Lettuce (say like Romaine) is close to 50% protein in terms of percentage of calories. Thats about as high as raw meat.

Jen, Welcome to the raw diet! You are certainly in for quite an adventure. I wouldn't worry about the detox though, it will come when your body has built up an energy reserve so that it can do its housekeeping.

Anna, It looks like you diet is about 1500 calories, but about 900 of the calories are coming from fat. This makes your diet about 60% fat. The cup of almonds are 650 calories, the avocado is about 300 calories. You might try cutting out the almond milk and eat a half of an avocado rather than a whole one. With this much fat in your diet, you will be taxing your liver, especially if it feel

It may be that the lack of chewing of the blended foods has impaired your digestion. Saliva plays a very important part of food digestion, and if you are swallowing without chewing the saliva doesn't get a chance to mix in. Try chewing the blended food thoroughly, not to break it down per se, as it is already broken down, but to allow your saliva to mix in with the blended foods.

I personally don't see the advantage of juicing over eating the foods that you plan to juice (except for wheatgrass, which is not food for humans). It definitely cost most to juice greens that it does to eat them. Same with fruit. If a person on the raw food diet is feeling sick, most of them can feel better simply by not eating any fat for a few days, rather than juice fasting. Even better

Hi mallow, It looks like you are eat mostly fruit at this point. If so, are you practicing food combining or mono-eating? For eating fruit, this is pretty important. If you are unfamiliar with food combining, it is a practice of eating similar fruits with one-another. There are sweet fruit like bananas, mangos, figs; acid fruits like citrus, pineapple; subacid fruits like strawberries, appl

Here are some disadvantages of juicing: 1. Juicing is expensive. If you are juicing greens and fruit, you are throwing away a very important and essential nutrient: fiber. Without fiber your alimentary canal will get clogged. Also, the fiber that you are throwing away help make you feel full, and because you are throwing this away, it takes more juice to feel full than the equivalent amount of

Also provide us with the times you eat these meals, and what a typical day of eating would loo

I agree with the ideas that lisa and Basia suggested. When I was first going from SAD to raw, my body could handle all those fatty combo-a-bombo meals. But over time, as my body began to heal from the excesses of the SAD diet, eating those gourmet fatty rich meals at every meal began to take its toll, and I was naturally moved towards eating simpler foods. Still, I like to indulge every so often

Certainly there are issues of either deficiencies or over eating of certain substances, whether it be fruit or fat. But there is also a psychological/emotional/spiritual issue at work as to why given the same set of circumstances, one person will heal and another will get sicker. One of the things that happens on the raw diet is that a person has access to more energy for their healing (assumi
