i'm with Rawrr- 25% of your diet, mainly one good meal, not raw is quite satisfying. i went 100% raw and then added cooked food back in, picking and choosing what worked for me. now i range between 75% and 100% raw, and i don't feel deprived. if i want a warm vegetable soup and chocolate during the winter, i have it. if i want potatoes or (goodness gracious) meat, i have it guiltlessly.

part of the visibility of cellulite is probably from the rapid weight loss. and part of what i've noticed is that before i lose a large fat store, especially an older one (re-outer thigh fat), it gets really soft and annoying. then it's gone. i'm not sure what that is, but somehow, the softer fat isn't as permanent on my frame. Bikini has a point- some foods don't help with the appearance.

tina- welcome! so glad you found your way here. for your first "raw" shopping trip, hit the produce section first. fill your cart. grab the fruits and veggies you already love, and then try a few that you've looked at and perhaps never bought. for salads, make sure you have a good variety, sprouts, dark greens (fresh, not bagged), dark lettuce, tomatoes, avocado. don't buy dres

shep- the fall and winter makes me want HEAVY foods. and i feel bad too. and the armpits, yeah. i find adding some spice to my foods helps a lot. and (i confess, but do not explicitly support as this forum is vegan) raw dairy. and dates and walnuts all smashed up with ginger (oh yum)- i have to add in the spices that i love, the warming ones like fresh ginger, cayenne (i dry my own fro

la veronique- i love smelling EVERYTHING, and it's so wonderfully satisfying. for me, sometimes more than eating! i boil cinnamon and apple cores on the stove to make my house smell delish- the husband thinks its strange (instead of buying potpurri like a midwestern housewife) i tell him POTpurri is what it is! totally love the orchard stories, all! will be going out this afternoon.

she had six kids, walked for an hour a day as long as she could (see above knee stuff) and played tennis three times a week during her youth. she lives on the water in florida, so she swam frequently and used light weights. like i said, she's married to a doctor. he opened a women and children's hospital in florida. she followed all the rules. the rules were wrong. exercise can actually

that's what i was afraid you were going to say, zohra- you're right, there's something familiar about fruits that are healthy and beckoning to be held and enjoyed. oh, like those delicious pears that look slightly sunburned on their sides and sweet yellow everywhere else. i've always had a great sense of smell, but it's improved lately, and i've been enjoying sniffing every fruit. my hus

confuzed- you should research allergies more. the more one is exposed to a food, the MORE likely they are to have an allergy to it. in cultures where there is a staple grain for generations, there are those who are allergic to that grain. my grandma is an example of someone allergic to foods who ate them her entire life- she is gluten-intolerant, married to a doctor, and started having sev

Raine- you're cracking me up! my mother-in-law is/was red. she went white soon after i married in. she's still dying it, but cannot get it right. if she finds a way, i'll let you know! i wonder if the sun is related. though my family has been very sun-exposed for generations, and the men go white around fifty and then live until 90, but the women seems to keep color until their seventi

confuzed- when you say Doug Graham is "obviously very successful", you probably aren't referring to his physical appearance are you? you've already pointed out that you don't think he looks good for his age. so what are your standards of "very successful"? i'm with the loverly lady called shep252- i've gone through phases where one fruit seemed like all i want, and i h

hm, your posts remind me of myself only a year ago. i drank so much kombucha that i made my own and started selling it. then somewhere along the way, i lost all desire for it, and about the same time, my nutritionist friend (also a newbie raw-foodist) who was buying also lost all taste for it. i've drunk it once since last fall, and it was good, but not as wonderful as it once was. sa

Thanks all! i have to repent, Red and Golden delicious- i found these incredible golden globes with a rosy hint on one side, and took them home to investigate, and they were smooth, crisp, bursts of light. the the reds i've had in the past, mealy, tasteless little creatures packed with school lunches, or found in hospital cafeterias, they are nothing like the burgandy colored, thick-ski

apple juice. my husband is on day 19 of a 40 day fast. he doesn't do well with fresh apple juice, it hurts his stomach, but it cleans him out, quickly. he's also noticed that he's not moving as quickly this time as usual. but the apple juice fixed that. does cabbage juice help? i know aloe vera juice does. it can be a strong laxative if the leaves aren't peeled, but just tonic if t

here's another idea for you- don't try all raw at once. i know you mentioned earlier on another thread that the 75% raw foodists weren't really doing it. but they are. they're doing what works for them. don't do vegan all at once. it doesn't sound like it works for you, and unless you really strongly feel you shouldn't eat meat, nothing anyone can say will make it unpalatable to you.

i get horribly chapped lips in the fall and winter. but i'm also a habitual lip-chewer/licker. this year i bought fresh bee's wax and i think i'm going to make my own balm. nothing has ever helped except to stop chewing and peeling the skin off. very hard for me. all the oils i try only make them worse. keeping myself hydrated is hard but helps. last winter i was so happy i had a per

fyi- in the winter i usually have one cooked food with my supper, or some sort of cooked food. that is just a personal choice and it works for me. but for raw foods, i really like filling and spicy savory foods. Avocados are a must in my kitchen, as are nuts. i'd probably try a raw pizza with dehydrated flaxseed cracker for a crust, tomatoes either sliced or diced with dulce, oregano, ba

A LOT. when i lived in NM, no matter how much raw juicy foods i ate, i still needed a lot of water. Now i'm in the NE, and i think i'm drinking more! part of it is during the winter the heaters come on and they dehydrate me. and i'm also breastfeeding, so more fluids there as well. right now, i'm drinking about 3 liters a day as well. i think. i don't measure, and i drink tap water b/

you'd be surprised how your body will compensate at your age for things like this. look around, how many others ate worse than you and are fine. plus, they always add nutrients to processed foods, and zinc is in there. i think we'd have a totally underdeveloped culture if your worries were well founded. i'm curious as to where you get some of your ideas. i don't think raw food is goi

sunshine. like a cat, i find the patches in my house and bask in them. when i walk i don't cover up. i also have used non-vegan sources in the past, so i won't discuss that here. you only need a little bit of sunlight. a 15 minute walk a day will do it. and they are looking at getting more mushrooms exposed to sunlight so that they will have more vitamin D. but i think most mushrooms hav

mmmmm- tomatoes and basil- got some fresh end of the seaon from a friend's garden. had to dry most of the basil. i like savory for dinner- avocado cut chunky tomatoes to taste-diced fine helps make a sauce, chunky adds them to the salad (i could live off of them, so i eat them in more abundance than any other fruit) cucumber cut chunky pepper chopped fine (i personally don't like be

sounds like the faster you get results, the better you'll feel. i would go ahead and aim for two juiced meals a day with a healthy snack and salad. that would give you a decent dose of energy to start with, and then work on dinner later. i dove into juicing totally and lived on it when i first got a juicer. apple seed are usually so small and few that they don't have enough arsenic to

NO MINERAL OIL!!! it is not absorbable into the body and only lines the intestines restricting nutrient uptake. hemp, flax, unfiltered cold-pressed olive, coconut (YUM)oil (the solid white stuff that smells delish is the only one!)- when i run walnuts through my juicer, the oil frequently separates, and i used that on salads as well. very nice. peace

ew, fast food? i'm only 26 and haven't had a bite of that for over 10 years! it doesn't taste good. or i don't remember it tasting good, but the smell seems more tempting. i'm with the rest. diversify. sometimes, i don't have enough time in the day to eat all the delicious foods i want. and even more frequently, i realize i'm not hungry, so i have to WAIT until i'm hungry to eat the food

warnings- first off, allergists never diagnosed my food allergies. and doctors told me it was my salt consumption that made the swelling so bad. docs really hate to tell people not to eat wheat, which i'm learnig makes EVERYONE swell. it's just that it isn't until people get off of it that they really notice the difference. second off, a lot of those "beautiful" people don't eat

and yeah, what bryan said. i think we were posting at the same time. another thing, confuzed, is take it easy. this isn't a huge ordeal that has to be decided now and ultimately forever. just sit back, breathe deeply, and take a big bite of that banana. is it good? good. chew thoroughly and swallow. now how do you feel? want another bite? good. take one! live life like this. takin
