Nettles are great for the bones, teeth and hair because of the silica -- which is transformed by the body into calcium. That is my understanding anyhow.

Green smoothies help me better than just about anything -- 2 heads of leafy greens + fruit + water or fruit juice in the blender. (I avoid bananas nowadays and lots of berries always seem to do really well with me.)

Jaffe Brothers has great prices on some things (such as unhulled sesame seeds), www.sunorganic.com has better prices on some things (such as almonds).

The 9-tray I would get only if I had 4 more raw foodists to "uncook" for. The 5-tray is double the yield of the 4-tray and like another poster said, the 9-tray is much noisier (and also uses more electricity).

Raw eating has helped me to live a more constructive lifestyle by realizing that taking care of my own body in a REAL way is an important way to take care of myself and ensure that I can live my elder years as a productive and active person rather than as an invalid. In addition, it has punctuated for me what a Death Culture we live in. It is so bizarre to go to a big grocery store and realize

Thanks, Ferg. I'm moving in that direction now! I know that the drink will be a hundred times more healing without the pasteurized juice. I used half as much juice today, and more apples. Yesterday I used arugula mostly for the greens. Man, I love that stuff, even been craving it. With kale and such I don't care for the taste as much, but with arugula I just looooooove its flavor. I've finally

I really don't feel good about using pasteurized juice. It's just the only kind I can afford right now.

P.S. Today I got turnip greens. I like to buy whatever is the best deal by the pound. Sometimes I get mustard greens too, but they have a very strong and distinctive flavor I'm just not always in the mood for.

When I used to eat oat groats I would grind them to a cream consistency after soaking overnight back when I had a grinder. Maybe you could do something similar? I think that makes them easier to digest...

I've been starting to use some packaged juice (Dole 100%) for now. But yes, apples and bananas are a definite staple in my green smoothies! Using the Dole juice tends to make the smoothies a little too sweet, which has worked out perfectly since I just bought a truckload (exaggerating) of fresh cranberries to use in green drink. They are so tart that they set off the sweetness very well -- and ca

Thanks for the feedback! I'm working on getting back to grinding flax seeds each morning and drinking them with some juice or water. So much cheaper and can't beat the freshness quotient.

My plight very much -- hard to lose weight! If I live on almost nothing but green smoothies (a la Victoria Boutenko) I can lose weight though! I think it is because the green drinks cleanse me while nourishing me without ever getting stuck inside. For me, everything wants to take up permanent resident in my bod!

A good friend of mine who had heart surgery 15 years ago has convinced me to stop adding oil -- any kind of oil -- to recipes. I'm wondering, when I make a raw recipe from directions that call for 1 T. or more of oil what could be a good substitute. Just water you think?

I had a health crisis back in June -- combination of edema (which exacerbated my carpal tunnel syndrome) and angina. It was REALLY scary and stressful. I could not type (hands too swollen and cramped up) and could not walk without great pain. I started living on green smoothies (a la Victoria Boutenko) almost exclusively. Within 4-6 weeks all chest pains were gone and then it took another month o
