Thanks for the tips. If I put it in a brown paper bag, maybe with a banana or two, will that help it to ripen?

Thanks, Rob. It's green on the outside right now, so I guess I have to wait. Bummer...I am so ready to eat it!

We pick them from our bacyyard and eat them raw! Yummy. But like Brian said, watermelon is even higher in lycopenes, and you don't have to cook it.

I have already apologized for discussing "non-vegan" topics and had said I did not realize this was a vegan board. That being said, I also think it would be helpful for some of us non-vegans to be able to discuss those topics without personal attacks because some of us are still in the transition period. Did the vegans on this board go straight to being vegan, without any transiti

276. Papaya
I bought a papaya, but it was different than ones I have bought before. I think it said it was a "mandala papaya"? It is huge. So my question is, how do I know when it is ripe? Will it soften a bit? Thanks! Kim

When I went to Mexico and ate salads there, I ended up coming home with e-coli! Not fun! A friend of mine just got back from Mexico and ended up with the same thing.

I want to be able to blend fruits, veggies, greens, nuts/seeds...just about everything. Do I really need a 2 or 3hp blender for this? Thanks - Kim

How do all of you "organize" your kitchens with all of the fruits and veggies, nuts/seeds, etc?? I have a fruit bowl on the kitchen table that I put the apples in, then I have two baskets on the counter, but they are not big enough. So basically, my food is just sprawled out around the countertops. I need some ideas! What do you put all of your fruit in? Thanks in advance for t

I get a "foggy head" when my blood sugar is low, or when I have gone too long without eating, or have simply not eaten enough. Could this be your case as well? Or, were you previsouly eating a diet very high in carbohydrates, and now you aren't eating very many carbs?

They are not sure yet as to how the e-coli actually got in the bags, but they are checking it out. This has happened several times with those bagged lettuce/spinach items. Nasty stuff! Kim

Does anyone on here drink kefir? You can make it with any sort of fruit juice. We make our own kefir and kefir is LOADED with B12 and lots of other great nutrients. You need to make it by getting a "kefir grain" form someone that already has one they can share with you. Don't buy the kits in the store because they are junk. We have shared our grain with several people. Y

Onie, LOL about your panty hose sticking to the bread! I actually just got Dr. Grahams recipe book, and he has a recipe in there for bread like that, which you let bake out in the sun. It sounds wonderful. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for the tip! Kim

Ally...thanks for the tip about adding sprouted wheat berries to a salad or nori wraps. That sounds delicious. I have some wheat berries at home, so I will start soaking them tonight. I also have wheat germ at home, but I think it is toasted...I will have to check. Kim

What does raw wheat germ do for you? And how do you eat it/prepare it? Also, can wheat be sprouted? Thanks - Kim

Raw Foods Made Easy is my favorite cookbook right now. Simple, tasty recipes and not a lot of equipment needed.

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so overwhelmed right now. I agree with David Mason...try not to worry about the past, or the future. Just focus on the PRESENT and take care of yourself and your baby. Everything else will fall into place. Do you meditate at all? That might be very helpful for you. Hang in there, and just remember...this too shall pass! Everyhting changes. Hugs to you

Ian, you are so right about having your own chickens, goats, etc. And actually, that is the goal for my husband and I and we are working on it. We can't have those animals where we live now, but we plan on moving very son. We do grow most of our own veggies, and lots of tomatoes and herbs, but can't grow fruit because of where we live. I LOVE being able to get my own food right from the backy

It's not so much that I believe the raw foods diet is going to "fix" me, it's more about the quality of life that I want to have. I have a 3 year old daughter and an amazing husband that I want to be around with for a very long time. And I want to be able to chase my daughter around when I am 60 years old!

Ian, I had to laugh about your eating bugs comment. I have thought that many times, while eating my salads. In fact, my husband and I grow our own lettuce, kale, spinach, etc and I have come very close to biting into a nice little bug. And I am sure a few have gotten past me without me knowing it! It is IMPOSSIBLE to live life without killing something throughout your day. No one is perfect

What a wonderful post, paz. Thank you for that. Some of us are on different paths/different points in our "raw food diet" so there are going to be differences in the things we eat. But I don't want to offend anyone on this vegan forum with discussing eggs/dairy, etc, so I will just not discuss those things on here. Kim

OK...I just looked and saw that it does say Vegan on this forum, so I do apologize. I didn't know it would be so offensive to others to talk about eating eggs and dairy. My apologies! Maybe I will find a forum that is a Living and Raw Foods forum but is not vegan...is there such a thing?
