i feel so much better this morning. thank you all for taking the time to write. really, everybody's comments helped so much. i think one of the biggest hurdles for me is psychological. i feel so nostalgic about all these foods i think i'm missing. but giving in to them, pops that bubble and i can see it's all just an illusion. even knowing this, and knowing how awful they make me feel, it's hard

after a 12 day fast, then 3 weeks of really clean raw food, i had been feeling great- until today..... today i thought it would be a good idea to "throw a bone to my shadow" and eat half a bagel and a few miscellaneous bites of junk food at work. then a few hours later, clearly feeling the spaced out tired feeling from the wheat that i knew would happen, i decided to have some bread

i experimented and made delicious corn chips! in the food processor: 3 ears fresh corn cut from the cob 2 teaspoons flaxmeal 3 slices jalepeno pepper dash of salt pour mixture onto a teflex sheet and dehydrate overnight. then turn it onto the mesh and dehydrate until pliable, then cut into chips and dry until desired crispness. these are sooo good. tonight i'm going to make a raw

i have a similar reaction to cocao, like jamielor and lisa m. however i've only been raw for a very short time- weeks. i think i just have a sensitivity to caffeine. i read somewhere that the older we get, the harder it is for our bodies to metabolize the caffeine. that may be why when i eat one of these fabulous raw chocolate coconut bars i made i was up all night, and my daughter, who ate sever

coconut oil is absolutely great for your skin and hair. i spent about 3 months in india several years back, and i swear those people practically bathe in the stuff and everyone has gorgeous hair. i use it, too whenever i remember to. a word of caution, though- if you put it on at night and sleep in it, then double up on 2 pillowcases that you don't care about. it doesn't come out, and goes ra

utopian life- actually i am fortunate enough to live in one of the most progressive areas in california, and there are some small organic dairy farms here where the humane treatment of animals is held to a high standard. but the good news is that i am really not even wanting dairy that much right now, so it's fairly easy for me to have an avocado or some nut pate and feel satisfied. the dairy i u

i once read that mucoid forming foods, which are basically the entire SAD diet, produce a sort of mucous on the brain, and causes mental fogginess and disease, and this mucous also collects throughout the body, contributing to all sorts of degenerative diseases. on another note, one of the more fascinating things i have read recently about the raw diet, is that the presence of abundant enzyme

how can i know if the nuts i'm buying that are labeled raw, really not processed with heat, and therefore not raw? i'm really enjoying almonds and walnuts right now, and buying them from a dependable local produce market. they look fresh. and i'm in california where i think they grow alot of that stuff. reading the thread about cashews, which i also love, has me questioning this. any thoughts?

cocoa_nibs- i can totally relate to the addiction thing. i think that replacing my most tempting, and worst offenders, wheat and dairy, with less addictive, healthier raw choices, i'm going to make this transition easier. i agree, the healthier choices, as we progress along the raw path, the less addictive. so for now, raw crackers and avocados are working well when that craving sets in. here'

i'm new to this, but here is what is really helping me... i read in one of my raw books to find some things that you like, and then just eat that. it sounds so simple and obvious, but it really has helped me. i'm not going to worry about too much of this and too little of that, and whatever. after one week now of about 98% raw, i am noticing that i am feeling so much more energized and healthy, t

wow- thank you all so much. bryan- hmmm. i feel very shy to go to a potluck or something like that by myself....i'll think about it, though. thanks for the suggestion. wheatgrass yogi- yes, just keep on keepin on. i like that. i guess i could see this journey i'm on as my own way of transitioning. i do become stronger each "try," and more tolerant of myself and accepting of whe

hi everybody, here's my story: i have known intuitively for many years that raw food is best for my body mind and spirit. however, over the past 10 years or so, i have swayed back and forth from my mostly vegetarian (and very cooked) diet to a few months of raw, and then back to the cooked stuff. i have never been able to sustain the raw diet, even though i feel and look so much better when i

hi everyone, fasting of any sort has always been a challenge for me, but for some reason the master cleanse was the easiest by far. i did 20 days last fall, and i'm on day 9 of a ten day cleanse right now. i feel it is best to allow my body more time for rest and healing, but can say from experience, that the level of energy and mental clarity i experience is awesome. it is almost like i don't

hi pam! wow, how great to hear from you! it was a great cleanse last fall. i ended up doing 20 days, and felt great. i totally agree with you, and wish i could just not eat, either. it really would be so much easier. i swing from good eating habits to kinda not so good. but a fast always hits the reset button and i get on the right track for a while afterwards. this time around i'm doing 10 da
