HI Fruitarianone, How the heck do you do that flag thing? (That's a rhetorical question, you don't have to answer). That's amazing! -Ally

To Bryan, I found your more recent information on B12 very interesting. You seem to have done a lot more research on it than Vivian Vetrano. I intend to check out your information, and I'd love not to have to take a B12 supplement! I hope nobody else references that Vetrano article again though, because I'll probably feel again like I have to say something! Grrrr! I LIKE FACTS! Thanks

Dear Nedsin and Darkw00ds, Innervegetable had a pretty good idea to compare an ounce of spirulina with an ounce of steak. So I thought I'd do the same thing comparing raw wheat germ with whey. Here's some of what I came up with from www.nutritiondata.com: 1/2 cup (58 g) of wheat germ, crude has: 212 Calories, 13.3 g Protein, 1.1 mg Thiamin, .3 mg Riboflavin, 3.9 mg Niacin, .75 mg Vitamin

Hey humbug, Don't worry about it. Concentrate on what you learned instead. IMO the journey really does have as much value as the goal. Someone recently suggested reading the book, "Diet for a New America", by John Robbins, the Baskin-Robbins heir. I agree that it's a great book to read if you want to become a committed vegan. Innervegetable mentioned that you should "be

I respect people's opinions, but I feel I have to speak out when people refer to the Vetrano article (above) on B12. Anyone can look up the nutrition charts on www.nutritiondata.com (info from the USDA) and see that - contrary to the Vetrano article - nuts and seeds do NOT contain any B12 at all. Same with green beans, beets, carrots, and peas - NO B12 whatsoever. Or is there a better sour

Hope nobody minds my jumping in here. I'd just like to add that in my opinion, no matter how well we eat, our bodies need exercise for good digestion and regularity. The older we get, the more this is true. For me yoga works really well for elimination. Walking and/or running a few miles several days a week is also very effective. Enzyme supplements and such may be helpful, but there

My daily staples are fruit, 1/4 cup unhulled sesame seeds, and at least a handful of goji berries. Soaked jungle peanuts are becoming almost an every day thing. Everything else varies from day to day.

Dear Basia, I'm glad you saw the PS. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, and I was here for at least 8 years when I learned that the reason for my stomach pains (and heartburn) was that I had a rare amoeba. Different amoebas have different symptoms, but it's my understanding that the bad ones will all cause you to lose a lot of weight if they go undetected. By the time my doctor sent me to

To Rooneyandmuldoon, It is my personal opinion that Bryan is correct in his assertion that lemon juice is better for you than apple cider vinegar. The Braggs are healthy I'm sure, but why use any kind of vinegar when you can use something so much more simple, cheap, and fresh, like a lemon (organic of course)? Both foods supply abundant enzymes and have qualities that will break up mucous ac

In addition to the above great advice (except that I think citrus is fine as long as you brush and/or do saltwater rinse afterward to restore your mouth to alkaline), I suggest using a WATER PIK to really strengthen the gums. Best wishes, -Ally

Hi Nedsin, I'm always saying this, but one thing you could try is RAW WHEAT GERM - the traditional raw food for body builders. It's great added to salads. Add 1/4 cup or more. Buy it prepackaged, labeled "raw", keep it refrigerated, and stay away from the raw wheat germ in the bulk bins ('cause it goes rancid). I'm also now liking sprouted wheat. I'm not talking about the whea

Hi juve, Yes, they do taste like peanuts, but not like the roasted ones of course. The sprouted jungle peanuts to me taste like peanuts fresh out of the garden (but maybe even better). I agree with greenie. We should grow them here! Peanuts are easy to grow. They are somewhat unique because the little flowers push their way back down under the ground and then turn into peanuts. When th

For a whole food kind of dressing, I like avocado and lemon juice. Then for extra flavor, I add chopped onion, cilantro or parsley, grated fresh ginger, and dulse.

Dear fruitbat55, Making a raw chewing gum would probably be pretty easy to do, except for (maybe) having to figure out some kind of natural preservative for it. Chicle is the latex from the Central American sapodilla tree and was used by the ancient Mayans for chewing gum since the 2nd century. It is still used by chewing gum manufacturers today. For a long time, it was the main ingredien

Dear Dawn, Sorry to have jumped to conclusions about hiding the food. I'm sympathetic to your binge thing because I was a binge eater too, and maybe I still would be if I were eating cooked food, especially grains. I find that as long as I stay raw, I have it pretty much under control. Like Bryan, I can eat a lot of fruit, especially in the morning, and not really feel like I've eaten too mu

Dear humbug, I just saw your last post. It seems you're feeling more positive today. Very good! I was concerned about you so I'd already written out the following, and I'll post it anyway just in case you find any of it helpful. I agree with Bryan and Chilove about the fruit. I'm concerned that in your last post you mention you are binging on other foods and even hiding food. If y

Hi Piano Gal, OH sorry! According to Nature's First Law, they are a certified organic, nonhybridized peanut variety harvested from the rainforest by the Shuar Indians of Ecuador. They were tested for aflatoxin by J. Leek & Associates (NFL calls J. Leek "the top independent allergen testing facility in the United States". You can get more information by googling "Wild Jun

Just thought I'd pass this on to anyone who's interested. I ate my first sprouted jungle peanuts today, and they were really good! Usually when you buy them, a lot of them seem pretty stale, but when they're sprouted, they taste nice and crunchy, juicy and sweet, and just a bit of oily - very much like fresh peas off the vine (but a little oilier). They weren't at all starchy like other spro

I thought that was really interesting what Fruitarianone said:..."how your parents and grandparents looked after their health can have an effect on your own health and abilities". I think that might be really true. Maybe our lifestyle can actually have an effect on the quality of the genes we pass on to our children. That would mean that if for example we inherit an unhealthy gene

Alive, I like that: "IF YOU'RE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING!" Congratulations on your 7 year anniversary! Oh, and I just want to say that it's been my experience too that the longer I stay away from any kind of cooked food that I used to really like, the easier it is for me to forget about eating it. I begin to stop thinking of those things as really being food, even though

Binging on bananas and dates ain't so bad. Of course it's best never to overeat, so you might try combining the sweet fruits with just a little bit of nuts or seeds to keep down the overall quantity of food. Sometimes just a very small handful of nuts or seeds can put a stop to a sweet tooth binge pronto. Maybe try a snack of a date/almond combo - just a few instead of a lot. Then you could eat

Giottaj, Since you've already been 90% for a month, you're doing real good. I agree with Lilpaws about the nuts and seeds. Also, salads with raw wheat germ and a dressing of cold pressed olive oil and lemon juice have really helped me stay raw. I'm beginning to replace the raw wheat germ and olive oil with sprouted wheat and 1/4 of an avocado. But the raw wheat germ and olive oil definitely

Hi bluef, I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong, but my understanding has always been that wheatberries are the seeds from any variety of wheat, including the red hard winter wheat. And yes, wheatgrass grows from wheatberries, including wheatberries from the winter wheat. Best wishes, Ally

I get phlegm in my throat immediately every time I eat greens - ANY greens - even a small amount and even though they are raw organic. If I answer the phone right after eating greens, people ask me if I have a cold. Often I wake up with a sore throat after eating greens. In addition, my eyes swell and stay swollen for a couple of days, and I feel tired. I've been like this for many years. I ea

Check www.nutritiondata.com for grams of fat contained in each food. In the right hand corner of the home page, you can enter each food. If you enter "avocado", then on the next page, if you click "Avocados raw, all commercial varieties", you will get charts listing the amounts of all the essential nutrients for avocados - including fats. You will also get the percent DV fo

Just as a thought, don't forget to get plenty of outdoor exercise. I like the benefits of walking, running, and yoga combined with a raw food diet. It's true that "nutrition is only one aspect of food". It may also be true that food is only one aspect of good health and a feeling of well-being. Maybe it's just time for a next step. You may be in detox, but if you are moving
