Hi janice, You might see if you can find a physician with experience in getting people off their meds. I think it's so sad that there aren't too many really good doctors out there, but there are some. I don't know if you live anywhere near Dr. Joel Fuhrman, but he seems to have done that sort of thing through a program of fasting combined with good diet. He has a book called, "Fa

I really like the sun. If a person can take exposure to the sun without getting sunburned, that might be OK. I use Aubrey sunscreen (no chemicals) and sometimes wear a hat whenever I know I'll be out in the sun long enough to burn. Since I've been raw, I do seem to be able to take more sun without burning. But for me there's a limit. I believe the sun is a great healer, and I'm one that th

Well, I gave it some thought, and decided that jumping right into eating greens everyday was just a little too much for me, at least right at first. So after last week, I fasted one day and ate just fruit and nuts for the next two days. I feel much better. What I really liked was that by yesterday I was no longer constipated! My eyes are no longer swollen, and when I'm running, I feel more hy

Everyone I ever knew that ate fresh noni (including myself) agrees that it tastes pretty horrible, but maybe it's an acquired taste (Is that why you were laughing VeganLife?)! It's used more as a medicinal, both for external and internal purposes. I'm currently eating dried raw organic noni every day for its (claimed) anti-inflamatory properties. I agree with Bryan that it might be a good ide

Hi alive!, I definitely agree that Dr. Howell's conclusions from those experiments are a little "over the top". First of all, Dr. Howell doesn't state whether or not he gave the animals ONLY unsprouted stuff, with nothing else at all in the diet. That might cause problems for anybody, and it's not how most raw fooders eat. Also, the first sentence about eating "substantial a

Well, for several days I've been eating vegetables every day (instead of about twice a week as usual). I'm still all raw (of course!) and also eating fruits and nuts/seeds like before. Smoothies make me kind of nauseous, so it's chew or nothing (sorry all you smoothie fans, that's just the way it is for me). Here's some of the results from eating the veggies everyday: GOOD: Yesterday I

Much appreciation for your kind words Adrienne! Hi monochromatism. You're right about avos and cucumbers. I never have a problem with them. My body seems to use them just like fruits. Even though they're green, avocados actually are botanically and horticulturally a fruit (they bear the seed). Cucumbers are botanically a fruit, but are classified by horticulturists as a vegetable because

Hi alive! I'm glad you understood my post meant no harm. Thanks alive! and chickory for your encouragement. I'm giving the veggies another try, just eating a little every day for starters. I also got some raw organic noni leather today (grown nearby so I know it's the real raw thing). It's supposed to be anti-inflamatory, so I thought that might help. Chickory, I'm really sorry if I appe

Thanks m. Green smoothie. Hmm. I'm kind of old school about food combining, but it never hurts to give something new a try! Maybe I could start with one real small smoothie a day and slowly increase the greens. Thanks again, -Ally

Thanks davidzane for all the info.! I thought maybe they were slimy because they were dead. I guess they're supposed to be like that! Best wishes, Ally That's neat Mike - your own chia pet! I'll try soaking them too. I don't really care for them too much as they come from the store.

Hi sodoffsocks, I agree that no one should be subject to attacks. Not vegans, not nonvegans. I agree that we're all equal. IMO if a raw nonvegan OR a cooked fooder comes to a raw vegan forum and expresses their PREFERENCE FOR or BELIEF IN cooked or nonvegan foods, they shouldn't be surprised if their views are countered by raw vegan views. And they shouldn't be surprised if people wonder

Hi Chickory and m, I take it you both don't think I should write a book that says too much vegetables are bad for you! This post started out being a kind of spoof on the post "too much fruit". But I'm happy to be receiving some good info from the responses. m, what is Hcl? Is it an enzyme? Can you give me a reference for more information? I try eating more vegetables a

I was wondering about sprouting flax. I believe it's a grain, so it should sprout just like wheat, rye, quinoa, etc. I tried sprouting some flax, but it just seemed to turn slimy. Maybe I didn't stay with it long enough? Can anyone tell me if they've successfully sprouted flax? If so, what kind of flax, and how did you do it? Best wishes, -Ally

HI greenman, Grains probably don't contain anything that fruits and vegetables don't contain, but grains contain many of the same nutrients in a more concentrated form. For example, flax contains huge amounts of the omega 6 and omega 3 fats. Since such a small quantity of flax contains such a huge quantity of omegas, a person can get the omegas they need from flax by consuming only a small

Hi ryandvan, I was wondering if you were referring to raw sprouted grains or were you referring to cooked grains? I agree that raw sprouted grains certainly don't have the same easily available sugar as fruits, but they possibly have the potential for contributing essential nutrients in a very easily digestible form (for most people) to a raw food vegan diet. That said, I think it would

I think nonvegans who respect that this is a vegan forum should be welcome. IMO nonvegans could show respect by not submitting posts that attempt to justify being nonvegan and especially by not submitting posts that suggest that others should eat nonvegan foods. That's when people feel they have to debate the vegan issue. And as alive! has stated, "Vegan is a given here". I also th

Hi Yogamama, Did you mean sesame seeds? The unhulled sesame seeds are kind of brownish. The hulled sesame seeds are pure white. They're both about the same size because the hull is very thin. If the unhulled sesame seeds look exactly the same as the hulled sesame seeds at your health food store, maybe the employee put the same kind of seed in both bins by mistake. New employees at health fo

I can't eat cooked grains at all. It doesn't matter if they're sprouted (like Ezekiel bread) or not. If they're cooked I feel terrible after eating them. Sprouted raw grains make me feel good. That's just me. I add them to salads. Best wishes, Ally

My nutritionist told me many years ago that leg cramps are caused by calcium deficiency. Oranges, cruciferous veggies, sunflower seeds, and ESPECIALLY UNHULLED SESAME SEEDS are foods that can help boost your calcium. There is more calcium in 1/4 cup of sesame seeds than in 1 whole cup of whole milk. Best wishes, -Ally

Flax is a grain. I don't see any reason NOT to eat grains if a person feels good eating them. Naturally, a person sensitive to gluten should not eat grains containing gluten. Grains can be eaten raw sprouted. Best wishes, -Ally

Hi Mike, I just saw your post. I've never fermented my own veggies, so maybe I'll look into it. I used to like the kim chee you could get at the health food store, but then I noticed they took the word "raw" off their label, so I stopped buying it. Much thanks for the suggestion. Best wishes, Ally

Arugula, Hi. I'm not throwing out the whole deal. I eat salads 2 times a week, sometimes more, but 2 salads a week seems optimal for me. About a month ago, I gave it another whack and ate a salad every day for about a week. Not a real big salad either. That time we had a rental car, so all the salad stuff came from the health food store and was organic. I was visiting family, so there
