Mixing dried fruit and nuts are going to cause problems after eating them for some time, as dried fruit are much sweeter than fresh fruit, and nuts are high in fat. This high fat/high sugar combination is not good for anyone concerned about their insulin level/hypoglycemia/hyperclycemia/insulin resistance. The healthiest breakfast to eat is just fresh whole ripe organic raw fruit.

An easy way to start is by increasing the percentage of whole fresh ripe raw organic fruits and vegetables. All fruits can be eaten raw, and the leafy greens can be eaten raw. Starchy root vegetables or vegetables with tough cellulose are less edible in their raw state.

Just as white sugar or white bread are considered "empty calories", as they are refined products that have only carbohydrates but no vitamins, minerals, fiber, phytonutrients, antioxidants, oils are also a "pure" fat, that all the vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, and fibers have been removed.

Grains contain opioids and are addictive. To get enough carbohydrates so that you won't desire grains, eat sweet fruit in sufficient quantities to cover your carbohydrate needs.

The local weekly here in Humboldt county in northern California had an article about Kombucha. The article gave some of the negative aspects of the drink: Quote But most of these medical claims are merely anecdotal, and very few are backed up by scientific research. Most medical analyses of Kombucha, in fact, have found it to be considerably more dangerous than it is beneficial. Drinking too m

Yes, how can you skip the fall and go straight to winter? I love the persimmons in the fall. I enjoy both the fuyu and the hachiya varieties of persimmons. In the winter I enjoy the satsuma tangerines, and last year I tried a new variety called Murcotts which I really liked. Also, in the late winter a lot of mangos are available, the ataulfos I love, and I found a new variety last winter/s

Can you get off the meal plan and use that money for your own grocery bills? The fruit and greens in the dining hall are probably not organic, and most likely won't be so ripe and fresh. If you are eating raw, it seems much easier to buy and prepare your own foods, especially if you are eating a lot of fruits and leafy greens, which don't really require any prep time.

If organic is not a choice, because of non-availability, there is not much you can do except move somewhere else. If it is an economic barrier, the only thing that is going to bring down the price of organic foods is to create a greater supply, and that only comes from a greater demand. If there is no demand for organics, there will be no supply. Eating raw commercial produce will always be

You can become addicted it digestive enzymes. The more you use them, the more your body will depend upon them. This is because since the digestive enzymes will be coming from the supplements, the body doesn't need to create them any more. After a while, the body will cease to produce them altogether. While this is a great situation for the people who sell digestive enzymes, is this what you wa

The problem is that bacteria live in the air. How to you prevent airborne bacteria from getting into your culture? Also, eating a product that is made from refined sugar cannot be healthy. How is this a raw/living food, when the raw material is a dangerous substance like refined sugar?

The way to get over a starch addiction on the raw diet to eat a lot of sweet fruit. Take those old starch meals, and enter them into a nutritional calculator like fitday or nutridiary to see how many calories of carbohydrates they contain. Then use the nutritional calculator to see how many pieces of sweet fruit it would take to have the same number of carbohydrates. If you eat the fresh fruit

Garbanzo contain the complex carbohdyrate called raffinose. Humans don't have the digestive enzyme to digest raffinose. From Wikipedia: QuoteThe Raffinose Family of Oligosaccharides (RFO) are alpha-galactosyl derivatives of sucrose, and the most common are the trisaccharide raffinose, the tetrasaccharide stachyose, and the pentasaccharide verbascose. The RFO's are almost ubiquitous in the plant

It is starchy. The predominate nutrient is starch at 68%, with its less dominate nutrients of protein at 19% and fat at 13%. Are you taking about cooked garbanzos or raw ones? I was talking about people who make raw foods from raw garbanzo beans.

By the way, if any of you are 100% raw, you will notice that maple syrup will start giving you detox symptoms (your body will detox the syrup itself). The master cleanse is definitely a cleanse more oriented to folked whose bodies are accustomed to eating cooked foods.

Making your own kombucha can be dangerous. People use sugar to create the ferment. It is possible to get bacterial strains that will make you sick. Also, the by product of fermentation is alcohol and acetic acid, both of which are toxic to cells in the human body.

Garbanzo beans are hard to digest because they have a high protein and starch content. Most people who try to eat raw garbanzos usually don't do it twice because it creates a lot of gas. For people who want to make raw hummus, try using grated cauliflour instead. Our bodies create their own B12, in the mucus membranes in the nasal passages and throat, as well as in the intestines. People who a

Putting epsom salts in your colon is unhealthy. First of all, your colon is made of mucus membranes lke the ones found in your mouth. Putting epsoms salts in your colon will draw water out of your colon and dehydrate you. Epsom salts are traditionally used as a purgative or laxative. The reason the body eliminates so quickly after taking epsom salt is because the epsom salt is toxic to the bo

Hi Casy, Its great that you are paying attention to organic. Organic celery is great. The Crazy Richard's peanut butter is a cooked product, so that is not a good item for a raw foodists. If you want a nut butter, almond butters can be found raw. Peanut butter is never (or rarely) raw because peanuts have a toxin called aflatoxin that comes from mold that grows on the peanuts. Flax seeds cr

The stuff about the saturated fats I learned in a raw nutritional science course. I agree that fat is a vital nutrient, however it is only needed in small quantities like 3% to 5% of total caloric intake. This means if you are eating a 2000 calories diet, that 60 to 100 calories, or 7 to 11 grams of fat are needed daily. 1 tablespoon of oil is 120 calories, which is more than the minimal necessar

innervegetable, Dietary saturated fats are a waste product as they are unusable by the body. What make a fat usable is its capacity to hold nutrients, be it proteins, carbohydrates, or other micronutrients. Saturated fats are unable to hold nutrients as all of its bonds are taken (this is where the term saturated comes from), and thus is viewed by the body as a waste product. When you eat the

Fruits and vegetables do not contain cholesterol. Cholesterol is created in animals, and as animals humans are able to create all the cholesterol they need. So we do not need a dietary source of cholesterol.

humbug, How many bananas do you need to eat to consider it a binge? It is not unusally for me to eat 700 calories worth of bananas (8 large bananas) in a regular meal. Perhaps if you looked at your caloric intake in a day including your banana binge, you might find out that you didn't overeat bananas at all. For me, when I ate cooked, I could easily eat a 1000 to 1500 calorie meal in a m

The essential raw foods are those that are whole fresh ripe raw organic fruits and vegetables. In fact, the more foods you can eat with these attributes (whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic), the better your health will be. As for exercise, walking is excellent exercise. Getting 30 minutes (or more) of walking (not a slow walk, but spirited) will help with your overall health. Foods to avoid:

I looked at that Enig article. The research she presents isn't so compelling. For example: QuoteHow much total saturated do we need? During the 1970s, researchers from Canada found that animals fed rapeseed oil and canola oil developed heart lesions. This problem was corrected when they added saturated fat to the animals diets. On the basis of this and other research, they ultimately determine
