The book is junk--there are other blood types besides the classic four and negative/positive--those are not discussed. It is very complex, of course, that's why they don't really know how you should eat based on blood type(s).

Ah, yes, that was me that mentioned that book, my mom read it when newly pregnant with me. You know, she was also newly with my dad, who is not American, and he cooked for her. Though not anywhere near raw, he cooked "real-food" dishes with meat, beans, and veggies, and rice. They ate fruit. It was probably light years away from her previous SAD eating. Also, being newly in love, she pr

Beets are beautiful, I eat them for that alone! But maybe try something easy like beet juice first.

I have heard of certain shiatsu-type techniques helping with this, but I don't know how much.

Question for low-fat raw-ers-- Are you comfortable with oil-pulling? Do you think that spitting it out is enough, it doesn't get absorbed? It looks like this is the case but I want to be sure. I am not 811 but I rarely consume oil/refined fat. It doesn't make me feel good and I gain weight real fast with it; it is a refined food. So any opinions, even if you are not low-fat, would be apprec

gliving.tv had a video from the lady from Kookie Karma, and she made raw oatmeal cookies. I don't remember the exact recipe, but I processed together soaked oat groats with dates and sunflower seeds and it was great. You could add raisins, or omit the seeds and form little balls. I didn't dehydrate and they were sooo good. Can add cinnamon too of course.

For transition/detox-- Sprouted grains (rolled oats are steamed) with nut mylk and berries, sprouted legumes, dried fruit with nut butter, flax crackers (make in dehydrator!), high-protein seeds like hemp/sunflower/pumpkin. Chia seeds are great for satiety, you can buy them online and add them soaked (they make a gel) to green smoothies/puddings.

It's like the "vegetarians" who say they're vegetarian only so they can decline another category of food, but would start eating meat again in recovery, or if it somehow fits in with the ea

I have broken out from too many nuts. At this point it is probably detox, and lots of nuts are helping you transition (which is good!)...but just wanted to throw that out there for later, in case it continues. But isn't it great to get all that stuff out of you?

When I made pumpkin seed butter, my K-Tec started smelling funny because it took so long. And it wasn't as creamy as commercial...but I added some water and it was still SO yummy! So you will love experimenting.

My mom made huge changes during her pregnancy, which made her actually lose weight--she had been an emotional overeater and switched to eating healthier foods only when she was hungry. When she got pregnant, she wanted what was best for her body. She read "Fat is a Feminist Issue" and stopped bingeing, and started eating better overall. I am so grateful, because I didn't grow up wit

342. Re: Date
Didn't know what a date was! How sad. My dad always ate them, he was raised in a desert city. I didn't discover how great they were until I was 20! But at least I knew what they were. Now when he wants to buy me something to fatten me up, I steer him (away from cheese and cookies) over to fresh dates. They are so good juicy, and I have found them in the northern US this way. They are refriger

Yes, I can see how they vary significantly based on various factors. This is where my guestimate is from--I asked Dr. Joel Fuhrman (who advocates a high-raw diet, with non-starchy veggies as the base) this question and he analyzed some beans in his lab--I believe they were kidney beans. You can't eat them raw, but that particular cup was 50 calories and of higher nutrient value. So the basic i

Bryan, Are you by any chance including avocados under fruit? Probably not, but I do love the idea of eating as many avocados as desired without gaining weight At any rate, they seem easier to digest than other fatty food--but like all fats, should be eaten in moderation.

The information about pH is fascinating, thank you for sharing. It is great that you come here looking for advice. But I wouldn't make such a quick judgement about abortion being a "nice convenience"--at my work I see many, many people who were not emotionally and/or financially ready to have their children. They were not ready and have created a toxic, often emotionally abusive relatio

Legumes have less when sprouted...maybe 50 cal a cup. Almonds I don't know. They are probably more similar to the non-sprouted version.

It is never raw. You could buy truly raw peanuts from a raw website like sunfood.com and make your own. Or you could buy raw almond butter (the rawness is up for debate, but it's for sure more raw than peanut butter).

Squeeze a fresh orange onto the salad. You can also add something tart like vinegar or mustard seed, though don't know if that's 811-allowed. Tomato-based is also yummy.

I like to go to work while fasting because it keeps me occupied and is usually not too stressful. There was a stressful incident one day while I was fasting, but it was actually a blessing. I was in such a calm state of mind that I quickly cried and let it go and it didn't bother me the rest of the day like it would have normally. I felt so grateful that I was fasting and in that state of mind. O

utopian life, cool photo. Good point about choosing agave over honey... still I personally would moderate its usage to less than daily (at the most). As far as addiction, I would assume sensitivity to it (as far as sugar addiction) would depend on the person. I still get a "sugar rush" feeling from it, far more than from fresh fruit, but dried fruits are very potent.

The problem is that false hunger--which is almost all the hunger experienced in modern, industrialized countries-- is caused by physical symptoms like detoxification (in which case, stopping overeating and eating healthy for a long period of time is the only "cure" and psychological desires (to entertain or stuff oneself with food). So---hoodia won't help with that. Only going through th

Building on some comments----Do people who eat coconut oil on a regular basis find it to be a laxative? What about coconut cream? I am curious. I know it's difficult to make generalizations--especially when other things in the diet can affect these things (like the discussion about vinegar; it may be beneficial for SAD eaters and negative for a long-time raw-ist). But if anyone has seen any patte

I forgot about the China Study! Yes, money is needed to back all studies, and nutrition studies are long and expensive and easy to confound. So most studies are fairly corrupt--the dairy industry backing weight loss studies, for example.

Dates are a whole food and agave is not. Dates have fiber and other vitamins/minerals, agave is pure sugar... do you know the glycemic load of the dates combined with the other ingredients? (I say load vs index because load accounts for serving size). Because that is really what will affect your body.

While I love the idea of losing weight by eating more of X, I think that tends not to be the case for anything. People native to tropical areas, like all indigenous people, are not looking to lose weight. They sought fatty and sweet food to help *maintain* their weights--after all, they were a lot less sedentary than us. If it was a weight loss food, I don't think they would have eaten it. But

Also chia seed and acai berries. And purslane (I finally found this at a Mexican grocery. But I forgot what they called it in Spanish...verdolago or something like-ish that). There aren't many plant sources. Avo/olives and other nuts and seeds are higher in the omega 6s. Walnuts have more 3s than the others, but not enough to balance the others out.
