I had a thought this morning. It has been unofficially stated by people that often when your body craves something, it is sending you a signal that it wants whatever that thing contains. I think this may be true - especially in the case of very strange cravings, such as the ones sometimes attributed to pregnant women, who probably have a very hightened attunement to their bodies(plural). When I get into a situation where I must unavoidably take the life of the insect I sometimes apologize first. lol Just a wierd habit. I don't exactly believe in reincarnation but sometimes I'll wish for them to have a good rebirth. Like a cat or something. -DaveK

I actually made a dehydrator based on the plans I found here: It works ok, but I have a hard time keeping the temparature below 110 - 116. I probably spent a little over $20, and I ended up buying some of the things twice because I didn't know what I was doing. One thing I did was get a dimmer switch for the lightbulb, but I couldn't get it to work at all. I plan on buying one p

Just tell them about this: Current scientific theories about nutrition and generally accepted common sense both indicate that a person who follows this practice in the long term would die of starvation or dehydration. Breatharians have seldom submitted themselves to medical testing, and currently there is no evidence to support their claims. In a handful of documented cases, individuals atte

Yup, I have a little mini garden on my terrace, as well as houseplants that I use the compost for. Going to start doing even more of that soon! Plus you can give it away to people or just give it back to the earth! She digs that kinda thing. -DaveK

phantom Wrote: > How did you get started with vericomposting? I think I always thought it was a neat idea, and I really have not had luck with regular compost piles. They just tend to stink and get flies, and the compost they make seems kind of messy. The vermicompost is just pure wonderful earthy-smelling DIRT. So I just bought a system to do it awhile ago, and it works great.

It's still a good subject to bring up. People may think it's funny to talk about killing plants, and somehow that's less serious than killing animals. But it does make you consider our role and our environmental impact, if not as individuals, then in aggregate. There's the industry itself to consider. Farmers, farmland, the animals that lived there but don't anymore. Even if all you buy

You kill food when you eat it, no matter what kind of diet you are on. I see the sort of poetic beauty here, but it scientifically doesn't work.

Another good strategy is to read the actual ingredients that are in things. There's all that wierd, unpronouncable stuff in there that does not sound like it should even be edible. Actually, it probably ISN'T edible any more than office paper is edible, it's just in such inconspicuous doses that we don't give it much thought. Of course, I once ate the program to our jazz band concert in

My family ate about half the pie. I had competition with other desserts including a regular apple pie! So half is pretty good. I left the rest with my mom and told her she needs to eat it for breakfast because it's good for her. I looked over at one point and my aunt was eating my pie - with whipped cream on it. Oh well, at least she was eating it!

I practice some wierd combination of Theravada Buddhism, Zen and do some yoga, but we don't have time for me to explain it! So I usually point people to this site: There is a 5 week vipassana (insight) meditation course here. (I actually recommend the bottom one since I've done it before and it's not missing any files). Though vipassana meditation comes from the Buddhist tra

Here's Ani with her recipe on youtube: For a simpler version, you can soak apples in lemon and cinnoman over night for the filling. But Ani's (the one I made) is not that hard. Just an orange (peeled and seeded of course) and 2 cups of dates in a food processor. (plus cinnamon. Don't forget the cinnamon!) -DaveK

Well, technically second. But the first was like a first draft. Here's the real deal! The picture is from my camera phone, so it's not great. For the most part it's Ani Phyo's recipe, with a few minor modifications. I let the apples soak in the stuff overnight separately from the crust before "assembling" it. I even did the pinchy thing with the crust! Going to spring it

I'm new to raw, so could somebody give me the skinny on Cacao? By inference I've determined that it's "kinda like chocolate, but raw." I don't know much else about it. Where does it come from, why is it chocolatey, and is there anything I need to know about buying it?

Well I figured as much. I guess I was secretly hoping somebody would say "The skin has no nutritional value whatsoever!" But of course I'm not going to fret about it. I'll try your version of the soup if I ever stop being addicted to this one! I can't stop eating it. It's so refreshing and wholesome and makes me want to roll around naked in fields of grass in the springtime!
