Adam, I've had my Vitamix for about 3 years and I have never smelled anything like burning. Have you been to the Vitamix site? There are some support answers posted there. Here's one answer from a Vitamix rep regarding a burning smell:

Ugh. It reminds me of Thomas Midgley, the chemist who gave us leaded gasoline and refused to go near the stuff except when giving demonstrations of how 'safe' it was when he knew it wasn't. He eventually retired due to ill-health from exposure to lead and died when he strangled himself on some of the apparatus to treat his conditions, but not before giving the world the gift of CFCs. If they g

I read an article on this earlier and decided mommy dearest sounded like a total loser to me. Having a highly developed skill in an artistic or academic area doesn't necessarily make you a better or happier human ready to cope with the realities of big, strange world, which is what I think the critical role of a parent should be. If your kids require constant bullying or abuse to succeed in are

I hate this stuff. I feel my only defense mechanism is to bury my head in the sand and pretend it's not happening. I really don't understand why safe drinking water and food aren't a priority for everyone. Making us all fat, sick, infertile, and dead doesn't sound like a good business model.

A quarter inch is very fine. 1 - 2" inch cubes works well. Whatever size you pick, you want to make sure there are straight edges for the blades to catch. Smooth, round shapes like whole oranges or peaches tend to just spin around without the blades catching.

Check again. Enjoy the fact that fruits have a PointsPlus value of 0, but don’t go completely crazy. Only 10 percent of Americans eat the recommended amount of fruit, so most of us are not at risk of eating too much fruit on the new program. However, if you already eat a lot of fruit each day, doubling or tripling that will result in slower weight loss. When in doubt, use common sense, liste

I brought it up because it's the one Harley targets it by name in his video and doesn't mention some of the programs more relevant to his point like Atkins, Weston-Price, and Mercola. I just think that better aim would be good when throwing slings and arrows.

Weight Watchers assigns fruits a 0 point value and encourages members to eat more fruit. If anything, they support rather than contradict what Harley and his supporters are saying. Hi, FebruaryGirl. Welcome. I hope your symptoms continue to subside as your results improve. I have a tendency to want to graze in the evenings too. I've started keeping a pint of grape tomatoes or blueberries with me and it helps with the desire to snack. Hopefully, you'll find something that works for you. Keep working at it.

I don't know about overrated. Didn't Lalanne live 20 years or so past the average? Is there any reason to believe that his lifestyle didn't contribute to that? Animals in the wild do exercise. They outrun prey. They climb trees for fruit. They migrate miles following seasonal food patterns. They swim after fish. The young often do play and 'practice' hunting. Besides longevity alone s

QuoteYou gotta be open minded to change over to vegan. You gotta have an open heart to feel whats right. You gotta have a sense of humor to appreciate 'skinny bitch'. Why? How does that fit into your 'as judgmental as you want to be' view? Honestly, Harley, you seem to turn on a dime when it's you that is scrutinized rather than doing the scrutinizing. I don't think it's the readers that

A few minutes a day is not going to cut it if you have a severe deficiency. Fruitylou, I'm not going to give medical advice, and I think you should see a health care professional about this. Your levels are low enough to constitute a serious problem and you will need to have your levels monitored for some time. Your bones could very well have already suffered from some damage (mine did). At the very least you probably want to double check the accuracy of your results be

Turpenoids are natural in carrots. It usually tastes soapy to me though, not like gasoline. Quotehttp://www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/cultivation.html Carrots can taste soapy or bitter - Two ingredients determine a carrot's flavour: sugars and terpenoids (volatile compounds that impart the carrot flavour). Some varieties are naturally high in terpenoids, which make the carrots taste bitter or soap

Mislu, I'm not very familiar with Jainism, but from what I've read they also exclude wine and root vegetables. I think their guidelines on what is edible don't limit themselves to vegetarianism. I agree with Tam's description, but the dictionary includes eggs. I guess that's really the cultural definition that vegetarianism is held by. It still doesn't excuse fish or chicken being served.

Honey is a vegetarian food, it's just not vegan. I don't like that 'vegetarian' seems to mean 'no meat' rather than 'high fruit and veg'. It completely alters the perception of vegetarianism.

Uh, yeah, I read the article. Did you read it? The alternatives sounded lame to me, save the smaller under counter fridge, which I mentioned as a possibility for some diets. Buying food everyday? It eats up a bunch of time going to and from the store and standing in the checkout line 7 times a week instead of once or twice. I'm also more likely to stray from my diet if I'm feeling tired o
