Dehydrated foods are not the ideal choice for the raw fooder. They are more of a transitional food. There are 2 problems with dehydrated foods. The first is that they dehydrate you, as they have a lower percentage of water than your body does. So when you eat them, they make you thirsty. The 2nd problems is that some of the nutrients get oxidized in the dehydration process. Not as bad as cooking,

You definitely don't need these items to enjoy the raw lifestyle, but they can be fun. For me, the most used appliance is my blender, and the second most used is the food processor. This is because I eat mostly fruit, and make a lot of fruit smoothies. I made a great salad last night in the food processor. I used the 2mm slicer disc to slice celery into a salad. Then with the S-blade, I proces

Marcos, QuoteHimalyan sea salt has the power to reenergize the body and the site that currently carries it is owned by a raw foodist that has done extensive research. I have to question any ressearch presented by anyone who sells the product. You think I am telling you what to eat or what therapies you should take. If you want to do these things, I have no problems with that. However, for

We do not need to eat saturated fats. Our body can create saturated fats from the essential fatty acids.

Is there a reason that you feel you need to take coconut oil in a therapeutic fashion? The reason I ask is that taking 3 tablespoons of coconut oil is a lot of saturated fat to eat in a day (175% of recommended intake of saturated fat), and raises your fat intake to a pretty high level (@ 350 calories of fat). NutritionData.com says that this amount of saturated fat is strongly inflammatory (-334

Fruit is the best raw lunch to go, as it requires little or no preparation. If I bring melons, I will take a knife and a spoon with me. I also bring produce bags to throw my compost into.

Hi Little Bug, I am not trying to tell you what you should or should not do. I certainly don't want anyone telling me what I should or shouldn't do. The list of healthful habits I mentioned I try to practice, but I do not always do all of them all the time. Its not about being perfect, but understanding which habits will bring great health, and which habits will take away health. Of course u

Its easy to see how a long term 100% raw foodist could be sick enough their body could contains parasites. This is because some 100% raw foodists have unhealthy diets or lifestyles. What kind of things can a long term raw foodist do that will decrease their health? 1. Work too much. 2. Too much stress. 3. Not enough sleep 4. Not enough exercise 5. Exposure to toxins. 6. Not enough fres

Marcos, Why do you call Matt Monarch a Natural Hygienist? The label doesn't matter. There are folk out there who call themselves Natural Hygienist that eat cooked food or raw animal products. They call themselves hygienists, but don't promote a hygienic (healthful) lifestyle. So what they call themselves, or what someone may call them is uninteresting. What is interesting is do they promote a

I had toenail fungus for a few years before going raw. After a year of being raw, they went away. The fungus in an internal condition, and any "cure" that is going to stop the symptoms are going to be quite toxic. The medication that is offered by western medicine is very toxic to the kidneys and liver. Eating a raw vegan diet with a fat intake of 10% or less will help. Also what is

How do you know you lost muscle mass and not fat? Most folk on the SAD diet, even if they are not overweight or look fat, have fat marbled inside their muscles. If the muscles appear to shrink when eating a raw diet, this doesn't mean that muscle cells where absorbed or digested, assuming the person ate enough calories. The way to create muscle is to exercise. The way to lose muscle is to not

The thing about a fast to lose weight, while the weight does come off, it isn't likely to stay off unless your eating habits are permanently changed. When you are eating cooked foods, keep your fat intake under 10% and you will have a better chance of staying at a healthy weight. When you are eating raw, also keep your fat intake under 10% to keep the fat off.

The pain in the lower back is probably not caused by diet, but with how you use your back, whether your body is in proper alignment, and your posture. For most folks in western society who sit at a desk job all the time, their lower backs are tweaked from sitting in chairs all the time with improper posture. But many of them don't feel the pain of the bad posture because they've been sitting this

I heard someone speak who had experience with parasite he had acquired from drinking contaminated water in Africa. He came down with these parasites, and tried a 1 week water fast. That didn't work, so then he tried a 2 week water fast. That didn't work, so he tried a 3 week water fast. That didn't work. What finally worked was a 32 day water fast. He is parasite free since that water fast. I

Constipation is caused by substances that dehydrate the body. This could be cooked foods, or salt or other solids that cause the body to hold onto water, or even dehydrated foods. What helps relieve constipation are foods that contain soluble fibers, like those found in fresh fruits and leafy greens. The insoluble fibers found in nuts and seeds and grains, especially bad is flax, can irritate

Marcos, Here you are, doing your cleanse for the last couple months, and you still have parasites. As far as I can tell, I have done no cleanses except for water fasts in the last 5 years, and I don't have a single symptom of parasites. I feel healthy, look healthy, and have plenty of energy to do what I need to do. On the other hand, people with parasites are undernourished or malnourished

Soy is not a raw food because it is indigestible unless it is cooked. On a cooked diet, there is no need to eat that much protein anyway. Anything over 10% is going to acidify your body, as the byproduct of protein metabolism is uric acid. Eating excessive protein contributes to kidney problems and osteoporosis. Looking at the nutrition databases, boiled soybeans are 30% protein, 38% fat. Tofu

80 grams of fat is 720 calories. If you typically eat 4000 calories a day, you are eating about a 20% fat diet. However, if you are eating more like 1500 calories a day, your diet is 50% fat. If your fat percentage is closer to 50% than it is to 20%, you are eating an unhealthy amount of fat. If you eat only fresh non fatty fruits and vegetables, and you are eating enough calories to fuel your

The reason that any sweetner like honey, agave nectar, maple syrup, date sugar, etc, is going to be problematic is because there is no fiber to slow down the rapid entry of sugars into the bloodstream, which for a diabetic is dangerous. Eating fresh ripe whole raw organic fruit, even those that are sweet, have soluble fibers in them, that slow down and regulate the entry of sugar into the bloo

Your friend is very sick. She is allergic to the raw foods, but it is possible for her health to be restored. She might want to find some water fasting therapists, say like Dr Doug Graham or Dr Vivian Vetrano or some other supervised fasting clinic, and allow herself to fast until her body heals. During her re-alimentation phase she can find out what foods do and don't work after her body has ha

amanda, For the most part, just eat what feels good to you. If you eat mostly fruits and vegetables, and a small amounts of fats, you'll be pretty healthy. You can use a nutritional calculator like fitday or nutridiary to see if you are getting enough calories, enough vitamins and minerals, and to make sure your fat percentages are reasonable (say under 20% calories from fat). The only thi

You are to be congratulated for choosing to look at cleaning up your diet at such a young age. This shows a great amount of consciousness on your part. Also, you proposed cleanse looks quite good. You might want to put the daily menu into a nutritional calculator like fitday or nutridiary to make sure you are getting all your vitamins, and that the fat content is under 20%, or for an even bet

I lost some weight when I first went raw, and I had some loose skin around my belly. Over time, my body reabsorbed all this extra skin. If you want to lose the skin rapidly, try going on a supervised water fast for a week or two.
