I think the food grade is important even just for brushing teeth, because things get into the body through so many of the cells. It costs more but if you are only brushing your teeth with it then the cost in the long run is still infintesimal really. I brush my teeth with hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and Celtic sea salt.

Actually it is not good for pregnant women to cook in hot water for long at all. Best stay out of water over 118 degrees with a little carrot or tomato in the bloomer.

I live just a block away from where I can get water filtered by reverse osmosis for 25 cents a gallon (R.O. water being some of the most fluoride-free available), but when I can I will also purchase a Berkey water filter plus the PF2 filter one must add to it in order to be able to filter out 95% of the fluoride. I really like the Berkey water filter design, although it comes only in plastic or s

Do you have a dehydrator? Eggplant slices make for great raw pizza crusts! The butternut squash I have seen raw recipes for -- esp. for soups I think. Do you have a good blender where you can put peeled and chopped squash in it and then add some pure water and maybe a little tahini or other nut butter plus some Celtic sea salt and a few herbs? The potatoes are the hardest. I would like to k

Just make sure it also filters the fluoride (which many water filters do not)!

Wow, first I read about kelp noodles and now this. I can't wait to try! (I read that "Sea Tangle" is one of the few, if not the only, seller(s) of truly RAW kelp noodles.) I think they have to be soaked for at least 30 minutes or so before they get really soft, and apparently the outside skin of the kelp has been removed so that they are more like a clear cellophane noodle!

One recipe I like is (this makes about 1/2 gallon): 3 large or 4 medium bananas 1 apple (your choice of type) 2 pears 1 bunch greens (spinach, arugula, dandelion, romaine, etc., etc.) 1 T. raw pumpkin seeds (for the zinc) 1 T. raw sunflower seeds (for the good omegas etc.) 1/4 cup frozen organic blueberries (for the flavor and the health benefits) It's really yum.

Anyone have an opinion on that stuff that use on mung bean sprouts, supposedly to make them longer? One friend told me it is a biological toxin and that I should avoid commercial mung bean sprouts for that reason. Actually I prefer to sprout my own anyhow so I know what kind of water went in it, but just wanted to hear what anyone has to say about the stuff they put on the mung beans.

I'm just now finally getting serious about trying out all the sprouts, but have to admit that I have been eschewing most beans for the past many years -- even the sprouted ones. Now I want to try them -- like lentil sprouts and aduki sprouts and green pea sprouts. I would like to know if anyone thinks that we would be better off abstaining from the lentils or adukis and if so why? Thanks

I don't drink alcohol much because (1) I know it converts to sugar and is bad for my sugar levels as well as my liver, (2) I know too many "bad" alcoholics and want to be the person at the party (or wherever) that doesn't drink, in solidarity with anyone who actually finds it difficult to abstain, and (3) it costs too much. I could also now add (4) which is that I noticed the last few t

I know. It gets kinda scary at times. Then I remember that the forces for the Good SHALL prevail. And I really believe that. Meanwhile, I do all I can to make sure that what I am eating today is not irradiated or messed with in bad ways -- and of course eating LOCALLY GROWN produce is not only the best way to eat but the best way to assure yourself that you really do know what did or did not g

There is a very large population of raw foodists in Boulder! I recommend you get hold of Brigette Mars. Just Google her name and you should be able to find her website. She knows lots of raw Boulder people. (I used to live there years ago but visited there recently and went to a rawluck there.)

I would like to grow food indoors too! I'm moving to a small efficiency with only one window and it is a north window! However, this being Central Texas, that will save me money on air conditioning so I won't complain, especially since the view is kind of nice too. I was thinking about getting a "Grow-It" light with a standup fixture. Does anyone know if that is the way to go and

I just found out something really wonderful at a raw food prep class I went to the other night: The "Big Mouth" Food Processor by Hamilton Beach is as good and in some ways actually BETTER than a $250 Cuisinart or KitchenAide! It's only $50-$75 and you can get them on Amazon.com. I used it in the class and it really works great and is 11-cup or 14-cup capacity. Awesome!

There are different approaches to raw diet, and you'll need to decide what you want to do. Then if it doesn't work out, you can switch to another approach. Seems to me the main approaches, each a bit different, are in Doug Graham's book with the 80-10-10 and/or Dr. Gabriel Cousens book, Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine and/or David Wolfe's book, The Sunfood Diet Success System

My experience is that I can easily live with someone who is very health conscious about what they eat, but it's soooo hard when they are "typical" eaters. I have also discovered that the kind of consciousness it takes to be someone who is really into being very careful about what they eat is the only kind of person that is truly compatible with me (in the sense of a romantic partner). I have the 6" one and am amazed how big it is. I suppose if you have no problem with the weight of the thing and you are making bulk amounts in it like that it would be okay to get the 9", but I wonder if you really want it that big. For one thing, the pestle that comes with the 6" mortar is already quite big and heavy. I would imagine each successive size up has an equally larger

There's a problem with some goji berries imported from China and Tibet -- in that they have dye added and such. I got some from Tibet off eBay and just from dropping some on my bedsheets they left dye marks. The only brand I really trust is Sunfood.com (formerly Nature's First Law) because I know that David Wolfe goes through a lot of extra pains to make sure that what he's getting from China is

I don't see why not. I just got some already-ground organic oat bran today (Bob's Red Mill brand off Amazon.com) and just tried it for the first time about an hour ago and just love it. I just added water and a little Yukon (sp) syrup and just love it. I tend to avoid grains, but so many seem to do well with the raw oats and I'm going to check this out and see if it can work for me.

I am so disappointed that there is no support for those with candida and needing to deal with it on this board. Right now Cousens' diet is my only hope. It is very demoralizing to read him slammed like this. Carbs and sugars have been really hurting me and I am going to give his phases of diets a try. With too much sweet fruit I am in terrible pain, especially my feet.

Last night I had a dream that two government agents came to my home to investigate a call they had gotten saying that I was in possession of at least one bottle of vitamin B3 (niacin). You know, usually you can wake up from a nightmare and breathe a sigh of relief and say, "Oh, it was just a dream!" However I was waking up on April 15, 2007 and the fact is that the FDA is trying once ag
