Thanks Apple and Meow. I think you are right. Actually, I figured out calories on fitday.com, to see how much fruit it will be reasonable for me to eat a day. I figured out that I can eat a box of berries, apple, orange, and banana + a big salad (half for lunch and half for dinner) and still only eat around 1,000 calories. I went to a Hanukah party last night and the thought of eating latkes

Great job, Apple! I think the trick is to identify your weakness and figure out how to avoid that. Beacuse, we are all women of discipline with a few moments of weakness. You -- nuts at work. Me--eating at night. Figuring out how to plan ahead during "trigger" times will nip these little habits in the bud. Sounds like you are doing great! Keep up the good work. I'll post my pl

Oh, one other thing, when I was putting my salad together today in the law school kitchen for dinner, my friend came in looked at my salad and said, "that looks delicious, I should be eating that"! It is fun to make people think twice about looking down on salads :-)

So, this is my goal for tomorrow: b: blackberries -- maybe a few nuts l: 1/2 of my normal big salad s: 1 pc fruit, whatever I am in the mood for d: 1/2 of my normal big salad s: 1 pc fruit, whatever I am in the mood for Going to try for no nuts as well. I'll see how I feel on this amount of food. I think it seems like a reasonable baseline to add a fruit or two to if I feel the need.

Great job, Apple. Don't worry about eating when you are not hungry for now (as long as it is raw). I think that once your body gets used to eating raw, you will slowly be able to wean yourself off of this habit. For now, sounds like you are great! Day #2 is good for me. Just got back from swimming (one nice thing about being a student -- exercise in the middle of the day!), and am going to

Thanks for your suggestions. I think it is probably a good idea to only eat fruit -- maybe melon since it has so much water, and tea when I get home. It is just a bad habit, along with stress from the day. I think I am going to be battling this for the long-term, but if I can think ahead and manage it then i should be okay.

well, i ate 4 apples and 20 raw cashews when I got home. Stress, hunger, bad habit, boredom? maybe I didn't eat enough during the day? At least it was raw... But...I want to limit it to 1-2 apples at night, no nuts. I think night eating will be a lifelong challenge. The rest of the day is SO easy for me, but when I get home I feel kind of out of control. Ideas?

Hi Apple: Sounds like you are doing great so far! Don't worry about the emotional eating -- it is fantastic that you stayed raw despite the stress in your life. What I do sometimes if I feel the need to emotional eat is to just much on a bunch of celery and carrots. I know it is not as much fun as dessert-like things. However, I think the crunching also helps get some aggression out. Great j

Just had a banana, yum! It is strange, I can totally tell that I ate cooked food this weekend -- like I am feeling lethargic and even feel like I gained some weight. In one weekend?! Crazy! Anyway, It is 100% raw for me. There was some trail mix on the salad bar (nuts, dried fruit) that I might have taken in the past. However, I didn't take any out of fear that it was cooked (probably was).

Great Job, Amy! I have an interesting proposal for you...since you and I seem to be pretty much on the same wavelength and similarly new to this whole raw thing, do you want to do a daily count together? Starting with today or tomorrow? we could blog to one another: day #1 100% raw, day #2 100% raw, etc. to see how far we can each get until we eat something cooked. We could set goals for numbe

Amy and Meow: I can't tell you how much your positive feedback and support help me. Thank you, thank you! It is really helpful and meaningful to have support like this, since it is tough to come by in my "real" life. Amy, I think you are right, the occasional "slip up" is really minor, and really not going to jeopardize the rest of our raw efforts. Today I bought a bunch

Thanks so much for your support, Meow! I really appreciate your feedback, advice, and support. I think your idea of adding sweet fruits to my diet is a good one. I do eat berries, bananas, etc. However, I don't eat a ton of melon, apples, or oranges. I could definitely add these in. I also noticed that you tend to eat an apple after dinner most days. I think that might be a panacea for my n

Hey David: Maybe you could have some sprouted grain bread. It is really heavy (fills you up), and is relatively healthy (for bread standards). Maybe instead of forcing yourself not to eat it, just limit yourself or slowly wean yourself off of it. 2 pieces today, 1.5 tomorrow, 1 the next day, etc. Or think of a good raw replacement that fills that craving. Best of luck!

Well, I went swimming but only 1/2 a mile because I felt really tired -- that's 34 laps. Not terrible, but not my usual spunky self. I think I am feeling down now that it is really getting cold and finals are quickly approaching. I am glad I went though -- I haven't taken a day off of exercise in over 2 weeks. I really was planning to take the day off today, but in the end I really wanted t

Thanks, Meow for your kind words and support. Maybe I am just meant to be at this weight -- I am in my healthy range. However, I really think that I would look and feel better about 20-25 pounds lighter (140ish). At 5'9" that would still be well within my healthy range. Meow, I haven't had a chance to make the raw hummus yet. I am studying for finals, and feel like that is taking over

This am I ate melon and had some tea, yum!! I think I am going to take a day off from exercising. Haven't had a day off in a long time and I need a rest. It is that time of the semester where I don't have time to go to the grocery store or to make my own food, so I am just going to get a salad at a local salad bar for lunch. Not ideal, but raw nonetheless.

Hi All: I am doing quite well eating raw all day. However, the bane of my diet existence is night eating. I am always SO HUNGRY when I get home. A typical day is as follows: breakfast: fruit lunch & dinner: big salad throughout the day: fruit, nuts, water, and green tea I exercise every day -- either I swim a mile or do a spinning class. So at night when I get home I am HUNGR

well, I was very hungry when I got home since I ate way less than I normally eat. so, I gave into my late night craving. But it wasn't bad I had: sprouted mung beans a few pine nuts a couple of bites of my roommates "chile sin carne" (this was the only not raw thing that I ate) I still feel pretty empty and good. However, I am wondering if I will ever be able to give up th

Thanks, Meow. Your blog inspires me. I read it almost every day. You seem very on target and disciplined about eating raw. I am very disciplined about exercise -- haven't taken a day off since my birthday a few weeks ago (and that was only because I had visitors, not because I couldn't get motivated). Now it is just a matter of sticking to a raw food plan as much as I do exercise. Keep up
