OHMIGOSH! When I looked to see the new posting on my thread, there was Fernando's baby picture! Seeing it always makes me smile. THANK YOU SO MUCH, Jodi, for figuring that out for me. It was kind of you to have mercy on my struggle and take the time to do that for me. Your banana eating buddist picture was what inspired me to try. It brings a smile to my face as well. Fernando was only thre

Roughing up the nail is not good because it makes little crevices for fungus to hide and hold moisture. Be sure to use fresh, clean socks; don't rewear socks without washing. Be sure your toes are dried and aired well before putting on socks and shoes. If your shoes aren't open-toed, it is good to wear socks. Socks with high cotton content and low synthetic content absorb perspiration better.

I think obesity is caused by eating too much of the wrong things (i.e., cooked foods, refined sugar, fats, etc.). Now I eat much more in terms of volume than I did when I ate cooked foods, but I weigh less. Although I have never been obese, I have been overweight at times - actually, most of the time. Losing weight was always a struggle because I felt deprived when I ate Lean Cuisine or We

Instead of finding it "really hard," I have found it to be just the opposite - really easy. I, too, thought it would be hard and scary until I tried it and realized how simple and easy it actually is. Whereas when I ate cooked food, I used to feel guilty about my food choices or how large a serving I took, now I eat as much raw food as I want and don't gain weight. That's liberating

There are so many different shapes of pasta and even though they all have the same ingredients, somehow the different shapes taste different! Well, at least that's what I remember from when I used to eat pasta, ha! Well, I'm a visual person and like my food to look appealing. Here are some ways to cut and fill vegetables and fruits differently: Rounds: Slice chunky rounds from a cucumber,

Popeye's got nuthin'on me! Spinach was on sale and I took advantage of it. Breakfast was a green smoothie with baby spinach. Lunch was spinach soup (blended spinach, zucchini, tomato, garlic, onion, Italian spices, salt, corn)... yum! And this afternoon I had a green lemonade with - you guessed it - more baby spinach! I'm not sure what's for dinner, but let's just say that the remaining

Like you, I'm in this for health reasons. Weight loss has been a great side benefit. I feel better not eating any nuts and I eat just one avocado a week. I get enough protein from spinach and greens (and other stuff). Have you tried entering what you eat each day on fitday.com ? It will show you graphically how much protein, fat and nutrients you are getting. Try to keep your fat under 10%

Here's an adventure... or rather a mis-adventure. When I first started eating raw food, I felt so great that I wanted my husband to experience what I was experiencing. He liked almost everything I made for him. (Yes, our relationship is traditional in that sense: I do the cooking and he takes out the trash. It works for us.) Anyway, I don't want to eat nuts to keep my percentage of fat low,

Hello, meshelly129, WELCOME! I know what you mean about giving up cooking. I have always enjoyed cooking. I finally built a house with the kitchen of my dreams and then gave up it up for raw food! Well, that's not exactly true. I still cook some things for him and some day we might open our house as a bed and breakfast. I've only been eating raw foods for about 4 months now, but to ge

My "must have everyday" foods seem to be more like cravings for a certain food everyday until I don't crave it any more. For two months I had to have bananas everyday. Now I'm not interested. Then for a couple of weeks it was mangoes. Now it's a green drink with lettuce, ginger, water, orange juice and an apple in it. Each time I think I'll eat this every day for the rest of my life!

946. Re: GERD
I have recently started writing in the Raw Diary - Personal Experiences Forum under the heading: "Adventures in the Raw Food World," but realized that people who have GERD symptoms might only look for information here. So I decided to duplicate some of what I wrote in my diary entry here. These are some of my learnings so far: 1) I keep oil/fats intake very low. During my first

I wasn’t going to write until a full month passed, but decided to sooner because there's a lot I didn't say in my first entry things are going so well with me. For over a year I struggled with going to different doctors and trying different prescriptions to get relief from acid reflux. Me! What a surprise! I rarely even get a cold. After several different GPs and two specialists and af

Here are a few raw soup recipes. I think the seasonings qualify as raw, but I'm still learning and don't mind being corrected if they don't. Carrot Soup Blend 1c shredded carrots, 1 apple, 1 celery, parsley, cumin, and a pressed garlic clove with carrot juice (or water or fresh tomato juice). Add tahini or nut butter to make it creamy, if desired. Garnish with parsley. Vege Chili Blend

Yellow squash isn't available where I live, but courgette (zucchini) is and they are similar. I like slice one into rounds and top each slice with a sauce, like a blend of tomato and sun-dried tomatoes with seasonings, but a vege pate' would be good too. It's like having hors d'ouvres (however the heck that is spelled)! I also like to cut a zucchini into long, thin matchstick size pieces to s

Hey, TheNewGuy, I visit this site often because I am doing it alone. Thank you all for being here! Fortunately, my wonderful, loving husband is supportive in that he listens to me talk about raw foods and tries things I make. However, saying there hasn't been much support from other people is an understatement. When I told one sister, you'd think I'd said, "I see dead people!" Aft

Just because you got a blast of negativity, doesn't mean it was the wrong thing to do or that you should slink away. You've done a service by exposing people to alternative ideas, even if they choose to pooh pooh it. It just doesn't feel that way right now, but who knows? At some point it may make a real difference in someone's life. Finding out about raw food surely made a difference in mine! T

Okay, I have been hanging around this forum reading, learning, trying, changing... and even though I have only written a few replies to what others have written, now I feel drawn to write about my own raw food adventures. For decades I have eaten what many people would consider a healthy diet: no red meat, lots of fruits and veges, chicken and fish occasionally, no alcohol, nutritional supplem

How lovely! Like you I find peace in nature. Every day I walk through a stand of old growth trees in a reserve adjacent to where I live. I feel privileged to be in that space. Walking along the trail, I listen for native birds and notice changes - like more water flowing in the stream or flowers on the path blown down by the wind that came through the night before. On the path I feel myself

Ditto on the farmer's markets and fruit on sale. Even though bananas are not expensive, I buy the ones on sale because we eat them so quickly that they don't have time to bruise or turn brown. I shop often - almost daily - and frequently find fruit and vege on special. I also shop at an independent fresh market that only sells fresh fruits and veges because many of their prices are lower than

As to "what changes/benefits you are realizing from this diet," it's the obvious one of weight loss, although that was a secondary benefit. I found that when I reduced nuts, seeds, and avocados to 10% of my dietary fat, I also reduced my symptoms of acid reflux. I don't claim to have cured my GERD completely, but when I eat meals with high fat content (a lot of nuts or dairy) or high
