I add unground flax seeds to warm green smoothies without fruit (soups), I think it makes it more satisfying and filling.

So why does milk contain an addictive substance? it's s

I thought Brian looked OK. The video said something about fruit sugars and the cells but that was talking about cancer patients and I know that once someone has cancer, eating massive ammounts of concentrated fruit can be counter-productive. I'm thinking of Eydie Mae and when her tumor started hurting again after she BINGED on dates for a day or two. Then she stopped that and went back to energy

So what does he reccomend eating in detail? Here is a list of menus and it looks like blended/juiced greens and vegetables with some token fruit here and there. But he is recommending 5 eating times per day? These menus came out of a book published last year. That's so different from what the poster Paul Nison is saying, I'm wondering if this is actually Paul Nison posting.

What affects the ph of the body is the ash of the food and those lists of food are tabulating the ph value of the ash of the food. Ash is actually listed in nutritional databases but they don't tell you the ph value of the ash. baking soda has a whopping 36 g of ash per 100g sample apple cider vinegar has 170mg of ash per 100g sample Lemons and watermellon are some of the most alkali

This is old news but I'm reading it for the first time so it might be interesting to others. By Fintan Dunne Research, Kathy Mc Mahon From eionews.addr.com/organop.htm 12-16-00 Pharmaceutical interests in the UK are ignoring new scientific research that shows the insecticide used in the UK government's own warble-fly campaigns triggered the surge of 'Mad Cow' disease. I was reading the article and the thought struck me that animals that are planteaters, eat throughout the day, but carnivores gorge after a kill, so eating one meal a day mimics carnivores rather than herbivores. However, I could fathom eating throughout the day but eating one meal that had the heavy concentrated stuff and having the rest be light meals. From my reading the heavy meal is supp

From a Raw Family newsletter. Sergei gets a new mattress for his birthday, and then packs it up and returns it the next day and builds himself a plywood bed. I wonder if it has a pad of any kind on it or if he sleeps right on the wood itself. "Sleep on a hard surface: our bodies need to stretch out at night. All the bones and joints can only stretch out when we lay on hard surface

From the Raw Family website, anyone buy this yet? I was just wondering if it gets into the fact that some foods are physically addictive. Thanks! "In this intriguing documentary, Valya interviews health experts, authors, teachers, psychologists, children, and random people on the street. The second half of this film looks at the reasons why children, loved ones, and friends often re

Oops, I forgot grapferuit pectin. It absorbs cholesterol. Grapefruit contains pectin (found in the pulp/rind), a form of soluble fibre that can bind to cholesterol. In a 16-week double-blind, crossover (placebo or pectin) study using 27 human volunteers screened to be at medium to high risk for coronary heart disease due to hypercholesterolemia, grapefruit pectin supplementation decreased plas

That was a very cool article Debbie, thanks for posting a link to it! So raw food might increase ones lifespan by about a decade! That's something to look forward to, even though, to answer my own question, I would still be into raw food even if it hypothetically shortened my lifespan by a year. I learned a lot about the raw food leaders of previous generations too, that I didn't know before!

From my reading on blood pressure medications, they may fix the problem short-term but have disastous results later. One type, Beta Blockers, will reduce blood presure by weakening the heart, eventually, this causes congestive heart failure. Another type, Calcium Channel Blockers lower the blood pressure and relax artery walls by blocking the entrance of calcium into the cells, but the h

A good "snapshot" of the raw food community 30+ years ago is Eydie Mae Hunsberger's "How I Conquered Cancer Naturally". She describes going to Ann Wigmores 2 week course and my impression is that about 10-20 other people took the course as well. My impression is that the average age of those people would be about 40, Eydie Mae herself had two grown children at the time and see

Thanks everyone. That's what I thought, people are more into the current problems than, thinking about years from now. I wonder what happens to the old raw foodists. My theory is that once the people that they grew up with start to pass over and they feel left alone, they just stop caring about diet. Or let's put it this way, Alissa Cohen has an "over 50" forum on her site but no "

My favorite recipe is chopped avocados and tomatos, just that. The fatty avocado combined with the tomato gives a better simulation of pizza (fatty cheese and tomato) than dehydrated pizza, (in my opinion of course). I've been using hottish water to make my green smoothies and they come out like a warm soup! It's kind of hard to find the right temp of water to use since the greens cool the wat

I'm just trying to weigh which is more important to people, the promise of an extended life or the relief of symtpoms in the present. My theory is that, while people may point to long-lived raw fooders to convince sceptics, it's actually more important to feel better now that to live long. I got thinking that maybe I should ask the question a different way. If raw foods SHORTENED your lifespan

I was just wondering how much the promise of longevity motivates people to do raw food. Since I don't think that there is anyone over 70 on this board, and I don't know of any really old folks on any other board (maybe they are just not into computers or something) the only longlived raw fooders that I can point to are the ones who have written books. So the question is: If raw food didn't

I've heard parsley described as being a "mutivitamin" because it has has so many nutrients, like Vitamin K! I use it as a leafy green in blended soups/smoothies. BTW I use the stems too but I have to cut them into chunks with a scissors first, because they wrap around the blade in my blender.

Tell her that cooking protein destroys it, so for that and other reasons the protein RDAs were doubled. So if you are not destroying your protein by heating it, you really don't need to worry about protein intakes as much as SADers. Ironic isn't it, you might be ASSIMILATING more protein than the folks who are asking you where you get your protein from. However, rapid diet changes do cause protei
