Hi, I feel best and most clear on a 100% raw vegan diet with no salt or condiments. Right now I'm giving the low-fat, high fruit approach a try for the first time. However, I find that whenever I feel bored I start thinking about going to raw restaurants for a splurge. There may be an emotional component to this (likely). Any tips on how to resist this temptation? Thanks.

IMO the best raw eateries in LA are: Leaf Cuisine (huge salads, great for lunch, 3 locations) Cru (more of a dining spot, trendy vibe, good for dinner) Euphoria (mock junk food, Greek pizza is very good)

Well good luck singinraw. I do know that for me the clear-headedness and energy that raw foods provides allows me to navigate life in the best possible way, and to avoid letting anyone have power over me. Best wishes.

I'm a contrarian on this. I think fruit flies are very, very useful because they tell you whether your fruit is good or not. If fruit flies are attracted to your fruit then the fruit is either over-ripe and beginning to ferment (and should not be eaten), or else there are just spoiled sections of otherwise good fruit. Either way the fruit flies are helpful in letting you know about your fruit.

Sounds like something that was part of the (anti-cancer) Gerson Therapy. Not sure if they still use it.

132. Re: figs!
I used to experience the burn from fresh figs so I started peeling them before eating: no more burn. The irritating element seems to be in the skin.

Hi Brendan, That would not be considered raw food as the grain has been cooked/processed already before being put in the package. There are raw grain recipes that use or sprouted whole grain seed, which is alive and raw. Cheers, LTF

I agree with anaken... probably to disassociate himself from his former identity (militantly anti-cooked food).

tea.mochi, in case you saved my response, I just wanted to clarify that I didn't mean to endorse or recommend the raw animal foods. I meant to offer them for consideration as transitional foods by letting you know that there are raw versions of some of the less-than-ideal foods you mentioned.

I'm just kidding around. I actually like Whole Foods. Generally though, mergers and acquisitions are not good for the consumer. More competition favors the consumer, while less favors the corporation.

I don't think the mealiness of the watermelon necessary had to do with its age. Even a fresh watermelon can be mealy/grainy in my experience. It just means it's not a great watermelon.

I don't. Although the theobromine in the very popular raw chocolate is similar to caffeine I believe.

The only true "sunblock" is a tan. That is the purpose of a tan. If you'd like to develop this natural sunblock, start by tanning 5 minutes per side for a week, then increase by 2 or 3 minutes per day until you reach the desired amount of daily sun exposure. You will then have a true "sunblock!" I believe commercial sunblock only prevents the skin from turning red, w
