The pouring of the water is a metaphor for death, I think. Many don't want to face it. If we spend less time worrying about it, we are abt to delay it for a bit, though noone gets out of this world alive. I love these two quotes around the same time... lol "If a man lives, it is certain he will die. Therefore it is foolish to treat death like an enemy". Kwai Chang Caine

Cares, I own both a Vitamix Pro 500 and a Blendtec HP3A with a 72 ounce wildside carafe. I paid 550 rather than 600 for the Pro 500. And at that price point, the automatic presets are worth it for me because it saves me time in the kitchen. That said, at $150 difference, it probably wouldn't be for me. I'd say go 5200 if the carafe is BPA free and it's a VS (7 year warranty rather than 5

experiences differ. You can certainly try baking on a low temp in an oven as some have suggested or sun drying at different times of year. As a method of preservation, dehydrating is certainly less expensive than freezing. For me, I use mine for flax crackers, warming marinades or soups, making kale chips, manna bread, fruit leathers, "sun dried" tomatoes for marinara sauce, etc.

An RDA or MDR is usually based on preventing a deficiency anyway, not preventing overdose. There may be Upper Tolerance Limits, but I seriously doubt that this is an issue with arugula. Some have raised concerned about cruciferous vegetables generally (arugula is a cruciferous vegetable) interfering with thyroid function. But this is usually only a problem if iodine intake is not suffic

Skyfeather, I'm not sure what you mean when you say a dehydrator removes any hydration from foods? A dehydrator removes/reduces water content, but not to zero. Many raw vegans, particularly those on a fruit-based diet, forego a dehydrator because it doesn't contribute to their daily intake the same way a blender or juicer would. That said, many raw vegan do have them, esp those into raw g

Prana, agree with you re: the Tao Te Ching. I don't have the Mitchell translation. I will have to look at it. I own a copy of the Gia Fu Feng/Jane English translation (1972). I like it's black and white photography that accompanies the text. There is no annotation in the book itself, just the translation. Isha, I don't know the answer to your question. The Angelia issue maybe mostly a US issue. USJuicers.com, the American distributor of the Super Angel, claimed an unauthorized dealer bought Angelias from overseas and was trying to sell them here. "Unauthorized Angelia Juicer models Please Beware ! An unauthorized dealer brought the foreign model of Angelia from overseas and try to

In my humble opinion, an Eastman Triton Copolymer carafe is the way to go. When you think about all risks including the risk of glass shattering if it gets too hot or it a hard object like a date pit or nut shell traveling at high speed, then a BPA free plastic looks better and better. Polycarbonate carafes are good too, esp if just for quick smoothies or something similar. Bottom line, no

Tam, You may be right. It is just a case study after all. And sometimes in the past, Greger has been a little fast and loose with his conclusions, though generally I trust him. I do think the risk of lactic acidosis should be considered if only because there are apparently other reported cases. The case study of the HIV patient is here. I would want to know more about benefit to r

the cell wall of all cruciferous vegetables - arugula is a cruciferous vegetable- must be ruptured or broken to allow the enzyme myronaise - heat sensitive- to combine with glucosinolates to produce chemicals like sulforaphane. If arugla is heated in anyway prior to the breaking of the cell wall, the enzyme cannot do its job. Eating arugla raw is the best way. Paul

chlorella and spirulina are very different, active b-12 is dominant in chlorella where the analogues are dominant in spirulina. We don't have a lot of data on MMA from the B-12 in chlorella. But chlorella definitely appears to have it. There is one study from 1968 on Jack Norris's site that said the chlorella sample didn't appear to have any. But, that is too long ago and contradicted

gotta love free enterprise. An MMA test from a Directlabs.com competitor for $52.49 instead of $120.... a $68 savings. It's a market folks. If more people demand testing as an alternative and if there is/are foods that keep your MMA levels in check. Even if you take supplements, doing a check isn't a bad idea once and a while. You won't get it on your physical. Paul update

agreed. Not a lot of profit in it though ....so... we are on our own. But perhaps working together we can shine a light. Someone named Korn over on the veganforum.com has tried to do just that. Not done with it yet, but interesting. Panchito, there is a subforum over there on B-12 in plants. Got a sticky about chlorella. Reading now. Paul update: looks like purple laver h

I don't know if chlorella will pan out or not. That's an empirical question. And I don't think it answers a question that doesn't matter to me very much, whether humans evolved as vegans. What I don't like in the mainstream media is the tired line that B-12 doesn't exist in plant foods only in animal foods and ergo without supplements we are doomed. I think a better answer starts with

I realize that we have been over this ground before. But, I wanted to just vett this idea and see what you thought. Can testing with a "somewhat" reliable vegan source of B-12 be used in the place of supplements? Specifically, chlorella. Some anecodotes on line of raw vegans and other vegans documenting reduced MMA levels. Good evidence that active B-12 rather than the an

Sproutman, Can't entirely agree. Arsenic in hijiki is a specific risk that needs to be watched for. It's a specific metal in a specific seaweed, nonetheless, it needs to be taken seriously. Losing hijiki or verifying organic hijiki are two viable strategies. Dulse flakes and dulse are great iodine sources. Wakame, and kombu are excellent. The author of Practically Raw, Amber Shea Craw

I think first, you have to look at the whole food, not just particular constituents unless those constiuents contaminate the whole food. It's true about raw mushrooms containing agaratine and hydrazine derivatives. And cooking does completely destroy these. Raw mushroom consumption is not advised. But if you are not 100 percent, your rewards for including these in your 10 percent cooked coul
