I know, it's so sad. Yesterday I went to find a new raw foods cafe that had opened up (big excitement cos it would be the only one in this country apart from a few in London) only to find it had closed down already I can imagine why. Was gutted though, was really looking forward to some nice choc cake lol Everywhere I see Juice Bars opening up only to close a few months down the line. And Ju

wow, hun, you have my sympathy, sounds like you go through some serious pain there. But good news that you have been able to reduce your medication - does it feel like the raw diet is changing things for the better? I would personally not bother with cleanses/fasts etc so early on, I'm a fan of taking it slow and easing your body into its new pattern of eating... although I'm sure some people

it's been a while since I had a 9 - 5 type job, but when I did I found it pretty easy - just made up a smoothie for the morning, took a few pieces of fruit as a snack, and made up a salad with plenty of filling stuff like avo etc for lunch. And maybe a small bag of nuts as an afternoon snack. I didn't feel the need to take tonnes of stuff in, just looked like a regular lunch pack. I work even

I think a good juicer would be an excellent investment in your case. there's a lot of food that I would not be too fussed about actually eating, yet I love to juice them. you can get a Samson for about half the price of a green star, does a great job. also, have you tried EFT? it can be really useful with depression/emotional issues. PS: RE: ~ apples: I agree, sometimes they do seem boring. But they're a suberb addition to a green juice ~ oranges: again, agreed I usually only ever juice them, but I never bother putting them through the juicer, I just juice them manually. It's a lot easier. Why not get some less boring fruit? Treat yourself to some fabulous tropical stuff... mangoes, melons etc ~ fruit cr

Hi Petrichor funny how success/failure totally depend on state of mind... for most people, eating the kinds of 'cheating' foods you described would feel like a very successful healthy diet. It just depends how you perceive it. Don't be so hard on yourself - like you say, you managed to avoid the 'junk' foods, and I bet there was a lot of temptation while on vacation. I think where raw foo

thanks for the help guys. yes, I've been unscrewing those 4 screws, taking the ring off and giving it all a good scrub. Seems that it was just made a little faulty, so it doesn't quite fit properly. My boyfriend sanded a bit of the inner ring down once which seemed to loosen it a bit, think I'll get him to do that again. Shame I never realised when it was new enough to send it back for a repl

thanks juicerkatz yes, it's the same juicer that's in your picture. the retaining mechanism is about as stiff (as in, really stiff) whether the parts are assembled or not. I've had it maybe 2 years now, I think it took a while to get like that, can't remember. Probably you're right, like maybe the mechansism never quite fitted properly from the start. Sucks!

hi there I have a Matstone Juicer and I find every few weeks it gets stuck - the bit that fastens the mechanism onto the side won't turn around easily - makes it hard to take apart to clean. Does anyone else have this problem? I always make sure I keep it clean, but often I have to unscrew it, take it apart and give it a good clean on the inside, then I oil it with some vegetable oil, I fin

Hi Sixx your diet looks really well-combined, it's good you're keeping it simple, and keeping the fats for later in the day at dinnertime. I see you have a blender,(I think that's by far the most useful of the raw 'tools') you could think about some green smoothies - can keep it really simple, ie banana/celery, orange juice/strawberry/spinach, etc - just one or two ingredients is enough, and

Hi Suz I don't have any experience/knowledge of your particular condition, but I can say that in my own experience, all negative symptoms (physical pain, emotional distress etc) of menstruation completely disappeared after I changed to a raw diet. I also feel that the contraceptive pill, tampons etc are also related to pain in that area. I just try to keep things as natural as possible. J

ha, I can't take credit for the name I'm afraid Jodi I found it at the Funky Raw festival in Cornwall a couple of years back, some guys were doing it there. For anyone who's interested, they now run a raw food restaurant called Manna in Brighton, go along if you get a chance, I hear it's awesome!

lol frances, glad you're enjoying it thanks for all the ideas! it's true, salads can be so varied, that's what annoys me in restaurants when you get the boring old wilted lettuce etc. Can't they just be a bit creative? lol. Tahini, mmm yeah that would be nice - I've never made it before, I've ordered the pre-made stuff before though, it's lush! And sesame seeds would be lovely, I haven't b

hi all I just made some of this, haven't made it for years, forgotten how good it was. I had some spare veggies, cabbage and cauliflower, and thought it'd be a good way to use them up: 1/2 head cabbage 1/2 head cauli 2 cups assorted sprouts (mung bean, lentil, alfalfa etc) sea salt to taste (about 2 tspns) sprinkling ACV I cut up the cabbabe and cauli into little pieces, mixed in the

thanks frances I'll try that yes it's true they're not traditional, I think these ideas are just for some alternatives on the menu. utopian life, ha ha I know, that's my experience too, in most restaurants, not just Indian lol. oh you forgot the grated carrots That's why I'm glad she's asked me about this, with any luck we'll soon have a restaurant to go to where my boyfriend can indulge i

Hi there My boyfriend's colleague's dad (does that make sense? lol) is opening up an Indian restaurant, and she's asked me for some good ideas for salads (she's been trying the ones I make for my boyfriend to take into work and really likes them). Mine aren't really Indian-style though, I just throw some veggies together and mix em up I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas? t

it might be an idea to look at what kind of raw food you're eating... broccoli and cauliflower would probably give me a belly ache too... smoothies and juices can be an excellent way of getting your veggies without having to chomp through a load of fibre

I've never had a fancy blender, just regular cheapie ones, I've never had any problems blending smoothies. Just remember to add the water/fruity stuff first and blend a little to get the base going, then you can add the greens.

I read somewhere that citrus fruit was good - esp grapefruit. Also using citronella oil. I think it seems to be worse when you go to a new place, eg when you go on vacation, they seem to like 'fresh blood'... If you live in the same place they seem to calm down after a few months, or maybe you build up a resistance to them... who knows..

just thought I'd give a mention to Rejuvelac since it seems on topic here. I've been thinking about it today, seems cool to be able to use the soak water since it's so nutritious. Here's a website: and apparently you can make it from other grains such as quinoa etc.

I completely agree that the sun is totally necessary for our optimal health. But one thing I think about is how it obviously 'ages' our skin.. (I say obviously because you just have to compare the skin you've exposed to the sun with the skin you've kept covered). The only way I can explain it myself is that our conception of what an asthetically pleasing body/face is, is not necessarily the s
