I want to add that if you are a boy, I bet you will be able to gain a lot of muscle eating cleanly and keeping fasts to short spurts as suggested. Good luck!

Hi Jmann! I am 5'3" also! Small-framed, and thin but weighing a few more than you But in my mid-20s--and my hips didn't grow until I was 20, so keep in mind that you may still need to grow in ways you wouldn't expect (all of a sudden my pants didn't fit! It was bizarre after over 5 years of being at the same height). My roommate was tiny and petite and all set to be a ballet dancer--unti

if your worst vice is kidney beans, you are doing better than over 99% of the population. I say, keep enjoying them until the desire falls away. I wouldn't say that for french fries or hamburgers, but beans? I think you'll be okay.

I don't believe in "God" per se... but the idea of a God living in the sun is beautiful imagery, I think. God in the sun with coconuts free and available to all! (Yes, I reallllly miss summer). Stoner, I like your writing, so inspired! But I still hope Suvine will keep gracing us with her pictures of fruit salads

I am also wondering what your height and frame size are... you are still growing, and even though you have gained weight, you might not have a lot of weight to spare. As a female, I didn't grow height-wise after 15, but I did still have to fill out (hips and such). DZM has great advice--focus on make small changes you can maintain, these changes will bring the greatest health to you. This is f

Englightenment now--I'm curious! Can you PM me, too? I have had times when I felt like this, though I just slowly up fats so I'm not going back and forth between extremes. Anyway, it's okay if your theory is nuts, I won't judge

China has horrible environmental regulations, so I'm generally very afraid of anything from there that isn't organic (more for earth reasons even more than my health)...but if you're buying conventional anyways from a place like Whole Foods, you may as well not get ripped off. I thought I heard gojis were okay, I wish someone had more info.

I agree with Lee--who needs all that. I'm not all against supplements, but they get pretty silly pretty quickly.

I *did* get pregnant doing the Billings Method... could have been my error, but everyone I talked to about it said I "couldn't" have gotten pregnant then. I guess I was an extremely fertile person then. I would use it still 1) in conjunction with another method or 2) if getting accidentally pregnant was okay (even if not preferred). Standalone, no way, not worth the risk. Synthetic h

The Billings Method is a great book. But I got pregnant when I was absolutely not supposed to be able to, so I would combine it with another method, like withdrawl (not a method alone, but can't hurt!) or polyuruthane/latex/other condoms.

I had awful, awful cramps until I cut out all refined sugar from my diet--non-raw candies. I actually discovered this by accident, I was too poor to buy sweets So it helped me take my diet to a new level. I really do see white suagr as evil since I know it caused my cramps. So the raw diet should help substantially. We are lucky to menstruate since it is a form of detox. But I know how awful

I get mine from Whole Foods, they are in open refrigeation along with other produce and are thick and sticky. Ocasionally there are dried-out ones that are very hard.

Bryan, your explanation makes a lot of sense to me, thank you for sharing it. I have always thought it seemed like somewhat of an unnatural food, but have enjoyed it without problems. But I also overeat often. As I get healthier, I expect to gradually stop enjoying it, and then I will stop using it completely. It's nice to know what to look for!

I like the juice idea, or you could do a mono-fruit fast--you would get plenty of nutrients for the baby and it wouldn't be too strong.

I answered this where you asked in the other thread. Also--bananas can't be juiced, they don't have enough water. Greens are blended if you want a smoothie and juiced if you want juice. Depends on what you want--do you want the fiber? Do you want a concentrated shot of greens?

When you are new to green smoothies, you should basically be starting out with a fruit smoothie that you add a small amount of greens to, and then gradually increase the amount of greens as you get used to it. A whole bag is probably way too much for a newbie, unless you are very used to greens. The whole thing is blended. No juice. That kind of sounds gross to me, I had never heard of doing i

Blenders need some liquid--the Vitamix doesn't need as much as the cheapies, but it still needs some. Food processors don't work well with liquid--everything kind of goes under the blades. They are better for solid things, nothing more liquidy than a pudding (they do make puddings well). They are two different things.

That was a cool article. But I agree with pakd4fun, part of the reason I eat raw is out of laziness! A meal of cucumbers, tomatoes, and a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit doesn't need ANY prep, half the time I don't even chop them up

That is a great reminder, looking at tendencies instead of numbers and "results". And I should be grateful, my diet and overeating have come so far, I'm healthy and at a healthy weight. I just need to keep refining and learning what works for me, and know I can make it through and past those times when I want to keep eating.

It sounds like you are doing really great then, and I love that you said your motivation was pure health. If you can feel your centeredness, I don't doubt it for a minute that this was the right decision for you. A water fast is strong, but it can also be inspiring and powerful because of that. Peace.

If you were on a healthy diet before you water fast, you will have a good reserve of nutrients in your tissues, so you will be fine not eating for awhile. However, if that is not the case, you don't have nutrients already and you're not getting nutrients (because you're not eating)--this can do permanent damage to your tissues (essentially, starvation), and you might not know until too late. After reading the responses and thinking about it, I had a revelation. I am going through a lot of self-study and development, and I believe that my overeating is a **way of grounding myself** while I go through this process (similar to slowing a detox with heavier foods). So it's not directly emotional, but indirectly related. This is an incredible realization. This makes me realize: -some

Dr. Joel Fuhrman has a book called Eating and Fasting for Health and Wellness, it is the only book on therapeutic fasting by a medical doctor and a really great resource. I am a little concerned that you do not have the proper nutrient reserves to fast for extended periods, since you have fallen off raw. I can see detox being pretty severe as well. Why not break the fast, practice eating healt

Thank you for your thoughtful replies and encouragement, and yes, I love David's approach. It's for sure appetite and not hunger, I am not craving anything. I just like to eat sometimes, and I am trying to really develop the ability to hear my body saying, "I'm full, leave me alone for awhile!" Part of it is probably cabin fever--there is an emptiness, because when it's so cold and you'

I have slowly been improving my diet from SAD vegetarian to effortlessly high-raw vegan (non-raw being steamed veggies, legumes, and grains only rarely) over the past seven years (I'm 24)--so I feel pretty good about the WHAT of my diet. Lots of greens and fresh fruit, limited daily fat for energy/satiety. But I've always been somewhat of a recreational eater. Not emotional so much (if anythin
