What kinds of food are you craving and succumbing to? I have dealt with the same issues. First of all, don't be depressed about it. The best part about being in your situation is that you get to start getting better and better. Everything you've put into your mouth that you feel bad about is water under the bridge. Stop thinking about it. From here on out, you control what you eat and wha

I too have horrible brain fog and debilitating fatigue. Once or twice a day I'd have horrible spells of overwhelming sleepiness. I have been known to crawl in the backseat of my car and take a nap if I was away from home. I felt sick all the time, yet, when I went to the doctor to see what was wrong with me, nothing ever showed up in tests. I was healthy as a horse, according to my doctor. So

Like with cooked foods, you have to experiment with raw flavors and textures that your baby likes. To my dismay, my 18 month old would never touch avocado or most sweet fruits. But she loves sliced red peppers, grated broccoli, baby carrots, whole apples--but only in those states. She would never eat shredded carrots, for instance. She won't touch a whole broccoli floret. She likes orange sl

I don't know about alcohol, but going raw has made me completely lose all desire for cigarettes. It's very strange. I've white-knuckled it in regards to smoking on and off for years. Going raw was the first time I'd ever just stopped wanting cigarettes.

Hmm... I drink Yerba Mate in the morning as a sub for coffee. I thought that it was probably still kinda bad for me, but I hope what you say is right. I love Yerba Mate.

I don't know how much the macrobiotic theory applies these days. I was raised on bananas that were flown in from half-way across the world, so I feel pretty adapted to them. People also move around so much. My parents are from Europe, I was raised in Northern California, currently live in Southern California. Which locality am I adapted to? I don't know, I'm all for buying locally grown pr

Connie Boo, I heard that too, how a woman claimed to be ovulating but not menstruating. Can someone explain that too me? I thought the point of menstruation was to expell the unfertilized egg and make room for the new ovum. Wouldn't she just have a huge backlog of ova?

I don't have answers to your questions, but whenever I eat bananas I get heartburn too. I can't explain it. Try cutting out bananas for awhile and see if you feel better.

I just went to his restaurant in L.A. a few days ago and it was AWESOME! Even my super carnivore hubby liked it.

I think it's pretty clear that the better you take care of yourself during your pregnancy and otherwise, the better you will look. I've heard that going raw can help skin regain some elasticity. Alot of people who've lost tons of weight on raw can attest that their skin has shrunk back down whereas cooked dieters have had to get tummy tucks.

You can often buy young coconuts at the grocery store. I know Whole Foods carries them, at least here in L.A.--so I imagine S.D. as well.

Growing up, most dinners were procurred from the drive-thru at either Jack in the Box or Taco Bell. If mom cooked it was fried pork chops and some de-frosted veggie-product. Maybe I would eat a raw apple or something. Honestly, I don't remember, but it was bad. Lots of TV dinners, Hot Pockets, candy. I never had diagnosable health problems, but looking back I had pretty bad childhood depressi

I have never noticed that I have blood sugar problems, but maybe...I wouldn't be surprised. It's not almost evening and I still feel woozy. And I have a headache.

A really bad thing happened this morning. So, I'm not 100% raw yet. Or even 100% vegan--Over the past month, as I've been trying to transition and improve my diet, I've had a tiny bit of dairy a few times. My cooked foods have included mainly steamed veggies and small amounts of whole grains. Anyway, this morning I had some carrot juice, 1 banana, a few strawberries and 1/2 an apple. A

Learningtofly, It's called Cru in Silverlake--www.crusilverlake.com It's the only raw restaurant on the Eastside that I can think of--maybe there are more but I haven't heard of them. I haven't even checked out Juliano's yet, but then again is AAAALLL the way in Santa Monica lol!

That doesn't seem right to me. I think adding more raw food to your diet and eliminating more processed food and animal products will do anyone alot of good. I'm not 100% yet as I'm still breastfeeding so I'm transitioning very slowly, but I can tell you that I feel much better at 70%-ish raw than I did before I started thinking about raw. In the past month, I've lost 7 lbs, I have bounds

Yeah, I found a website selling boards you attach to the seat of your toilet to make it squat-friendly, lol! I'm going to have to get used to that idea. That's a little much--even for me.

I've worked on and off as a public broadcasting producer (radio and tv). Right now I'm currently off and spending my time as a stay-at-home mom to my 17 month old daughter. I really want to start working again and I will, hopefully, in a couple months. Uma and Troysantos, I spend time at the LA Zen Center. I'm not as involved as I'd like, but I've been to several workshops there. I'd love

Oh no! I don't have any friends who are vegetarians. Most of my closest friends eat meat, smoke cigarettes, drink tons of alcohol, etc... At the current moment I'm facing some ridicule amongst my friends and also my husband. My friends say I have an eating disorder, lol! This is despite the fact that they are agog at how good I've been looking lately!!! So, I'm in the market for some new fr

When I eat garlic, I get the mad farts (sorry TMI!). But I do think there's a place for garlic and onions medicinally. Many people have used them successfully to treat minor parasitic infections. I don't think it's bad. But, overall, I do think they're irritating to the system.

Interesting article. Coconutcream, scroll down to the end section "Beyond Nutritionism" and it pretty much sums up the article. Don't eat food your great-great-grandmother wouldn't recognize. Don't simply pay attention to nutrients in food, pay attention to your relationship with food. Anything that comes in a box touting its nutritional superiority is most likely full-of-it. F

I haven't read the whole book--just flipped through it at the store--but it seems to me like the book is geared to the SADieter who's never heard of raw food before. She includes meat in her transition diet but ranks it very low on her list of "life energy foods."

New Life on Main st. in Venice/Santa Monica is pretty good. At least that's where I would shop when I lived down there. Now that I live on the eastside I shop at Whole Foods or the Nature Mart in Los Feliz.

I'm just getting started with raw and I'm not at 100% yet but I'm getting there. I started because for many years I have felt so low energy. I've gained some weight, I look tired and bedraggled all the time. I'm susceptible to drinking too much, smoking cigarettes, binging on Ben & Jerry's, etc... Then I had a baby. The energy it takes to care for a baby is insane and I couldn't keep u

So, I'm picking up my poor pug tomorrow from the animal hospital after having had surgery to remove a giant stone from her bladder. I had been giving her home made raw food for awhile, but stopped after the vet told me salomonella could make her sick. I'm thinking raw would still be better. But how do I avoid food-borne illnesses in packaged raw meat? Thanks!

Thanks for the replies! I'm intersted to see how other families work. I'm trying to get into the habbit of not cooking the veggies I give my daughter. She used to eat only cooked veggies because, I guess, that's what you're "told" to do, lol! Also, I guess they're easier to eat when you have no teeth. She's been eating alot of raw carrots, apples, berries, bananas, cucumbers.
