Speaking of too much sugar: When one overeats carbohydrates, what happens is the body converts the excess carbohydrates into fat, which can lead to obesity. When one overeats fiber, one starts to experience weight loss, because there are not enough usable calories consumed. There can also me malnutrition, because there are not enough vitamins and minerals consumed. When one overeats fat

djatchi, I eat a lot of bananas. While they are not my favorite fruit, they are the cheapest source of organic fresh whole ripe fruits. The more bananas I eat, the lower my food bill is, since I'm paying $1 a pound versus $2 to $5 a pound for that food. How do you know that bananas have too much sugar? Is this from your own personal experience of eating bananas for years like I have? Or are

I have a set of 3 hanging baskets, that I keep small fruit, stone fruits in. I converted a pot/pan rack into a rack to hang bananas from, since I will buy 20 to 40 pounds of bananas at a time.

What causes fruit flies is fruit that is overripe that is either rotting or has breaks in the skin/flesh. Also, any compost that is left unsealed is an excellent breeding ground for fruit flies. To control fruit flies, I do the following: I keep all my compost in a 5 gallon sealed bucket, the kind you get at the hardware store. The fruit flies are unable to get to the compost unless they are l

My late summer meals have been looking as follow: noon: 4-5 pounds watermelon 6pm: 2 banana smoothies - 8-10 bananas, strawberries. After the smoothies digest for a while, I have a salad - 6-8 ribs celery cut with slicer disc in food processor, 2-3 tomatoes, 6 tomatillos, bell pepper, cilantro

This is definitely a vegan forum! Non-vegans are welcome to participate in the discussions, but promoting non-vegan foods is grounds for losing your account. I was not a veg*n when I went raw, nor was I one as I transitioned. That being said, when I posted on this vegan forum, it wasn't hard for me to not push my non-vegan foods. There are very few places where vegan can discuss their food

Too much of any food, whether it is fruit or lettuce is not good for your health. That being said, there are raw vegans, myself included, who do well with over 80% of our calories coming from fresh fruit.

Arvydas, I've sit and watched deer eat for hours. They are opportunitic eaters, and will eat whatever is tasty and available. And when the less tasty stuff is no longer availble, they'll eat the less tasty stuff (like dried grasses). As for what humans should eat, what kinds of foods are easily obtained with our particular anatomy? If we are in a forest, how hard is it for us to eat a fruit o

People seem to have a lot of objection to calling coconut oil "empty calories". By empty, I mean devoid of the other nutrients that were once part of the food. In this case, the coconut is first sqeezed, then put through multiple passes of a centifuge until it is a pure oil. If it pure, what happened to all those other nutrients in the coconut that aren't oil? They have all been discard

Whole fresh ripe raw organic fruits and vegetables are the best foods to eat. Increasing the amount of whole foods, fresh foods, ripe foods, raw foods, organic foods, and fruit and vegetable foods in your diet will give you superior nutrition.

The body is very good at not throwing away calcium. The reason the recommendations for calcium are so high is partly because of the dairy and meat industry influence on these numbers. Also, on the SAD diet, the body becomes so acidic that the diet actually causes leaching of calcium from the bones to neutralize the acidity. On a healthy raw diet, where protein is lower and hopefully the fat intak

fruitlux, Its great that you recognize that you don't know what to think. However, it sounds like you let your thinking scare you away from a diet that seemed to be working for you. You didn't mention that you had any problems on your raw diet, just that the stories that you heard scared you. One of the lessons I've learned on my raw journey is to trust my own experience over the recommenda

I was at the Vibrant Living Expo at Living Light this year. It is quite an exceptional facility. They have definitely raise the quality bar in the raw education field. Also, the list of graduates who have gone on to raw chef fame is quite impressive, including Roxanne of the famed raw restaurant of the same name.

Hybridization is a natural process, and it in fact hard for farmers to avoid. Just the other day I bought a Baby Crimson watermelon whose flesh was like a Navaho melon. I suspect that the Baby crimson, which normally has a dark red fresh and small crunchy black seed, was pollenated with a Navaho, which has pink fresh and chewy large light brown seeds. The farmer grew both Baby Crimsons and Navaho

Most baked sweet foods contain a lot of fat. Its is the combination of fat and starch that presents a harder to digest combination. Also, grains contain opioids. This is what makes wheat so addictive. These opioids also sedate the body, so people often feel calmer and more grounded after eating wheat. This is also what makes grains addictive, as opioids are addictive. What helped me in get

There are two reasons why watermelon may hurt your stomach, and each one has a different symptoms. If when you eat watermelon, you get gas or diarreah, this is because there is some food still in you stomach from a previous meal, and the watermelon starts to ferment because it can't get past the previous food, which is still digesting. The 2nd symptom is just plain stomach pain or body chills,

The amount of hype about B12 out there is amazing given how few people die from B12 deficiencies. Pernicious anemia is the disease one gets when one has B12 deficiency. This is one of several anemias, including Hemolytic anemia, Idiopathic aplastic anemia, Immune hemolytic anemia, Megaloblastic anemia, Secondary aplastic anemia, Sickle cell anemia. In 2004, ALL anemia deaths in the US came to

When the body is detoxing, and you reintroduce the toxin, the body does feel better. The raw vegan diet does present its challenge of detox, and when people experience the symptoms of detox - which could be cold/flu like symptoms, or could simply be weakness or fatigue, they get frightened into returning to their old ways, and guess what - the symptoms disappear. I've experienced the weakn

runnerchom, Braggs ACV has acetic acid, based on the link that rooneyandmuldoon gave in his earier post above. Its concentration of acetic acid is no different that commercial white vinegar. From the Braggs website: Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar pH = 3.075 Concentration/Strength = 63 grain Acetic Acid = 5.14 % Potassium = 24mg/Tbsp. <2% DRV / RDI By the way, perhaps there is more addi

Kathleen, QuoteMy point is that one can't make a hard and fast rule concerning how the body heals itself. "Getting out of the body's way" sometimes requires not eating and sometimes it requires eating; sometimes it requires rest and sometimes it requires exercise and so on. I agree with you on this point. My body tells me it wants. What makes it difficult for me to hear my body's

Raw vegan foods provide us with fuel and nutrients. It is the body that heals itself. I don't know if people are familiar with fasting, abstaining from all foods and getting total physiological rest, but when we fast, and there is no food being comsumed, this is when the body is able to perform its greatest healing. If raw vegan foods were necessary for the body to heal itself, then with the abse

Marcos, While I think you a great person and your presence is a blessing here on the board, I'm not sure I would listen to your health advice, especially when it comes to diet, as your diet and lifestyle has led you to suffer from parasites. I know a lot of people eating mostly fruits and greens, and none of them have parasites and need cleanse like you seem to need. I have swum in waters that

What were the ingredients in the recipe you made, and how much of it did you eat? I ask, because there are different things you can do that might help but it does depend on what was eaten (or overeaten).

Nedsin, I've heard that athletes training for the Olympics will sleep in excess of 12 hours during their training. Members of the Kenyan running team will sleep in excess of 20 hours during their training. I've heard that some people who were unable to gain muscle on the raw diet (who where training very hard), increased their bodyweight simply by adding 3 extra hours of sleep each night. It i

John, Thank you for this excellent research. Especially for pointing out that agave is not even raw, as many people think it is (as did I). I was at a raw food prep class at this years Vibrant Living Expo, and the chef was making a raw chocolate mousse. This mouse was made from agave syrup, soaked dates, avocado, celtic sea salt, and raw chocolate. One person in the audience asked the chef

One doesn't lose muscle on the raw diet, nor does one gain muscle. Muscular people whose muscles appear to shrink on the raw diet didn't lose muscle, but lost water and fat that was marbled in with the muscle. A typical bodybuilder has such a high fat unhealthy diet that their muscles contain a lot of fat. Even when fasting and drinking only water, the body will first consume all the fat on th
