We agree on a lot Henry. Probably more than you think. But not this I'm afraid. John K has said and Norwalk has tested that pressed juice is some of the highest quality possible which is why it is specified for Gerson therapy. So, agree to disagree on this one.

Darkness of the juice is a sign of oxidation? Based on what? Mostly likely the centrifugal juicer oxidized the juice more than the press.

One shouldn't rely on any single b-12 source but incorporate several. That said, analogues appear to be in spirulina and not in chlorella That said, it looks to me like I may take a break from all algae... chlorella and sprirulina until I can get this German study figured out. . There are certainly other more reliable vegan sources of b-12 available without the toxins. Paul

I strive for optimal B-12 intake through redantant mechanisms... I take nutritional yeast, My vega supplement. but I still want to be vegan in the morning. B-12 is a much discussed subject. In candor, Chris knowingly or otherwise has tapped a prior Graham critical thread I wrote and have to stand by... much of what I learned and liked about Doug has to stand..... at the same time ..Joel

Chris, Thanks. Is Graham against all supplementation? I will check for myself tonight. If so, I agree that's a dealbreaker. Paul

Chris, I've searched on "Raw Gosia", just "Gosia" and "b-12" and cannot find it. I'm not doubting you. But at this time, 2:28 pm EST I don't see the post you are discussing. Certainly there are B-12 risks but we know what they are. Even Harley and Freelea took B-12 supplementation. What is Grahams's position on this? Paul

I just purchased a new product from John Kohler who as usual is ahead of the curve.... a $200 hydraulic juice press similar to the unit on the back half of a Norwalk juicer or the Welles Press... the former selling for $2500... the latter for $400. In case you hadn't seen John's review... here's the link . These are unsolicited btw. Oh and the original manufacturer is charging abou

Used to be a Graham basher. I didn't like him but to be perfectly honest hadn't read him. Lot of eye opening stuff in 80-10-10. Are there comparative risks of choosing a fruit based raw vegan diet over either a fat based one or a starch based one? Maybe? But nothing hard that I've seen. Some studies on dental carries or protein deficiency if you don't have sufficient calories. But pres

The waist to height ratio has made BMI obsolete. Make sure your waist is less than 1/2 your height and you will be fine. Mine isn't... yet. Paul

My father is a 3 year cancer survivor of stage 3 esophageal. You might try Dr. Keith Block in Chicago. He uses integrative treatment for cancer.

As always the problem with the term "best" is that it is relative. One juicer might the best at extracting nutrients but be cost prohibitive (cough cough Norwalk cough) or almost as expensive. Another juicer may be cost effective but contain bpa in the auger potentially causing exposure to xenoestrogens. John Kohler himself made the point about BPA.. Funny thing though in the abs

I use a combination of separate sprays of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to kill pathogens followed by a cold water rinse. This is based on research by Susan Sumner of Virginia Tech comparing different rinse agents against a variety of pathogens. Note, that the rinses have to be separate. Don't compbine hydrogen peroxide and vinegar into one bottle as it creates a nasty acid... begins with a

Here's the skinny. . not many studies statistically showing vegans as opposed to vegetarians have a lower cancer rates. This is one. Jack Norris posted first. I'll be interested if I can find the full version online at some point to get to the whole story. For now, just glad for the added benefit. More good news out of Loma Linda. Paul

watercress is a cruciferous vegetable. As such, it is very high on cancer fighting veggies. It has a relatively high more pungent smell compared to other cruciferous veggies like bok choy or kale. A little more bitter too. I've found organic watercress is less bitter and works well in raw soups and salads. As with all cruciferous vegetables, chew well or chop finely or blend to break d

BW, When you asked your original question about 80-10-10 books, were you asking about other diets that use that same ratio of carbs, proteins, & fats, or were you asking about other books that promote a raw fruit-based (though not exclusively fruitarian) diet? The reason I ask is that the advice may be different depending on what you really want. If it is the 80-10-10 ratio that is impo

was it just the carrot pulp and almond pulp or did you add other ingredients? flax or a some binder? I would think just adding a little sprouted grain or fruit for some pliability might help. For me, manna bread is hit or miss. If I overdry it, it's only fit for pooch or compost. I tend to make mine a little thicker when it's bread than crackers so I can try to get that dry outside and mo

I'm just curious. I just left the DrFuhrman.com forums and so am spending more time at other sites both raw vegan and vegan. And I am beginning to like Veganforums.com. Some good here. A guy there named Korn appears to be on top of the literature on B-12 and plant sources. I have found his thought on chlorella esp helpful. I know we have talked about both chlorella and spirulina and

Michelle, Welcome. You can certainly and should eat moderate to high carb. Of the three macronutrients, carbohydrates are the fuel that the body needs and burns cleanly (glucose). The key is to limit fat and enjoy whole food carbohydrates, preferably raw. Fruits (sweet and unsweet) as well as some starchy vegetables along with sprouted legumes (chickpeas, lentils, mung beans, adzuki bean

I forget who proffered the "sanitation hypothesis". But the basic point was the same as many other ideas about throwing out the good bacteria with the bad. I remember reading Keith Akers book back in 1983 on vegetarianism where he quoted a study showing UK vegans suffered from b-12 deficiency where Iranian vegans as a group did not. It's speculation to assume what the difference is.

Chris, Thanks for sharing. And a belated congratulations on your recovery. I wonder if chlorella is low in iodine being freshwater and would make it a more sustainable supplement than sea vegetables. Paul

Chris, Could you tell us a little more about your experience with Chlorella and how it has helped? I've heard that some sea vegetables (not hijiki which may contain arsenic) may help facilitate depletion of heavy metals and toxins. Since chlorella is a freshwater algae, I'm interested in comparing notes. Paul

I have seen the ads for "Evertfresh" green bags that purportedly absorb ethylene dioxide gas thereby increasing the shelflife and reducing spoilage for greens in your crisper/frig. Does anyone have any experience with the bags? The reason I asked is that I bought a competitor "Blue Apple" which had pretty disappointing performance I must say at least for greens. Fruits

Tam, I agree it certainly is more of a problem for SADers and it isn't necessary. And as Chris points out, phytic acid has benefits as well as risks. For me, I like the consistency of my nut butters when I have soaked the nuts first. And again for the trail mix (mine is tree nuts, goji berries, dehydrated carrot and zucchini), nothing beats the crunch of a soaked/dried pistachio or walnut
