of them is for raw food!!! Although I sometimes use them for inspiration for making something raw, now I find that I have become a confident raw (un)cook. I love becoming a mad chef wielding a chef knife and chopping like a pro. You should hear me mince! I used to use my mixer, stove, microwave and oven often. Boy, has that changed. I stil

On another thread RORRIRAW added a note about eating raw food being an almost sacred experience and about finding meals to be "deeply satisfying in a way I have never known before." That is true for me too. One thing I love about raw foods is how vivid they taste. Yesterday, I made a blended salad and went back to the food processor to scrape every bit that I had left behind! La Veronique, You're not the only one. I agree with you that it is frustrating to almost always hear negative generalizations about society - especially when they falsely accuse me! Hearing positive comments would probably be more motivating to people to get them to eat right, exercise, recycle, etc., than fatalistic criticism. The expression, "You catch more flies with honey than w

Hi, Mona Thanks for your kind comments. When I make something really yummy, I always give some to John. He eats a healthy cooked diet, so I'm not worried about him, but I love it when he likes raw things I make. Does your husband like vinaigrette dressings? They are raw and taste wonderful. I like one from the Herb Farm cookbook. The raw baba ganouj recipe you requested follows: Baba G

Hi, Gurkan 82, There are lots of recipes on the Living and Raw foods site. You get to it from the first page. There are also LOTS of other sites with recipes. I just compiled my own versions of ones that had low amounts of nuts and seeds for my own use. Some sites have answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that you may want to read. Here is a list of some sites with information

Hi, Gurkan82, The 80/10/10 Diet is explained in a book by that name. The author is Dr. Douglas Graham. The diet is based on limiting your daily input of fat to 10% and protein to 10% of your daily food intake. I haven't read the book, but I do keep my fat and proteins around that amount to lose a bit more weight and for other health reasons. To do that I use a nutrition site, fitday.com ,

It's great that even with cravings you are still staying raw. So, first congratulate yourself for that! When I first started all raw, I ate whatever I wanted (as long as it was raw), but I soon came to a point where I became concerned about my choices too. That's a good sign because it shows readiness to make an adjustment. First I decreased nuts which led to a lot of fruit and dried fruit.

What a powerful choice you have made: "to create the life-profile you want." Here's cheering you on in your decision. Hip hip, hooray!!! As to your comment... -You can't kick ass and have both feet on the ground at the same time.- ... that is not true for my little buddy, Fernando, in the photo. When he "kicks ass," his front two feet stay on the ground. Unfortun
