I didn't pay attention to the actual day I decided to start transitioning to raw, but it was sometime in early/mid-july last year. I can't believe how much I've learned and how much I've changed over the past year! I was so nervous going into this, but now I'm pretty much all raw (a couple cooked meals a month is about it for me). In 'celebration' I got my first raw 'cookbooks'. I know the int

I can't disagree with anything you say. When I was a kid, I went to the dentist 2X a year (they sent out appointment reminder cards and my mom never questioned it). I was made to rinse with that awful fluoride stuff. I STILL remember wanting to refuse it and them forcing me to swish with it for some ungodly amount of time and how disgusting it was. I want to hurl just thinking about it. Thankfull

What I found most interesting is that a big reason for the shift/expansion to more vegans/vegetarians is Russians traveling to India for vacation. That's just...not what one might expect to hear!

No, I wasn't 'defending' my position against you. There are just a few members on here who I figured would probably comment on this thread who seem like real 'purists'(and also seem as though they go out of their way to attack those with differing opinions). I do strive to be as close to 100% as I can/is reasonable, but I also don't feel a need to be so restrictive if my husband wants to go out t

I know when I went from a long time vegetarian diet (though very limited raw, fresh foods) to 100% vegan about 70% raw overnight, I definitely had a 'detox' period starting about day 3. I don't know if it was so much my body flushing out "toxins" as it was my body going through withdrawals from sugar, caffeine, dairy along with adjusting to the drastic increase in water and fiber. For m

This sounds a little odd, but another thing is that when I slip up and have a cooked food meal, I *FEEL* the difference in my energy, the food doesn't taste alive and while it's not always the case, I find it more times that not doesn't taste as good as I thought it would. Obviously, 100% raw is what my body really wants (if only my brain would follow suit!). I find 90%-ish raw is about what I ca

Does anyone do oil pulling? What is your opinion on it's effectiveness? Besides coconut, what is the best oil (I am allergic to coconuts)? I was thinking cold pressed hemp oil. I recently had a cavity filled and noticed another one I hadn't before this morning. I am just looking for ways to help prevent any new ones forming if at all possible and stumbled across the idea of oil pulling. I also br

I watched her interview too. She seems mentally ill (munchausen's perhaps)? Personally, I believe it is up to the individual to fact check, research alternate views and make up their own mind. No one should just blindly follow anyones advice (no matter how much of a "guru" they promote themselves as). Anyone who, say, gives up their chemo and radiation therapy (not that I agree with

Posted on another forum I'm on that is not specifically for raw foods. Curious though, as we have so many knowledgeable members on here (who know far more about a raw diet than many of the cooked food vegans commenting on this on the other forum) what you all make of this "theory"?

I am pretty natural. No makeup, no soaps, lotions, potions hair stuff, deodorant, perfumes ect... I've never felt a desire to wear it, and my husband doesn't care. As far as I'm concerned, most of it is toxic, and at best, a waste of money for something 100% non-essential. I don't use household chemicals either, I use a steam cleaner instead. Household chemicals are toxic for us and the fumes cou

I'm just not very good at writing out recipes:p but I don't mind sharing. I always appreciate when other have shared their recipes with me! 1 cup sprouted chickpeas 1 cup (soaked+rinsed) walnuts 15 dates (soaked+drained) 1 banana 2 TBSP raw agave Several diced strawberries Basically, you process the chickpeas and walnuts until they form a dough-like texture in the food processor and tr

I have found myself in this position too a few times. I personally find watching my favorite youtube raw vegans and re-watching some of the raw food (and SAD) documentaries gives me new inspiration. I meal plan too, which I find very helpful. If you have a live-in partner, you can enlist them to help 'remind' you to stick to the raw diet. My husband is an omni, but he knows how hard I've been try

My poor husband works nights 2X a week. I would definitely take some fruit to work so you can get that sugar-energy mid-shift without needing caffeinated beverages or processed foods. Be sure you list everything you need to do the next day before you head into work and if possible, prep your first meal of the day so it's easy to eat when you wake up. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep and inves

While I was already a long time veg, Forks Over Knives was one of the first of these types of documentaries I watched in over a decade. They are just too depressing, especially since FOK included animal abuse/torture in more aspects of 'our' daily lives than just the meat and fur industries. Specifically about the topic of animal-based foods though, the factory farming industry is awful and one o

Quotewhat would happen if you gave coffee to a bird how do you think it would react? Sadly, people do give coffee to birds (pet parrots). They think it's "cute" to see them drink it (same with offering them sips of beer or wine, and yes, they will get drunk). I've known people who have rescued/adopted parrots who's prior owners gave them coffee every day because the bird "n

I don't think the coffee is raw just because it's cold-brewed. The beans themselves are still roasted before brewing. And no, even if coffee was raw, I would not drink it. I find it best to avoid addictive substances completely. While coffee isn't like alcohol or drugs, it's still a stimulant and still has negative health implications when done to excess. I actually went about 4 years without

Ooey, gooey 'strawberry chip' sprout cookies! Looks just like real cookie dough: Tastes like regular cookies (but it's all raw): I used sprouted chickpeas and (soaked+drained) walnuts as the "flour", dates and a banana to sweeten it, and chopped strawberries in lieu of chocolate chips. Formed into balls, flattened and dehydrated overnight. YUM! Even thinking of making some

I was very sick my first few weeks eating raw. It increased my (prior) reflux, gave me serious digestive issues, made me extremely tired and I ached all over. I expected a detox reaction, but it was very severe for me. Not to mention, there was no way I could physically consume enough calories on raw at that time (had to work up to adequate portion sizes too!). While some people may respond favor

Well, I typically blend the fresh fruits right into the ice cream Especially fond of peaches, strawberries and mangoes in ice cream Dried fruit would probably be a good option though, especially a couple varieties chopped really tiny (almost like sprinkles)! I was also thinking maybe some different types of nuts and seeds than I normally consume, but not sure which types might work? Pumpkin an

The energy I get from eating raw foods and the convenience factor of fruits are definitely big pluses. I also enjoy the challenge of creating some more complex raw dishes, as I am now have been learning an entirely new set of skills in food preparation I never considered before. I am a creative-minded person, and coming up with your own raw food dishes definitely requires creativity!

QuoteI see it as the world taking a step in the right direction. McDonald's is losing money and Amy's is opening a drive-thru restaurant. In twenty years I suspect that we'll have seen remarkable progress toward a more raw/vegan world. I can't wait! Me too! I think people are finally waking up and realizing being veg/vegan isn't going to make you weak and sickly (quite the opposite actually!)

Been making lots and lots of (raw) banana ice cream lately Wondering what kind of 'toppings' I can used besides the usual walnuts or almonds? I do occasionally throw a couple unsweetened carob chips on top, but I don't think those are raw (but they are tasty!). Also, any clever ideas for raw ice cream sundaes? Or other frozen treats besides ice cream and popsicles (been doing a lot of frozen beca
