Jonesy, You're jonsing for nuts for a reason. (Sorry, the pun was too tantalizing.) But seriously, you aren't addicted to nuts. While you're in transition, your body needs a lot of them for the extra protein. Your body will want them less as it learns to assimilate the amino acids in vegetables and fruits by growing more hydrochloric acid. (BTW, don't force hydrochloric acid into your bod

Hi Siracusa, Want a cheap, powerful blender? I got The Chopper online, and it's been great. It also has a food processor attachment, equally useful. If you want to go raw w/out the dizziness, try having plenty of nuts with every meal. Never have fruit w/out nuts. (Even better, put both oil (coconut or sesame taste good) on fruit w/nuts and seeds.) When I was transitioning I ate almonds

Melgerl, NO WAY! Don't you dare cut back on anything you're enjoying. You can eat all the fat you want and those pounds will still melt off effortlessly. Don't be in a hurry to lose weight, because within a year your family will be begging you to eat "real food" because you'll be so thin they'll think you're becoming anoexic. (My mom was so worried about me, she kept comparing me

Hi Fuzzysox, You got some good advice. I'm going to respond to the part about relatives and unsupportive friends. It's true what David said about boundaries, they aren't respected by people who feel entitled by genes or history to have a hand at running your life. When you aren't supported on this or any issue that is close to your heart, distance yourself emotionally. Don't defend yoursel

Hi Melygerl, WELCOME! You are SO not going to be sorry. I'll be interested to see what other say, but here's my advice: I recommend that you relax as much as you can and look at going raw as a long-term project. Don't worry about doing everything right away. Going cold turkey is for the healthy and strong; otherwise, it's best to go slowly. It will take 2 to 3 years for you to see and

Hi SkyBlue, Could you give us a little more information? Is your pernicious anemia due to absence of intrinsic factor? If so, do you have an autoimmune disorder? If not, does your doctor know what is obstructing the iron/vit. B-12 absorbtion? How long did you take the vitamin B-12 suppliment, in what form and how often? (Did you get the daily shots?) Are you sure your anemia had to do with i

Go RawForHealth! (Pun intended) You're doing the right thing. But every time you dispair and go for junk, see if it helps picture in your mind exactly what will happen in your body if it goes down your gullet: the cancer will feast happily and gain momentum. When you're eating raw vegan foods, watch the cancer starve and whither away. And watch the exercise (getting oxygen into the cells)

Sure. I never measure, so if you just want to put the ingredients together any old way, I'm sure you won't go wrong. Here's a stab at it though. Keep in mind, these measurements haven't been tested--I'm just giving you my best guess. Morning Smoothies Say, use a base of 1-2 bananas and the juice of 3 oranges. Add 1 T of hemp seeds or 1/3-1/2 c of walnuts, a dollop of coconut butter or

Islandgirl, If you're in your first year of raw, don't worry about combinations yet. Just get through the year! You'll have plenty of time to fine tune your diet after it becomes easy and second nature. You're wanting "real food" reminds me of the days I craved Taco Time. Somehow, when I went raw I jonesed for the things I rarely allowed myself to eat as a cookie. Yesterday I had wh

I'd been eating raw for three years and not feeling the huge amount of happy energy the claims said I would. Two days after beginning to take B-12 (2,000 mcg once weekly) I felt fantastic. To get enough calcium, I eat sesame every day. I also make sure I'm getting Omegas w/hemp. Other than that, I just eat whatever I feel like and make sure I get a serving of green leafies daily. B.

Nope. It's sitting in the back of my cupboard. The mandolin, on the other hand... In all honesty, I could make it work, but it wasn't worth the time and awkwardness.

Hey there, Patty, I've been living a hectic life, not able to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I've been living without complex meals for a while. Here are some suggestions: 1) In the AM, go for heavy smoothies (mix fruit, nuts AND oil; since you're still in transition, you'll need a lot of bulk). Don't use your juicer for these, that just adds cleaning time. Use bananas, oranges, b
