You can get whole oat groats and sprout them. My grocer sells them in bulk for cheap.

So why are polynesians historically so fat? This is marketing mishmash. Flavonoids and other compounds in fruits and vegetables also strengthen the immune system. Polyphenols are also available in other fruits and vegetables that provide more micronutrients per kcal than coconut. I use coconut, too. A little bit.

I don't think so. No fatty acid requirements have been identified beyond the essential ones (linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid), and coconut has very little to none of either of those. Think about this. Suppose you have a 1800 kcal budget for body maintenance. Suppose you devote 10% of those kcals to coconut oil. Coconut oil has very little in the way of vitamins and minerals. It is ba

Both can be present. But usually there is much more protein present compared to free amino acids. Proteins are long repeating chains of amino acids. (interesting part about denaturing: this means "raw" protein powders such as hemp and rice are not really raw but most people already knew that) Single amino: free amino acid short chain: peptide longer chain: polypeptid

Thanks to all for your stories. I, too, lost my mother to cancer a long time ago. My dad, who is a physician, chose the most aggressive treatments for her. Neither I nor he would opt for the same course of treatment, it was truly dreadful. But he loved her and wanted to keep her around for as long as possible and he did what he thought best at the time. Prevention is way better than "c

I can see why they would caution against too much fruit or only fruit, it would be very difficult to meet one's vitamin, mineral, amino acid, and fatty acid needs on such a diet for most people, it might also lead to too much sugar in substrates not ideal for our GI tracts. Also there can be therapeutic value for some people in limiting them. But I would also caution against a permanent and

1. Use the pantry and nutrient search tools at nutritiondata.com and make better choices or supplement for what you lack. Human animals have used their brains to figure out that b12 is from bacteria and grazing animals get theirs from bacteria. You don't have to kill or use an animal (an indirect source of b12) to get it because you can take it directly in supplemental form. 2. I doubt it woul

Yes, I have and it does seem to me a terrible waste. Better to shred them along with carrots and whatever and make a raw slaw.

I think they taste loads better when chopped instead of blended in a smoothie or juiced. I want to *eat* my veggies rather than drink them. Some people think we don't absorb anthing much from eating them in salads but a recent study did verify that significant increases in plasma levels of key nutrients does occur after salad eating. But one probably has even greater uptake with blendi

I think it would be more prudent to get a job there, even if it's only at a very low level such as washing dishes. That way you could check out the place and the vibe and get paid while doing so. If you really like it, then you can make the big financial committment. I think Cousens does a lot of great work. But he also does a lot of shifty things, like selling tachyons, expensive supplements,

Duh! These researchers found more protection from vegetables (especially leaves) than fruits. There was significant protection from only 2.8 servings of vegetables per day. I don't think they separated cooked from raw, however. I didn't read the study yet (published in the Journal Neurology), it isn't even indexed in medline yet, too new, but if I get a chance to read it I will provide so

1. You can use nutrient search tools and a nutrient calculator online to be sure you aren't missing anything, if you are, supplement for the things in which your diet is weak or nonexistent (b12, d2). Some plant based diets are consistently weak in zinc also. RDAs are not perfect but they are pretty consistent from country to country where expected background diets are different except for the ca

My dad is in North Florida. He is a fig freak, I think he has over 40 varieties, probably everything known that can grow there. He is also heavily into muscadines and citrus. He has to baby the citrus, though. He also has pears, apples, persimmons, and loquats. I can't grow any of that stuff in my yard. It is too shady. I will have to move if I want to eat a lot off my land.

I can't remember what it was, exactly, that inspired me to make a very large fraction of my diet raw (I am still not 100%, but most days in the 80%-90% range). I started out from an only slightly unorthodox nutritional standpoint: cooked vegetarian (at 27. I am now 43). At the time when my interest was growing in the nutrient contents of individual foods, I tended to focus on iron and calcium

Lately, an apple an orange a cucumber a tomato 1/2 cup grapes 1/2 cup strawberries, blackberries, or a mix. Sometimes, pineapple, peaches, whatever is in season or cheap. It varies. My veggies also make a contribution to my fructose intake. To be honest, if taste were the only factor, I'd rather have more fruit than what I have now. I could live on fruit salad with a creamy nut/

Food restriction is the most effective modulator of oxidative stress and it is believed that a reduction in caloric intake per se is responsible for the reduced generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by mitochondria. Hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) generation and oxygen consumption (O(2)) by skeletal muscle mitochondria were determined in a peculiar strain of rats (Lou/C) characterized by a

1) How do I go about eating grains? Sprout them. Rye, wheat, oat groats, etc. will sprout. Brown rice will not. But I have no taste for them, they are not a part of my diet. You could make grain milks from your sprouted grains. Tom Billings has a writing somewhere with details. 2) What about potatoes? I have a yam in my fridge which I peeled and sliced and steamed very lightly, just to make

All they can do is pull the skin tight to make it look a little less worse. Usually they have caffeine or related compounds as actives. Cellulite is pretty natural. Almost every female has it. But if you want to limit yours, you'll have

Here is a review paper with opinion on the problems of high fructose corn syrup in the diet. The author argues that eating whole fruit isn't a problem because typical amounts of fructose in fruit consumed are much lower due to small amounts present in fruit (contrasted with prepared sweets), and that the fiber in the fruit slows down uptake and does not overwhelm the intestinal and hepatic sy
