I know people that have run marathons barefoot. Something I inventigated but was too lazy to go through with. It's just a matter of getting your feet back in the shape they were, lifetimes ago, before we started wimping them with shoes. Shoes cause us to run and walk differently and unaturally. Maybe not so bad for regular walking, but you can definately spot the difference in running when

155. Beets!
OK, I bought beets for the first time ever last night. Um, now what? I've never had them in anything. I mostly got them because I saw them in a few juicer recipes. However, the things are pretty big - not just the bulby part but the stalk as well. So is that whole part edible/juicable? First I think I will try this: 5 Carrots 1 Apple 1/2 Beet Since I"ve never had beets befor

Great idea rawkitty. A change in environment can do wonders, or even just changing who you hang out with. I know I started eating healthier when I started taking yoga classes and seeing all those damn skinny, healthy, flexible, strong people! -Davek

I've met people who have done 60 day master cleanses, which is essentially a kind of juice fast. A juice fast would be giving you a lot more vitamins and minerals of course, so I can't see why you couldn't do it for quite a long time. However doing it indefinately worries me a bit. I'd be worried about things not getting pushed out through the colon. Maybe somebody can correct me on whether

lol! I know maui! That's how I feel. You're exactly right. I actually took my juicer owners manual to work yesterday to get to know it better. Then I was reading recipes online all day at work. I went to the manufacturer's website: and was IMing the link to my friends and family. Then I watched the demo video on the site. (I didn't really need to watch it, but my friend mentioned

I gave up alchohol years ago, realizing that I was unable to moderate. Only more recently I gave up an addiction to the sleeping pills I was using as a substitute. Not only did I "need" them to get to sleep, but I would take them just for the buzz. It took me multiple times to quit on each one. Each time I went back on the habit, I felt an enourmous sense of regret. Lots of pai

I just got my juicer yesterday. So far I've had celery apple carrot (about 4 of each), and celery apple orange (3 of each and 2 oranges). And I had plain orange juice, which I love, becuase it's kind of a smoothie rather than squeezed juice. I've also been juicing ginger, though I haven't put it in anything yet. (Straight up!) I'd say the first two I mentioned would be good for you, becua

Ohh that's right you've got yourself a little farm there.. bwahahaha Just made some orange juice. Amazing how it comes out. I just peeled off the outer layer and left a lot of the white stuff. It's very foamy and frothy and creamy like. amazing. I wonder if I could just leave the peel on? That's good stuff isn't it?

So I finally determined that with my hiatal hernia/GERD that a juicer was no longer a luxury but a MUST. So I just got one today. Paid about $170. It was that or the Jack Lalaynne one which looked cheesy, and I was hearing the voices of people in my past who have always said that you really should invest in a good one. My first drink was carrot/apple/celery. It was wonderful. I also j

Yaay I'm not wierd. Either that or we're all nuts. I've had one pit sitting in water a couple of weeks, waiting for it to sprout. Should be soon I hope. The other ones I just have sitting in a decorative kinda bowl.

Also check all the raw recipe things for all the dessert type stuff you can make with fruits, nuts, dates, etc. You don't want to go overboard on that stuff either, but it's good transitional food for getting into healthier eating. One nice snack that somebody here told me about was to blend some nuts and dates together in a food processor. You can them roll them into little balls and they a

Another consideration is that raw food seems to be less absorbant than all the fatty and carbohydrate foods in a SAD. -DaveK

If you don't mind a technical question for a moment. Are there really different enzymes in my body for something like a green bean vs. a snow pea? If so, then it raises the question for me about how many enzymes DOES my body have? Is there like a database in my DNA that contains instructions on how to build the enzymes for every single food? Or what? lol -DaveK

BTW, I just had my first sort of mono meal. 3 bananas! I feel full but not bloated/lethargic full. My stomach seems quite happy. Like it's relaxed, just chillin' out, digestin' bananas, goin "hey thanks for the 'naners bud."

A little late on this thread, but I just wanted to ask a bit. If had something like snow peas, green beans, snap peas - would those be close enough to be a single mono meal? Those are some of my favorite munchy vegetables. *crunch crunch*

I suppose this could be likened to the Buddhist and yogic idea of "sankharas" or "samskaras." I've never heard it applied to food so much as chronic muscular tensions, which, when resolved, can lead to a kind of flashback of the episode or idea that caused the tension to manifest. Sounds pretty much like the same thing as far as I can tell.

I imagine anything you take for your liver would actually be flushed out by a cleanse, in my unscientifically verified assessment.

My experience with the master cleanse (3 of them) was great. Not only did I lose weight from them (which wasn't even my goal) but I continued to drop weight when I came off it. The first time I did it I lost 10 pounds on and 10 more pounds coming off. They key is to adopt the right psychology for coming off of it. Not just saying "I will eat better," but really getting yourself ps

Flashback cravings! Pardon me for being wierd but this is what came into my mind: {goes into trance} "Hey Dave, what's wrong" "Sorry, was just having a flashback." "Oh, I'm so sorry. You were in the service?" "No, had a bacon cheesburger once in '87." "ohhhhh kay." "I did things I regret. Saw things...Ate things..."
