Utopian Life, My post didn't specifically mention dating but it relates to dating. I think a lot of people, when they're dating someone, try to change them. Non-smokers try to convert smokers, vegetarians try to convert meat eaters, etc., A huge problem with dating is that both people usually try to change the other in one way or another. I'll just never understand that.

What an amazing tour, Greg! Thanks so much for taking the time to educate us! I've never seen a pineapple plant before and, to be honest, had no idea you could plant the top of the pineapple. Seeing this was somehow special to me. Thanks again!

The reason I was turned off from vegetarianism and veganism in earlier years was because the people I met who were living this lifestyle were adamant, vehement and obnoxious about it. They shoved their lifestyle on everyone, condemning them for their own choices. What is wrong with people who do this? If YOU want to live this way, go for it! Be happy! Flourish! I'll support you! But, when

EnlightenmentNow, I couldn't be happier for you and your passion for what you believe in. No sarcasm, at all. I'm sincerely happy for you. But I don't think you understand how the lingo you use comes across to someone who is not even close to thinking in that way. I'm not discounting your experiences in the least, but someone on medication and struggling can't just read posts like you'

I live in downtown Minneapolis in an apartment building that was built in 1950. There are a lot of older buildings here. This one is actually a nice one. The walls, floors and ceilings are all concrete. At 5am when all is quiet, sound carries farther. I've never lived in an apartment complex anywhere that was soundproof. Some are quieter than others but, in certain conditions, you can alway

I'll just state up front that I'm not a debater and I don't argue my position on anything. It's my choice. I don't eat meat. I just said I'm not against it. If that offends anyone, I'm sorry, but it's your job to find a way to deal with it. I don't feel the need to justify myself. I'm wholly against new age spiritualism, and there's a lot of it in this lifestyle, but I haven't challenged

I hate the Master Cleanse. But that's just me. It works, I've seen the results on others. It's just that I can't drink it. It triggers my gag reflex and gives me horrendous headaches. If you like the flavor, I believe it's well worth doing. It worked absolute wonders on a friend of mine who is 54. It's water with fresh lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. I promised myself I w

Thanks EZ rider, I have no cookable foods at home at all. Zilch. Thanks for the tip about filling the container to the top. I knew that in the past but had forgotten that fact. A blended salad at work would just make my day! I felt like Popeye after he ate a can of spinach! I'm finding myself really craving fruit. Can't wait to get home to give my blender some heartfelt attention! &l

QuotePosted by: arugula (IP Logged) Date: March 03, 2008 03:52PM I think it's wrong because we don't have to. It's wrong because it's cruelty to sentient creatures with personalities, faces, mothers, having brains that light up when they solve problems, having emotions, etc. It's wrong because it's about an order of magnitude less efficient than eating plants. It's wrong because it's the si

I'm not going to be popular with this, but I'm not against eating meat. I believe animals that are being killed for food should be treated humanely, but I'm not against eating meat. As a Christian, I base this on the life of Jesus. He wasn't a vegetarian. It's recorded that He ate fish and lamb. He fed the multitude with loaves and fishes - which He wouldn't have done if He was a vegetar

Maui must be a very wise place to live. I'm packing my bags! Seriously, I agree with Greg and Butterfly. Being raw turns out to mean more than just eating raw. When the comfort foods are gone, it leaves the raw emotions that caused us to eat out there and they need to be dealt with. There's something else we can tell the SAD people who give us a hard time! Going raw isn't for wimps!!

LOL Actually, I do have a really wonderful fireplace DVD, but I love the idea of the fishtank one! Seriously, this tv is hugeous!

I never thought about restaurants in my area. I have one raw restaurants and several vegetarian and vegan restaurants close by! Ecopolitan: Ecopolitan is a completely organic, vegan and raw restaurant and an ecological shop selling natural, non-toxic home and body goods. There are a lot of co-ops and even one Organic "Farms and Farmer's Market." There's also a group that me

My current apartment building (I'm moving at the end of April), has concrete walls, floors and ceilings. At 5am, it's really quiet and you can hear a dog barking two blocks away. Under normal conditions using my blender would be fine. It's just that, at 5am, when all is quiet, blender noise can rouse the dead! I know I'd hate to hear one next door to me if I were trying to sleep! My new ap

LOL No. I went 100% raw this weekend but, this morning, I didn't plan very well for breakfast. I intended to use my blender but I forgot that I get up at 5am and, in an apartment complex, the blender would have woken up some neighbors. Since I'm not being a perfectionist about it, I just came to work and ordered an omlet from the cafeteria. It felt so heavy and ooky to me. Later, my bod

David and Utopian Life, I see where you're coming from, and I agree that that's case as much as 99% of the time. In my experience, having lived all over the world, there are times when refusing an offer of food really is rude to the host. Not everyone finds themselves in those situations, but I do, given my life the way it is. This has just been the most interesting adventure I've had in a

Call me ignorant, but I never knew this about pineapple! I've never had a problem with it. I just bought one and can't wait to get home and blend half of it with a banana and some tangerines! What I've noticed about pineapple is that the first few bites are especially heavenly! But then, as I eat more of it, the taste changes and eventually my body/tongue just says, "I've had enough,

So far it sounds like I'm doing alright then. It should be easier to start planning for. Every response has been really helpful, thank you! Although I'll be living as raw as possible (an idea that completely excites me), I'm not going to be religous about it. There will be instances where it's either not possible or even rude to not accept something offered to me. Personally, for me, i

Have you ever gone to the doctor's office with a complaint and the doctor completely disregarded what you said? He wanted you to try a medication or something and you already knew that wasn't going to work because you've tried it before. It's frustrating, right?! You know your body and the doctor doesn't so why do they insist that the patient doesn't know (or have any say in) what's right for

Hi Claire, Thanks for replying! The more responses we get, the more ideas we'll have to work with. How long have you been raw? Has your diabetes improved in that time? I've just read so much about raw being the "miracle diet" for diabetes. I hope that turns out to be the case for you. And I'm with you. I hate being caught hungry. Feeling peckish can be good, but being hun

I learned about the living and raw food diet eight days ago now. I spent the first five days studying, studying, studying. Then, on March 1st, I began eating raw. I'm armed with enough information and resources to find a comfortable balance to begin at. I came into it wanting to start 1000% raw and even considered 50% raw. Now that I found the balance to begin at, I'm just going to listen to

Thanks for all the feedback. I was in the co-op and saw all their books. I did start to look at some of them while I was there, but, obviously I can't look at every one thoroughly enough to see if I want to buy it. I'm pretty much getting away from doing much more reading. Between information overload and getting tired of being bombarded with a bunch of new age spirituality, I'm ready for a sabbatical from reading about raw food. I haven't read anything I considered worthy of buying yet. The following are books that are available at my local co-op. If you've read any of them, what do you think of them?
