As the mom of three teen girls, one of my greatest fears is that they will fall prey to an eating disorder. It breaks my heart to think of the pain a person must go through, and how out of control it must feel. I was wondering if anyone who has actually gone through this would be willing to tell me, in your opinion, the best way I can support my daughters so that they never fall victim to thi

Thank you so much for your kind offer, that is so generous of you! I am quite motivated to clean up my body - I am a breast cancer survivor, with six months of CEF chemotherapy under my belt (about four years ago), during which they had me taking massive doses of antibiotics (I had four school-age kids, so I guess they didn't want to take any chances on me catching anything), followed by sev

Good information - one of the big problems on my previous tests was that I had so many fillings in my teeth I keep showing up for a lot of heavy metals. I have gotten rid of all but one now, so I hope to see an improvement, although I know I am going to get told to get that last one taken care of! This will be my first time being tested since going raw - although I am trying to wait until som

My naturopath uses the Biological Terrain Assessment test as part of his evaluation. I was wondering if anyone else had ever had one. I believe this is used by a lot of practitioners, but each has their own preferences, so I don't think it is used by all naturopaths. It's quite interesting, and he believes it can tell you: • Level of acidity of the cells and fluids of the body •

It would sure be nice if we could find a way to target our youth and teach them about proper nutrition. I have three kids in high school, and every time I set foot in the building, I am astonished at the number of fat or obese teenagers walking around. (and a few teachers!) These are the diabetics of tomorrow. And why does it have to be like this, it never used to be this bad. I don't know if

Hi Cynthia! Welcome! I'm not from Quebec, far from it, (BC), but I feel like I have close ties to that part of our country - four French speaking kids, thanks to the wonderful French Immersion programs we have here! I heard from my daughter in Quebec yesterday - they were planning on going to the parade last night - sounds like fun. Here in Nanaimo, the Francophone association is gear

I wonder if aloe vera would help. Maybe a sauna could expedite the process (?) Sounds like the doctor wants to eliminate the symptoms, but if your body is healing you need to decide if this is something that it needs to be allowed to do. Halting the symptoms could also halt the healing, but you know your own body best. If the doctor says these creams will clear it up quickly, he is probably

If your acid/alkalinity balance is so very important, then can anyone tell my why it is not automatically measured at any regular checkup at your doctor - sounds to me like this could go an awfully long way towards predicting potential health problems. Actually, when I have my biological terrain assessment at my naturopath, he does measure my blood ph, urine ph and saliva ph. Then he provides

399. Re: GUM
It's really bad! One day, my daughter and I read a huge article about just how bad aspartame really is for a person, so I decided that if we were ever going to buy gum for a special treat, it would have to contain real sugar. Sugar might be bad, but if I had to chose between that and aspartame, well.... Do you know, we had a really hard time finding any brand of gum any more sweetened with

Thanks Taylor - if you have never tried it, I warn you now, it is totally addicting! It sure would be great to discover that it's exceptionally nutritious, haha!!! (but, I gotta admit, the addictions that usually get me are the ones that are the least good for me - chocolate, sugar, red wine, coffee, fresh bread, etc.) Hugs to you too! Sapphire

Taylor, see if you can track down a book called "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" by Christina Northrup (hope I got the name right). I read it a few years ago, and had tears running down my face, thinking about the things we go through, and how we are conditioned to lose touch with our own selves. Every time a woman experiences the slightest problem, the doctors seem to want to cut her

Hi Cynthia! My daugher is in Quebec city right now, on a cultural exchange. This is her first experience of real cold winter - she has lived her whole life on Vancouver Island out here in the west. I can't wait to hear from her tonight, this must be such a strange experience for her, haha!! Hope your cold snap doesn't last too much longer! Taylor, you did so great on your fast - I am sur

I don't know if this would work, but, what about mixing it with some soaked flax seeds and some seasonings and making some flax crackers (if you have a dehydrator). I bet the sesame would add a nice flavor. Good luck! Sapphire

Pakd4fun - I know, it is so frustrating. I think I probably had candida for many years, but there never seemed to be any real answers, no matter what I did (and at the time, I had no idea what was wrong). BUT, I think that this is one example of a person's body screaming that something is very wrong, and needs to be corrected. Its unbelievable that the entire medical profession doesn't seem to

Wow, suncloud, your thoughts about salt really resonate with me. When I eat a lot of cooked foods, I seem to have this strong salt addiction that kicks in. Not only do I always want to add extra salt to all the cooked food on my plate, but later, I start to crave salty snacks like salty popcorn. Funny, since being raw, I haven't touched the salt-shaker! Haven't wanted to. This salt thing

I have an Omega 8003, and I like it a lot. However, this is my first juicer, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I haven't done wheatgrass, but I believe it can, and it doesn't heat anything up. And I have made banana icecream - the whole family loves it. It's also really easy to clean. Sapphire

I think you could probably extend the freshness of your juice if you could put it into an air-tight container, like a thermos or something. I haven't tried it myself, but it seems to make sense to me. Sapphire

Arugula, I think Rawgosia was just quoting me. But that wasn't really meant as a criticism. Doctors need to be extremely well informed about every kind of illness and injury that might ever come their way. The amount of knowledge they must amass to do their job properly is mindboggling to most people (especially me!). I have nothing but respect for what they do. That being said, there is

alicenubby: I love that cookbook - I have it too! I have to cook for the other five people in the house, so it's so great to have some recipes for just me that I don't have to divide or figure out - I can just make a separate plate of food just for me! I love the marinara sauce, although the second time I made it, I accidentally used way too much garlic - you don't need much, and I'm cra

Labels make me uncomfortable. The way I eat today, might not work so well for me tomorrow. I don't want to be committed, or to not be open to anything that will work better. Seems to me that most people who are successful on this board have been through many different experiences. Discarding some things, keeping others, and eventually finding the thing that works best for them personally.

Last time I was at my local health food store, I noticed that they carry food grade peroxide - if you have a health store near you, it might be worth a look. Great information, I never knew about using it for your ears! Thanks! Sapphire

I had a visit the other evening from a most amazing lady, a relative of my husband. I hadn't seen her for over ten years, and she is now 75 years young. Last time I saw her, she was seriously overweight, pasty looking, and was thinking about moving, because the stairs in her house were too difficult for her. But then, a few years ago, she went to the doctor, and was told she was "pre-

Almost forgot - I own an Omega masticating juicer. It's the only juicer I have ever owned, so I don't really know how it compares to other types, but I like it. It is pretty easy to clean, just pop it apart and give everything a really good rinsing, and the juice is great. About the only thing I might complain about is that the stuff I juice has to be cut into fairly small pieces, unlike s

Brad1234: I am so very sorry to hear about your mom. I had breast cancer a while ago, and it's a long tough road. If she is going to have to do the chemotherapy and so forth, you need to take that into consideration. She will be very tired and not feeling great, so whatever juicer you get, it will have to be something that can be managed fast and easily, even if you sacrifice a little nut

I find that if I add some water or juice to whatever I am blending, it seems to help with this. I also think that it helps to put the harder items (like crunchy apples) into the Vitamix first, and the softer stuff (like bananas or soft berries) on top. Don't know why this makes a difference, but experiment and see if that makes any difference for you. I like to add a bit of water to all my s

Oh dear, I have had my eye on those Aquasana filters - they sound soo good, but I just haven't been able to get one yet. Please update if this keeps up, or if it turns out to be temporary. Is there any chance it just seems yucky to you because you are used to the distilled? Has anyone else in your home tried it? I'm surprised, I was under the impression these were very good filters.

Cellfood - I don't know exactly what it does, but it was first suggested to me right after I was diagnosed with cancer. I think that it was probably the first thing to come to mind because there is a belief in the connection between not being oxygenated enough and cancer. There are other oxygen products, but this one also contains a bunch of other stuff - amino acids, minerals, enzymes and so on

Yup, this is really great! I love not having to run to the bathroom every five seconds (or so it seemed!). Hope I am really as hydrated as I think I am! Eating fruit all day long is great - it's very liberating, peeling or cutting up a piece of fruit is much simpler (and way less messy!) than the traditional meal or snack preparation! And I juice a couple of times a day. I've looked at the
