i remember cheap shampoos, specifically suave, white rain and VO5 were really good at softening my rough hair. when i was on the swim team. here's a pic of my hair a couple weeks ago, visiting rockefeller center with my bald baby. this is why a boar's hair brush makes me a clown, and my ethiopian olive wood hair pick is the only detangler i use! peace-

Wow. what a hard situation. i love everything pistachio says. very much. and everyone else. funny, my husband and i had a less severe but similar fight last night about how he hates that i don't eat with him and that he can't cook for me. he loves to cook. i love to eat, but just not what he cooks. i think this is common, but is usually an indicator of other stressors in the relation

fuzzysox- we're horribly broke. so much so that dog food would/could be problematic. but feeding raw and healthy to your dog is pretty easy. we don't do much raw meat now, but we did when she was a puppy. i ground raw turkey legs (bones and all) and fed that too her, and she also ate raw chicken, raw beef and raw lamb. instead of the meat, you can give them marrow bones, they're affordable

i'm afraid even high quality organic delicious foods wouldn't taste good to a child who was not used to them. they are being programmed to respond and prefer high sugar, highly processed foods that give a certain feel to the mouth and a strange comfort. it is so sad. i have the same problem with children's food and parent's who buy into it. my friend says her kids never ate fruit before i t

The last six times i've bought flaxseeds, i've had to feed them to my hubby because i've had reactions to them. More than once i've found grains of wheat or barley in the flaxseed. Does anyone know of an uncontaminated source? i would love to incorporate them back into my diet, but i cannot handle the reactions to the wheat. it's too painful. peace-

medjools- oh my. i could never fantasize about another candy again... miaculpa- i remember going through that phase. i cut out greens and cruciferous because they just didn't work anymore. i had to do high watery fruits, bananas kinda lost their taste, as did avocados. but when i wanted savory, tomatoes and cucumbers were such a nice clean feeling food! now i'm back into greens, but i thi

i'm with Rawrrr, even the smallest grain of sprouted wheat in my wheatgrass will make me swell like a painful balloon... we're very spiritual and my husband has a hard time with all the bread and bible references since his wife cannot even take communion since it's all gluten. but he's also come to see that it's not the bread, the wheat, that makes the body thrive. wine makes a man's heart g

Hullo Bostonians! i'm in the northshore, and actually we have an incredibly cheaper market up here since we have so many local farms. We're getting an organic share at Green Meadows Farm up here in Topsfield/Hamilton/Ipswich area this summer. it's $575 for june-october, and it's a full grocery bag a week of their fresh, local organic stuff. i've never eaten at the organic garden, but been

InnerBeauty- a morning run! awesome. that is so great. i couldn't have thought of doing that until around 10 months. when some banana assistance eased the nursing for me. you do need to keep up your calories, huh? we're almost 14 months and breastfeeding, and everytime i try putting water in a bottle, and then i have to clean the bottle, i realize how easy breastfeeding is. i know a lot o

4 days! congrats! the third trimester is a great time to go raw, isn't it? i only wanted fresh fruit and light cleansing things, everything else just added to the huge bloated feeling... i think i was 100% raw for the first month and last month of my last pregnancy, certainly for the first month. and then i was raw right after birth. juicing is essential for nutrients, easy consumption, b

baking soda- another underated cleaning substance that will scour all pots and most tubs as rapidly as those scary cleansers... my mom always made us spring clean with tons of vinegar. now i appreciate that a lot more than i did then... peace-

i'm with alanabanana- i can't remember the last time i used commercial shampoo or conditioner. i do conditioning treatments with raw egg, raw sour milk, olive oil, coconut oil, beer or banana. i used to have VERY dry hair. i could use normal conditioner and not wash it out and my hair would love it. now my hair has a healthy amount of oils. i can go a week without washing, but it now gets so

BlueJaunte- i'm pregnant with my second baby and am about six weeks along. i had problems in my first pregnancy with keeping down spinach and salads, but watery fruits were wonderful. at first. it didn't take long before my body settled down and i could eat again. the first rush of hormones is very hard and even with bland cooked foods, you can feel horribly nauseous and constantly queasy.

Deb- my husband and i have done raw foods, juice fasts, all fruits/all veggies and so on and so forth for three years now. we're not 100% raw 100% of the time, and the husband is less consistent, but we haven't found severe weight loss to be an issue. we were both relatively healthy (oh my, after a few fun detoxes) when we started incorporating these ways of eating, and so weight loss wasn't s

i put my picky little pup on raw when she was probably 4 months, or less. when i got her she had the WORST gas and hated eating. i started putting raw eggs on her food, and then she ate it up, then i researched the BARF diet and added veggies, some fruits, and meat and bones. and fish oil. Never a problem. when i got pregnant, i couldn't make all the raw food (i would pulp the veggies

i heard this during my pregnancy, and tried for a few weeks to take the vitamins. and puked them up every time. i kept eating my raw foods, and just tried to not talk about it with the doc. halfway through, when i moved to the NE, i started eating more cooked food. Then i craved the vitamins. then i went back to raw, and they made me sick. so, i have a beautiful, amazingly healthy one y

um, my man might eat 75% raw because i'm around. but he'd never consider himself a raw foodist. even though he just got off a 40 raw juice fast. maybe women just interact more on it. and by doing the research and providing the food, my husband just enjoys and believes me on these things. because he can see the evidence. he doesn't read the books, or worry about that sort of stuff. so

cut out processed oj. the mold on oranges is candida albicans. and can irritate yeast imbalances. sugar, wheat and other processed foods encourage it. i've never had one vaginally, but baby had thrush, and husband had it intestinally. these things helped a lot. i've heard eat and @#$%& with yogurt. and the vinegar stuff. hope these help.

i think i'd never eat another salad without my cayenne. and i'll eat it fresh too. i love spicy peppers in all their forms, and though some people don't like them, my body (and my seven month old son's) seem to thrive on it. ginger is so good, i can't convince myself it's bad to eat. fresh that is. and sometimes my body wants salty/seaweed type stuff. not recently, but in soups, cert
