I respectfully disagree! Selenes, I say, go for it. The raw food diet might just turn your whole life around. Or it might not. There's no way to know unless you give it a shot. The worst that could happen is that you educate yourself about it, it doesn't work for you, and you go another route. The fact that you're aware of the problem and are actively looking for a solution is a good in

Yeah, and sometimes I like the recipes, but they'll be too rich for me to eat more than a couple of bites. I ate enough of that cheesecake now that I'm counting on the rest of the household to finish it off so I don't have to chuck it. It's really good, don't get me wrong, but I have this compulsive eating pattern where I feel the need to eat a particularly delicious item nonstop until it doesn'

Hi Smile, Do they taste sweet? Maybe a little. But the whole thing together doesn't taste sweet. The tacos can be put together right before serving, and they hold their shape beautifully. The beans go on the tortillas, then top the beans with guacamole and fold them into the taco shape. I served them for a dinner party last night with all cooked people, and everyone loved them. I also se

I think the unconsious mind communicates to the consious mind through dreams. I like to think the wall between my consious and unconsious is less solid now that I'm raw, and that this makes dreams less necessary for information exchange between the two.

People have explained this to me for years, and I've seen at least two other demonstrations, but this was by far the simplest, and most memorable way I've seen. In fact, there's a whole, long complicated thread here at this site on opening them. Thank you so much. I think I can actually do it now.

Oh yeah, you asked if the water to soak the nuts has to be distilled. No, usually people just use purified. Distilled water is kind of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it doesn't have anything bad in it, so it won't contribute to toxins in your body. If your detoxing, it's useful because it absorbs the toxins as it goes through your system. On the other hand, its absorbtion is non-

Imfree, Your posts are such a joy to read, I'll look forward to your next thread. I think one day you'll write a very good book. The nuts generally get soaked overnight, but it doesn't really take all that long for the growth-inhibiting enzyme to come off. A couple of hours will take most of it away. There are charts that tell you how long to soak them in order to sprout them, like this o

Funny, I happen to be making this right now. Seeds are soaking as I write. 1 1/2 c sunflower seeds, soaked for 2 hours or more 1 c sun-dried tomatoes, soaked for 1 hour or more 1 T miso 2 tsp. ground cumin 2 tsp. ancho chili powder (I just use regular) 2 tsp. ground coriander 1 tsp. cayenne pepper 2 T olive oil 1 tsp. agave nectar 1 tsp. sea salt 6 T filtered water 1/2 to 1 jalapen

Really? No one? Okay, what about this: In a year, before school starts, we celebrate on a Dominican beach? We could have our own little raw convention, only without paid speakers or entertainers, so it wouldn't cost no $500. It'd just be the off-season prices of airfare and room, and the food that we prepare and share in front of each others' bungalows. The speakers could be us. We c

Thanks, Suncloud. Still grossed out, but thanks. Pampam, way cool that you're in Graham! I'm only here for another week and a half, but a meetup would be great! My email's shown in my user profile (just click on my username). Yes, there's a couple of groups up here. We've got the Seattle Raw Food Meetup Group, which meets this comming Sunday at our one and only raw food restaurant, Chac

Hey Suncloud, bust in any time. By the way, the Dominican Republic (where I live most of the year) has awesome bananas, too. I can't even eat these ones I get here in Seattle anymore. I have to blender them, because eating them straight makes me feel like I'm going to choke. What do they do to them to get them to stay so yellow for so long, anyway? Nevermind, I don't think I want to know.

Hi Imfree, What a wonderful username. From the sound of things, you really are. You asked whether it's bad not to heed all the food combining advice. It's okay if you keep on enjoying those fun combinations. It's fine to ignore food combining practices until you think you would like to improve your digestion. This often happens later, after you've been raw for a while, because some (not a

Yes, they're all safe. Pumpkin's not very fun to eat raw, yams are tastier, and so are beets.

Hi azrael, You were wondering why your body has the cravings. It could be that it wants minerals. If you think this may be the case, check out green smoothies. Getting more of what your body needs by including greens in your smoothies (or by trying new green smoothie recipes) might zap those cravings in a few days, and they are VERY filling. For sweet green smoothies, just put a couple o

And the answer is...very carefully. I sometimes have to lock the door, turn out the lights, and lie very still during a break. My HSP master teacher taught me to do this when I student

Patty, you guys have teachers assitants in 3rd grade? What kind of dream school is that? Islandgirl, again, wow. That Ph.D sounds awesome. I live in the DR and visit Seattle over summer and winter holidays. It's way easy to be raw there, although it took some shifts in thinking. I mean, not having Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, I had to get more practical and focus on actual foods, rat
