I used to keep everything in the fridge because I like my fruit and veggies cold and crisp. I definitely keep tomatoes in the fridge! I know that's not optimal, but they're not in there long enough to affect them adversely. Tomatoes are just HUGE red M&Ms to me. My fridge is still set at 40*F but it seems too cold for things like cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, peppers, etc., Even

I'll be 42 in April so I'm already beyond fabulous but my question isn't about age... The accepted temperature for refrigerators is 40*F (4.5*C). But it dawned on me today that this is basically to keep cooked food-type items fresh, like meat, milk, eggs, opened containers, etc., When I go to the co-op for my groceries, the veggie coolers never feel that cold. Is 40*F optimal for raw foods?

Well, the way I see it is like this... a year is going to go by anyway, so, just get through the first year. I decided not to waste any energy worrying about something that hasn't happened yet. I'll just deal with it when it comes. At least I know cooked foods won't be a temptation for me. When something smells good to me all I have to think is "gut bomb," and I'll back away s

Now, I'm understanding a bit better why this is so "easy" for me. I expected detox to happen as my body started adjusting to the raw food. I thought it was almost immediate. Now, I understand. Detox is coming. Joy.

Greg, Thank you. The right process, for me, it seems is an overnight one. It still seems too good to be true so I'm going to do what David said and watch myself very closely, listening to my body for subtle signs and hints that need attention. David, You hit the nail on the head, actually, when you said: QuoteOften, those folks have been preparing spiritually, physically and emotionally

Lillianswan, Thank you for taking the time to link that information for me. I will definitely give it a look. The funny thing is, I only get that test when I eat a cooked food. David, Thanks for responding. The reason I wanted to ask these questions is because I expected the exact opposite to happen. I thought I would certainly need to transition into the lifestyle change slowly to avoid d

The suggestion to use the light bleach was a suggestion made to someone who said they don't have a lot of money to spend. The special products we can buy to clean our produce are usually expensive. David and I were just recommending a virtually cost-free way of cleaning produce. The bleach system is safe when done as recommended.

QuotePosted by: MauiGreg (IP Logged) Date: March 04, 2008 05:52PM I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. You can always plant the crown of your pineapple in a good sized pot with nice rich soil. You can move it outside to full sun in the summer and then move it back indoors to a sunny window when it gets cold. You won't end up with much fruit, but they do make a pretty house plant. Aloha Nui

Today is my fifth day eating raw. The day before I started I did a one day water fast with a couple of the Master Cleanse Lemonades thrown in for the energy. After only five days, here are my results. I'd like to know if this is normal. From what I'm reading from others on the boards, it doesn't seem to be. 1. Decreased appetite. Eating plenty of fruits and veggies with nuts very sparing

I bought some raw shea butter at my co-op last night based on this thread. $7.98 a pound. I tried it for the first time this morning. It definitely feels nice and I love that its unscented. I picked up the chunk and didn't have to warm it long before I could use it. I love the feeling but it's a little on the oily side. After rubbing it in, I had to use a napkin to get the excess off. When

I had a dehydrator in the past (cooked food days) and hated it. It stunk up the house and nothing ever tasted good. I'm convinced the only reason dehydrated food from my stores can taste good is from added ingredients like sugar and preservatives.

I didn't know this was the case with plums. I knew it was with apricots. I've eaten the nut inside the apricot seed. It's rich with nutrients and yes, is a little bitter, but still good. What's a coconut cracking knife? How do you open a coconut without making a mess?

"slaughtered" is just the general term for killing the animal. Killing an animal can be done humanely. I have a question for those who hold the belief and heartfelt conviction that animals shouldn't be killed for food. I ask this most sincerely and do NOT want a debate. (Especially because I don't know where I stand on the issue.) I fully understand, appreciate, respect and

Thanks Ithierga. What's the purpose of soaking? Is it to let the flavor and oils of the almonds come through more? To "wake them up" to a more living state? If so, what's the benefit of that as compared to unsoaked raw almonds?

anuiyer7, Bless your heart. I'm doing to sound exactly like David for a moment here. YOU are in control of your own raw food and health goals. If your detox process is going too quickly and making life unbearable for you, ease up a bit. There's no rush. No hurry. And no raw food police. You can do this gradually by slowly increasing the amount of raw foods you eat. Start with just o

How long do you soak your almonds? I saw a video on You Tube and the woman didn't soak them first. Is that necessary?

That's sad because, by the time the FDA warns against a product, it's usually much too late and damage has already been done. If women are still using this product after the FDA warns against it, that's pretty scary. At least you're safe! You're not a faceless name in the news to us. If something like that happened to you, we'd feel horrible, too!

Very well said, Brenna! My sentiments exactly - except for the atheist part. I'm rather partial to Jesus, personally! I did neglect to mention in my post that I firmly believe all animals should be treated ethically, humanely and with proper care. I apologize for missing this point. I am a huge animal lover! I've worked with animals in the past and think the world would be a pretty sa

mira, David gave great advice and I learned to take it. My new life with raw foods is more enjoyable because of it. Don't worry about buying all raw. As David also says, "There are no raw food police." Even if you eat only one raw meal a day, even using non-organic raw foods, you'll be improving your health. I promise. There's no rush. Do what you can and have a lot of fun wit

There's a restaurant here in Minneapolis called QCumbers and they're amazing! The largest, freshest salad bar with all raw ingredients that I've ever seen. I loved it before I went raw. Now it means even more to me. They have a very small hot bar, too. No menu. It's kind of like Old Country Buffet but it's 90% salad/raw and 10% cooked foods. Very reasonable, too.

QuoteI was the same way when I went all raw. I felt like a fish that found water. With the help of books and forums I found an approach to the raw food lifestyle that works for me and that I enjoy doing and I'm never going back to SAD. I eat a balanced diet of fresh raw vegan foods. The longer I follow the raw food path the better I feel and the more raw resonates with me. I wish everyone success

Greg, you crack me up! I've never had durian. I'll have to see where I can find one. How expensive are they usually? I've watched many videos on You Tube about people eating their first one and it's always kinda funny. How nutritious are they? Does how they smell/taste make a difference according to how you usually eat? I mean, does a long term raw foodist think it smells and taste

Well, only four days into my raw food life and I've lost eight pounds already. I'm eating a lot of fruits and veggies and a few nuts for the most part. I even had one cooked breakfast when I wasn't prepared to make my own. I drink a lot of water, too. My favorite meal so far has been a blended salad that had the consistency of just below gazpacho. That was like the old days of drinking Red B

QuoteI have experienced talking to a meat eater who would have liked to change my veganism, so don't forget that it goes both ways. Absolutely! From my experience, it usually is the vegetarian trying to convert the meat eater and they can get pretty vocal and dramatic about it. I understand passion. I'm just saying that that's not the way to go about it. The problem with meat eaters is that
