Hi Caitlin, Naw, I don't recommend any particular brands. I tend to switch out brands and try new products from time to time. Currently I am using Natures Plus "Acti-Zyme" which is a full spectrum enzyme (enzymes which break down carbs, fats, and proteins) and includes FOS which sponsers accelarated flora growth. Bryan does make good points. One of the most valuable aspects of Nat

I take both digestive enzymes and probiotics and this really tends to help with constipation. Also, both digestive enzymes and probiotics are useful for eliminating endogenous toxins from the body, which get really stirred up when first transitioning to raw and the cleansing process begins in earnest. There are people who will tell you that digestive enzymes and probiotics are "addictive&

with all due respect to the Fruitarians aboard, there is just not sufficient evidence out there to support a high fruit diet, quite the contrary. Every book on raw or live food health that I have read, every single one, and there have been many, strongly suggests, if not warns, against excessive fruit consumption. Hyperinsulinism is a REAL syndrome. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by den

The crockpot would kill your veggies. Sorry. But you could warm a good organic stock in it and add sliced veggies immediately before eating. You'd still have a cooked food in the stock, but the sliced veggies you could maintain raw. Something I would consider is to purchase one of those coffee mug with warmer getups. You could blend the stock (thereby staying raw) and add sliced veggies to tha

Partly, yes. Vegetable juices are highly concentrated nutrition and if you are not used to them they can be quite intense in the system. Many people new to juicing will have trouble with diarhea or even feeling woozy headed after drinking them. They are very cleansing. After you get used to them it isn't as necessary to dilute them, imo. ~Kathleen

I do go to the dentist for checkups and regular cleanings. Why would you not? I mean I understand that you might not want mercury amalgams in your fillings, or to be placed on antibiotics, or to submit to unnecessary x-rays, but you can discuss these things with your dentist and work these things out. My dentist knows I'm not crazy about unnecessary x-rays so we only do this if we feel its

Yes. I have experienced some changes in my menstrual cycle...however, at my age I can't be certain whether or not the diet is a contributing factor. I may simply be heading into full-fledged menopause. All I can say is that prior to these dietary changes I was regular and since the diet I have skipped a month altogether. However, I do believe that when you change one thing regarding the body y

I don't understand your response David. Are you saying that soaked seeds taste better or don't taste better? In my experience they both taste good, both soaked or unsoaked. The primary reason for soaking is to enhance nutrition and digestability. what do you think? ~K

I've noticed a few of you making a point of not soaking your food. Storm and Jingee don't soak either. And by soaking your food I mean nuts, seeds, grains and etc. and not necessarily as a prelude to sprouting but to eating. I'm currently soaking all nuts, seeds, and legumes prior to eating because I learned that these foods contain natural enzyme inhibitors to prevent premature sprouting and

I don't think that most essential oils processed for aromatherapy are food grade. I have quite a collection of essential oils that I use for salt scrubs and mineral baths including rosemary and oregano, but I wouldn't use them for food. Most essential oil products will say on the label whether it can be ingested or not. All of mine say NOT. ~Kathleen

Correction on my last previous post: Alcohol does not digest like other substances that we ingest (being careful not to call it food here). It actually gets absorbed into the blood stream by way of osmosis and then goes directly to the brain. ~Kathleen

Sugar and alcohol are not foods. Personally I think that craving for foods (real natural raw foods) are nutritional requests from the body for that particular food."

hey Sapphire, If you are eating flax in one form or another every single day then it doesn't surprise me that you are showing a sensitivity. This is the main reason that many of the "new" nutritionists recommend rotating our foods every three or four days. In other words, don't eat the same food twice in a three or four day period. The more often you eat a single food the more likely

hi Jen, I had been doing the back and forth thing too and I understand how you feel. In my case, much study, and confrontations with all the contradictions and differing dietary philosophies had me feeling less confident that I know what I'm doing at all. My temporary solution has been to eat raw for breakfast and lunch everyday and to rotate raw one night and very simple, lightly cooked th

Norman Walker DID live to be over 100 years of age. I've only seen one photo of him and he looks like an elderly gentleman, but a happy, spry, and healthy one. I love his little books. He's so motivating and positive in them and has a great sense of humor. What exactly are your goals djatchi? I'm getting the sense that you are most concerned with exterior signs of health, which can be mi

djatchi, I've had some time to look over the articles you recommended from the natural hygiene society. Some of these ARE disturbing and discouraging. I understand better now the point you were trying to make. I'm as confused as ever. ~Kath

I understand djatchi. My point, which I tried to broach on another thread, is that it seems of paramount importance to have realistic and well-grounded expectations concerning the long-range benefits of a living and raw food diet. Physicalimmortality, imho, is not realistic. Jet black hair at 90 is not realistic (and kinda creepy) Freedom from all grief, sorrow, pain and etc. merely from

Theres' an old blues song that comes to mind: "You're gonna look like a monkey when you get old.." or so the chorus goes. Ann Wigmore probably lived a lot longer, a lot healthier, and a lot more on purpose and usefully on her raw and living food diet than she would have otherwise. Ain't that enough? Kathleen

No shite Ian. I just spent five bucks for three organic Fuji apples (the Galas were actually quite a bit more). I read an article last week or so that discussed the obesity problem in America. One of the main reasons cited was that food was so readily accessible as already prepared. No one really has to cook anymore. In my own growing city one of the biggest new thangs is already prepared meal

Only for today. Otherwise, I am facing the Unknown. There are sometimes inklings of a defineable future...beacons, ideas, inspirations. I try and nurse these; play with them like a child with building blocks. Sometimes its good to be lost, or so I tell myself. But then, "what will a man not pride himself on if he be powerless to change it." Today I am clear. That's suffici

Dave? Are you saying that I've been spending all this ching on organic produce unnecessarily? I've been really diligent in purchasing only organic celery, lettuces, spinach, kale, apples, beets, pears and bananas especially. I will eat conventionally grown watermelon, avacados and grapes because (1) these fruits are hard to find organically grown in my area and (2) in the case of avacados I am

AstralMage has brought us into high country now. There are four basic elements that comprise all matter and the processes in which matter manifests. These are air, water, fire, and earth. Essentially, air is what we breath, water is what we drink, and earth is what we eat. Fire represents the metabolic processes in which these three transmute into matter. I will concede that it is possible,
