Hello all, I had my first colonic done the other day and thought I'd post my experience for those interested in learning what one is like. I've been raw for about 5 years and the lady performing my colonic said it was the best colonic she's given in her 25years of performing them, I guess I am pretty clean after all these years. I found it rather awkward and will probably never do it again. Afte

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the matter. I have been doing research but didn't think it hurt to ask other people feelings on the topic, though I've actually been doing more research on genital warts itself, and just ran across the vaccine. JEN

I just read about there being a vaccine for the HPV virus. I've heard so much controversy over taking vaccines that I wonder how safe and necessary it would be to get vaccinated against this virus. What do people think? Please share your ideas on the topic. Thanks JEN

Thanks for the advice and linking the full story, Tamukha. I bought my plants from whole foods and the farmers market so I am hoping they are pesticide free and I will have to invest in some natural pots. What a shock it was when I first read this article. I feel better now, though I will probably stick to golden pothos and rubber plants which seem a little safer. Klandestine- I didn't know pe

The article is on page 23 of 'natural awakenings" New York Magazine. Their website is NaturalAwakeningsNYC.com. Yes I too read that both the peace lilly and snake plants were great for cleaning air, which is why I bought them. I am a bit perplexed at this point.

I just read an article in 'Natural Awakenings NYC" magazine about a recent study done by the American Source for Horticultural Science, 2009 stating that certain plants release harmful gasses into the air instead of sucking up harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and breathing out oxygen like most plants do. Two of the plants they listed are the peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii Regel)

I did get around to making the almond butter using my food processor. Im just a little worried that if I run it for 12 minutes straight every week, it is going to collapse. Does any know of an actual nut butter machine that works well? Thanks. By the way homemade almond butter taste ten times better then the store bought version. JEN

That's a shame :/ however I would throw it out and start a fresh batch. My mom says it depends on how clean your kitchen is haha. We in manhattan would probably chuck it.

Hi Trive, I too try not to over do it on the fats which is really easy to do in cold weather. Instead of using oil for my dressing which has caused me to break out in the past, I've been blending up a tablespoon of tahini with lemon juice and garlic. As you know a little fat is okay, and Dr. Graham uses tahini in some of his 80-10-10 recipes. Here's a link you may find interesting . It is a websi

Hello, I have a recipe here from Renee Loux Underkoffeler's recipe book, for snow peas. I haven't tried it but the recipies of hers that I have tried turned out amazing. Szechuan Snow Peas makes 2-4 servings. This spicy dish of sweet snow peas can also be made with sugar snap peas. Any dried spicy pepper can be used if Szechuan pepper is not available. 4 cups fresh snow peas 1 clove garl

Hello, I use South River miso. It's organic, traditionally wood-fired and unpasteurized. I usually buy their Azuki bean or Chickpea flavors at my local health food store but I know it comes in about three or four other flavors. I then chop some nori and scallions up and let it warm on the stove just to fingers touch. You should be able to find it online, though I don't have a website to purchase

Hello all, I babysit part time for 18 month old twins and before i leave work i make and serve dinner to them and their two older brothers ages 6 & 8. The babies have no problem eating veggies but I find that the older boys are eating less and less of them. I'm raw vegan their family isn't but they still need their daily serving of veggies. How are some of you parents preparing vegetables for

Congratulations on your new blender. I think you will find lots of enjoyment from it. The two main recipes Ive been using this month are: banana frozen fruit smoothie which is a couple bananas, some frozen fruit, whichever your in the mood for, a juicy fruit like grapes or some OJ and some fresh fruit again from your choosing. this makes an excellent smoothie. Ive been using fresh blueberries

What an interesting subject. I heard of this as therapy for skin and health many years ago as a young girl and like everyone else thougt it was gross. Then I heard it again a few years ago, I think at a lecture with David Jubb and decided to try it, it was well gross. One thing I have noticed though, is that if you are really well hydrated your urine is as clear as water and has no smell or taste

Hey all, I was just wondering what everyone is planning for the upcoming holidays. In particular I'm curious to know if there's anything fantastic going on in New York City during Christmas or even any really good restaurants that are sure to be open Christmas day. Thanks JEN

While it sounds so much more fun to make my own treats and wrap them up in cute little wrappers your right, I reamember always being told as a kid 'it's safe only to eat what's in a wrapper'. Matthew Kenney & Sarma Melngailis have one in their book 'Raw food, real world'. I haven't tried it out but I have tried the manna bread in another recipie and it came out good. Crunchy Honey Nut Butter and Jam Sandwhich (Makes 4 Sandwhiches) (From the book) Raw almond butter on its own is a bit to runny to hold up in a sandwhich, Mixing it with raw honey, which should always be solid

Hello there, goneraw.com has an excellent collection of recipies posted by people daily. This is one I found there . It's basically spiralized daikon with a topping. I've been using my own combo of tahini, nama shoyu, and a little agave. Hope this helps! Jen

Hello! Growing up in an italian home I grew up eating pasta and that was definatly one of the foods I missed while transitioning to the living food diet. There are several different ways to make noodles using veggies or coconut. Most people will recommend the Saladacco/Spiral Slicer for making stuff like zucchini and squash pasta, but I never could get the darned thing to work! and ended up getti

I recently got an email from Matt Monarch and it had this interesting article in it on juicing. Here's the link to the article if anyone is interested. Since getting this email I decided to do bit of juicing and have had excellent results these last couple of days. I've been following the 80-10-10 diet and eating whole foods blended in smoothies or eaten in salads but the addition of juices doe

Hi there, funny you should ask because at almost every raw resturant I've been to they offer un-cooking classes. Jubb's Longevity, 508 E. 12th St., (212) 353 5000 is one, he even lets most people apprentice in his shop! which looks like alot of fun though it's a small shop. Quintessence @ East Village 263 E 10th Street (btw. Ave A & 1st Ave)NYC(646) 654-1823, used to have raw food

Not sure where you are posting from, but if in New york city, Westerly health food store at 54th & 8th carries a few different varieties of raw olives in the back of the store where they have a raw deli. I've seen some of sunfood nutrition's black olives there and the brand posted in that first website. Good luck on your olive hunt!

Here's a good web site that has a couple of forum topics dedicated to urine therapy 'curezone.com'. Im curious if it is true that urine contains vitamin b12? I read this maybe a month ago on one of the raw food forums but wasn't sure of the source & if it was true. If anyone could clarify this it would be most appreciated. I myself have not seen noticable changes from drinking urine, though i
