I also do the five tibetan rites every morning. These exercises have strengthened me and given me greater flexibility and my body looks and feels better overall. They also have helped me tremendously in regulating my breathing, (I breathed too shallowly and would often unconsciously hold breath) thereby assisting in calming and grounding me as well. ~Kathleen

I've also been prey to every bad habit imaginable and I'm still battling a few. Personally I feel that slow change is best and by best I mean best for your body. I think that its important to realize that a raw diet is extremely cleansing and transforming of your entire body chemistry in time. This means, in my opinion, that when one takes ones diet to this level and continues to do such thing

I think its important to keep this whole "fruit is bad for the teeth" in perspective. Meat is bad for the teeth. Refined carbohydrates are bad for the teeth. Stress is bad for the teeth. No matter what one eats good oral hygiene is essential. Gum disease is on the rise in America and as we all know it ain't from eating too much fruit. It's important to maintain good circulation t

I did the MC for 9 days. I hated the Maple Syrup in the end. I had to force myself to use it. Personally, I would not fast this way again. Even thinking about it makes me contract. Has anyone done Bernard Jensons 7-Day Cleanse? I'm considering doing one in January. ~Kathleen

Yes Arugula, the one I use is an Eden product. As for menus I don't currently do them. I work to balance my diet against previous meals. In other words if I had bananas for breakfast one morning the next morning I will use another fruit. I also still use small amounts of cooked beans, grains and greens (such as mustard, collard and kale) for the evening meal (I always eat raw breakfast and lun

Arugula, if you like vinegar you may want to try Ume Plum. It's awesome as a salad dressing with either olive oil or flax. I also use it to thin down tahini for veggie dips. It's seriously yum. (Salty though so don't add salt too) ~Kathleen

You're right. It is Maradol (or something like that). I bought another one yesterday. They are soooo good and make the most satisfying smoothies ever. ~Kathleen

Mallow, I'd say it was the 16oz. Kombucha taken with the meal that is the culprit. I like Kombucha and I drink it occasionally but it is fermented and it does act almost like a soda or seltzer in my stomach (in other words it makes me burp). I wouldn't take it with meals. I take no liquids with meals anyway, unless, of course, the meal IS liquid because it interferes with digestion. Kombucha woul

I'll have to try green papayas. The Medjool papayas that I've been buying have a deep red-orange flesh. They are surprisingly unsweet compared to other fruits and have a somewhat odd odor, but they make a delicious and creamy smoothie. djatchi: can you recommend fruits that compliment whole lemons in a smoothie? ~Kath

ryandvan: this seems like a very sound and healthy transition diet to me. I appreciate the reference to the way chimps eat. It does make sense to eat fruit early and greens later. here in louisiana we can grow bananas. they are actually just beginning to mature and the plants are even still producing "babies"...this indicates to me that I may eat bananas longer into the winter months

I sliced open a lovely Medjool papaya this afternoon and the seeds were sprouting! I've never seen this happen before in any fruit. Please tell me that it is okay to eat the papaya at this point...it was delicious. ~Kathleen

There is frozen wheatgrass juice available at one of our local health food stores. What's the skinny on frozen wheatgrass? Is it a reasonable alternative for those of us who are not yet growing/juicing their own? ~K.

I look upon on-line forums as a microcosm. They are a little world within the larger and are therefore great "places" to practice dealing with the world at large. I am never in favor of heavy moderation nor of excluding anyone lightly from an on-line community. There are exceptions. There are those who "troll" on-line forums for the express purpose of stirring sh**t and occasi

Grains need to be chewed and chewed and chewed and thoroughly mixed with saliva until they are essentially digested before you even swallow them. Bloat often indicates that one is either eating too much grain or not chewing the grain thoroughly, ie, eating too fast. (The same goes with veggies of course and really any food) Ezekiel bread is extremely dense. A loaf of it lasts me on average two we

thanks Bryan Banana up then. Personally, I think this whole "addicted" to certain foods rap is over-played. What does that really MEAN anyway? Do we really need pop psychology in the field of nutrition? On the other hand, there is scientific evidence to support that eating to much of any one food, or eating any one food too often can result in allergic reactions to said food.

I have to wonder why you need to consume 8 to 10 bananas in one sitting too Bryan. That's a lot of bananas. In my opinion that's alot of food in one sitting, whether it be bananas or oranges or apples or romaine lettuce. Why the huge amounts? I've wondered that from the beginning or since coming to this forum. I'm not judging it as faulty or wrong because I don't know. It's just that my instincts

I LOVE lemons and I'm altogether addicted to lemonade. I am noticing that my teeth are feeling more sensitive though so I do make an effort to swish with warm salt and baking soda water at least twice a day. I've never tried them in a smoothie. Thanks for the tip djatchi. What do you find them good blended with? I hope that they really are the best detoxifiers on the planet because I just

Piano Gal wrote to Dave Mason: "re your thread on the inability of food to getcha into heaven." Is this thread on this forum? If so under what subject heading might I find it? I am particularly interested in the spiritual benefits of a conscious diet and would love to hear what others have to say concerning this. Thanks, and nice poetry guys!

This has been great! I assumed that "Fruitarianism" was the consumption of fruit, primarily sweet fruit and NOTHING else (like David Masons diet).Frankly, I don't see the distinction between raw food vegan and fruitarian as described, they seem to indicate the exact same diet. So? Where is all the controversy coming from? khale

I don't think I understand what you mean by the lemons being "key". Key to what? There isn't any one food that is a "key" in my opinion. I do eat (or rather drink) one to two lemons a day. My tummy likes them, they are good alkalizers and I find them refreshing on a hot day. But they're just lemons. ~Kathleen

In the meantime you may try removing the center "vein" from the leaves and tearing the kale into smaller bits. This works alright with my Black & Decker. ~Kat

Good thoughts Bryan. Thanks for sharing them. The whole emotional/mental thing may be the biggest challenge of all, as is breaking away from consensual reality ie "where do you get your protein". Something troubling that I've been experiencing during my transition is restlessness and boredom. I haven't been bored since I was 15 for chrissakes! Honestly I think its because I have more

Another thought related to this: Yesterday while at the check-out stand at the grocery store one of the ubiquitous magazines caught my eye. On the cover were photographs of "the rich and famous" who had either ballooned in size or become emaciated. Ballooning people are not unusual in our society so it was the emaciated that particularly drew my interest. Now obviously fasting would not

Bryan wrote: "If raw vegan foods were necessary for the body to heal itself, then with the absence of food we would see an absence of healing." I don't think its necessary to over-complicate this point. With the continual "absence of food" the body will die, so obviously food is essential, and pure, whole, healthy food optimal for healthy regeneration of cell tissue and

As for what Bryan said: "One thing to remember is that there is nothing medicinal or curative about raw vegan foods, but its that when you eat a health raw vegan diet, that you are introducing very little of the foods that cause the problems." This is akin to Dr. Fred Bisci's statement to the effect that it is not what you add to your diet that heals you but what you leave out c

The issue is not how many carrots you eat. The issue is getting lots of nutrients from a wide variety of veggies and fruits. Juicing is one way to do this. Granted, this may be something more important during transition or while new to a raw or whole foods diet because many of us come to this thing malnourished and needing to build as well as cleanse our bodies. Some of the experts say tha

Good recommendations David, thanks. There are days, and especially evenings and dinner hours, in which I stare blankly into the refrigerator thinking, "Are you REALLY going to eat ANOTHER salad?" So many weird, almost neurotic, things come up all the time now concerning food. It takes a lot of vigilance every day just to keep from getting wacky about it all. It really does help t

Juicing enables one to consume a whopping amount of powerful nutrition in a single glass. The "modern" rationale for juicing hinges upon the diminishing nutritional value of our foods caused by poor soil conservation, extended holding periods of fresh foods before hitting the market and so on (realities that are btw far from "natural" In other words our natural food supply is n

What's up with the hair loss? What exactly causes this? It seems a severe detox symptom indeed...to the extent that I'm not ready to accept that it is merely a detox symptom. It seems more a symptom of nutrient deficiency, specifically a mineral deficiency. I'm curious. For those of you who have experienced hair loss on a raw diet were there also any changes in your finger nails or skin?
