That sounds good, I like the idea of filling with raw nutrients. If you can be consistent, starting off your day with raw food (delicious fruit), you will be doing so much for your health and it can be a stepping stone for the rest of your journey. Maybe just try and do 100% raw for breakfast and not beat yourself up if it doesn't go like planned after that--just having a minimum that you can fee

Yes, fasting slows the metabolism. That's why it's not recommended for weight loss. I would also hold off on the fat--I would say you aren't really fasting then, just eating much less than normal. Don't forget that most toxins are fat-soluble. You can stop fasting whe it feels right--I think it makes sense to do several short fasts before doing a longer fast. Just like a new runner doesn't

It will be SO much easier to resist this one than to start and then resist. Do anything else, even if you have to spend a little more than normal to get an outfit you've wanted, or whatever, take some kind of break to give yourself space, so you can decide what you really want to do.

Sadly, the numbers seem to hold true to me and I am gaining weight, overeating when I'm experiencing cabin fever (March apparently isn't spring yet in the north)--though maybe I would have gained much more were I not eating raw vegan. I guess that's the bright side of things. How else could I eat all day and take a month to gain five pounds?! Not on SAD.

Phantom, that is a beautiful dream. Sapphire, good point about Hitler. Also, I understand what you are saying about a murdered love one--I still don't think a state-sponsored death penalty is a good idea, but I know that some people close to me would take matters into their own hands if anything horrible happened to me. That doesn't mean it is the right choice, but it is understandable. Int

I think the death penalty is a completely different issue. I am against it, but the circumstances are so different--killing an innocent, completely sentient animal when not necessary is so easily wrong. I also want to note--eating meat does affect others, not just ourselves. I don't preach because it's not effective. But it is a choice that affects others, "live and let live" is only so

I'm sorry you are suffering so much. Maybe get yourself some nice yummy herbal tea--not technically raw, but may help loosen things up a little. I also like using a Neti pot to clean things out when the sinuses are giving me a rough time. It should help speed up the cleaning your body is doing (no matter what the root cause is).

Thanks for the analysis. I think getting some in is important, but lately I've been stressing out about if I was getting enough, or if there was a limit to how much we need--this puts things into perspective.

That's sweet, I always admire strong women (trying to be one myself) Trainers should probably be careful to individualize. As it is, you usually can't take their nutrition advice at ALL.

I was vegetarian when my boyfriend and I started dating. He wouldn't eat meat before we kissed, which I appreciated. Besides that, I just did my thing and he did his--I knew that you can't force change on other people so I never tried. He learned a lot about vegetarian food just by watching me eat, including that it can be a complete tasty meal! After over two years of being together, he was

Some good articles from a fitness blog: On abs-- On strength-training-- Highly recommended for women. Women don't bulk up, but may appear to as muscle starts to push fat out. Lower body fat%, lower excess body fat.

I will too! Wish I could gain somewhere else for once, but it's nice to know I didn't do anything "wrong" and it CAN still come off.

One opinion--a water-only fast will bring greater cleansing. Cayenne can be abrasive on the stomach and the maple syrup prevents the ketosis which is muscle-sparing in longer fasts.

Where we store and lose fat is completely genetic, much more than how easily we gain or lose overall. I also gain first and lose last in the stomach so I understand. I have been overeating on fats lately and it all went to my belly. But the only thing you can do is lose fat, and eventually, when your body fat % gets low enough, you will lose the tummy fat. In addition to a clean diet, strength tr

UtopianLife, that's a good point. I have quite a few utilitarian vegan friends, and they always maintain that a simple way to reduce suffering to others to to cut out eggs and then dairy and then meat, not in that order. Not to start a debate! It's just interesting, kind of counter-intuitive. But, yes, it has to do with the amount of suffering of the sentient animals in the factory farms. I suppo

Fruitarian One has a good video on this--he says as long as you get back up and keep trying, you haven't failed at all. He has a lot of encouraging videos, I would encourage you to do a search on youtube. Maybe you need smaller, more acheivable goals. You were able to do it all at once initally, maybe to give you a taste of what your final goals are. But it may take some time to make it a sust

Things were also very different when Jesus was around... why do it when you don't have to? And I'm sure there weren't concerns like overfishing, factory farms, global warming and all these other issues that are now connected to meat eating. Very different context.

The food allergy thing is kinda true... before I went vegan, one reason I did (aside from factory farms, ethical reasons) is that I was eating dairy very seldomly and whenever I did, it made me sick. Fruit plain, outside of a smoothie is also wonderful for breakfast

Well, maybe you are just detoxing still. Seeing as you were on all those meds before, you might still be working that out. I also wonder if it's possible that you have a grain allergy or sensitivity?

I know refusing food can be rude in some cultures... but forcing food on people can also be rude in some cultures. I am very comfortable saying no--after all, when two cultures mix, there has to be compromise, and it is much easier for someone to not do/give something, than to put something in one's body that will make them sick. You do not have to be 100% raw to feel sick after eating unhealthy

Tom Billings has been discussed before, if you do a search for that name you will find some interesting discussion. It comes down to what we say about always listening to your body. Tom had signs that the diet was not working for him but ignored them for the sake of following an ideal his mind had created. We bring whatever psychological issues we have with us, to whatever diet we follow. In t

I am interested in what the precise definition of "overeating" is in this case. I would think it would be eating beyond satiation, to the point of mild or severe discomfort. And this would differ on the person--their metabolism, size, and activity level. And why couldn't a large, very active person eat 20 bananas? I am open to different ideas here, but I feel this isn't being explained
