Oh, no, that librarian is wrong! What a shame! I regularly go to the Walker, Central, East Lake, and Franklin, and request books from others as well. Here, do this: --Go to --For your search, type in "raw foods" under "Subject" and you will get 20 results. If you do "raw food diet" you will get only 14. I don't know if it all overlaps or not. There are no DVDs,

You're in Minneapolis? I live in Minneapolis and there are many books on raw foods at the library-Green for Life, Juliano's Raw, Raw Food Real World, Ani Phyo's book, Ann Wigmore, lots of older ones, etc. You can request books that have been checked out or are at other libraries, and even request that they buy a certain book (I did this for a DVD once. It took time but they did get it and I wa

I would like to see someone do it! Not to see them fail or show up Brian, but out of curiosity.

I went to a talk by Dr. T last night, the raw foodist who founded the restaurant Ecopolitan in Minneapolis. He was talking about the importance of reproducibility in tests, whether tests to rule out pathology or assess health. He had a problem with iridology (and other types of medicine) because he suspects it not to be reproducable, that if you go to three different ones, they will tell you thre

Too bad, it looks like a nice place but I don't think taking away sweet fruit would be beneficial to my health. Maybe a visit instead of a stay. And secretly bring contraband!

Suvine, I would think I would gain weight, too, eating all those nuts and oils. Other peopel don't? Maybe they are coming from SAD. Do they really not let you have any fruits? What if you don't think you have Candida? Love the pictures.

Thank you for asking this. I LOVE the variety of answers and wisdom that has come up; this is a thread to be bookmarked. I don't have anything new to add, so I won't, except to say--a cup of steamed kale is probably healthier than a cup (or more!) of really raw cashews. So no reason to be dogmatic, just work towards going in the right direction, for everything.

This is a good question, I don't even know where I'd start looking for a place to go to--how do you even find a place, can you ask a normal doctor to do it?

mono--one stero--eating more than one kind of fruit at a time Correct me if I'm wrong? I think it makes sense, like "raw" might be just "high-raw", "fruit" could be mostly fruit. As long as the non-fruit isn't liver or french fries or something, no big deal.

I don't see how rice syrup could be anything but cooked. Only sprouted rice, and flours made from this, would be raw.

Or... what if you're going from the northern US to Ecuador/Peru for the summer and want to *prevent* parasites? I'll swallow cloves of garlic if I have to, but I'd rather not.

My colonic was like when I started taking flax seed---except with the flax it was a lot cheaper and I could do it everyday! So I was underwhelmed by what came out, even though it was a lot.

This sounds like a classic case of a simple stomach "bug"--food poisoning in fact. It's bound to happen from time to time, hopefully less often as your immune system gets stronger. Maybe the sprouts grew extra bacteria, who knows? I wouldn't read too much into it.

Good point, pakd4fun. Coco, I understand where you are coming from as well. I'm glad the coco in the smoothies is working for you. I am thinking I don't have the right digestion or metabolism for it--I had some cacao coconut cream (the oil and meat combined) the other day and felt so sick, I think I can tolerate only small amounts. It wasn't the cacao because I've had that plenty of times. But th

Why would you want to fast without water? Just asking, I'd never heard of people doing it. One can obviously live for much longer without food than water, and water is needed for many bodily processes.

Yeah, saying that lighter eyes happen when you're healthier is kinda weird. Maybe some people's eyes lighten, okay, but should someone with darker skin feel bad because their eyes match their coloring? That's not unhealthy... that's how human colors work!

What I have heard to be safe--and what local health food stores around me sell--are lentils, aduki, green peas, and chickpeas. I know my local raw restaurant uses chickpeas and lentils.

This is a place to discuss the raw vegan diet. You can discuss your raw diet in other locations. But most people are NOT vegan, and we want a place to interact with other vegans. We don't want to discuss or debate here, there are plenty of places for that.

I'm 24 and rarely drink but feel too young to swear it off completely. I like shots with fresh squeezed juice, or lime and stevia. Better than high fructose garbage. Better one poison than two!

Thank you SO much for sharing this. I have felt a little down lately--long, cold winter (lack of sun, being stuck inside), have a few more months stuck at my job, figuring out a balance in my diet. But I have had glimpses of this sort of thing, through diet, as well as yoga and meditation. Life is beautiful and wonderful and we can be happy for NO reason. We can delight in the feel of mango juice
