QuoteI notice the two of you even have the same name! Interesting that he can't/won't fly. Maybe he doesn't because you don't? I love this thread. There's nothing medically to stop him from flying, he just...won't. We don't know much about his background, but the first 10 years of his life he likely spent most (if not all) his time locked up and not allowed out. He probably doesn't realize wh

Thought I'd introduce my little buddy Kiwi the amazon parrot! I rescued this little guy 6 years ago out of a neglect scenario. He's a 'raw vegan' by nature, in fact, all the fresh produce he eats is why his plumage is almost iridescent (and he smells nice too!). My moms been wanting a picture of all the fruits and veg I've been eating in a week, so I laid them all out and got a eager "helper

Those "fries" look like a fantastic snack! Will definitely be doing some of those up in the dehydrator this evening! Eggplant for "bacon". Interesting. May have to pick one up at the store today and give it a try (just salted, no soy). I've also been thinking about ways I could possibly use sprouted lentils to make raw sausage patties (I used to make "lentil sausage&q

QuoteSome mushrooms are no good raw. Portobello is one of them. They have a carconogenic chemical when raw. Evreynow and then they are probably OK but not everyday. Good to know. Thank you for letting me know. Are regular brown mushrooms ok? QuoteIt's always good to hear of people fermenting their grains. How do you make the oatgurt? I soak 1cup oat groats overnight, then drain and rin

I have never used a vitamix so I don't know how it compares to yours specifically. Compared to the run of the mill Hamilton Beach blender I had before, this one is amazing! It purees EVERYTHING and has no problem with ice or hard vegetables/seeds.

Wouldn't think to use fruit in a salad dressing, but I bet it's delicious! Unfortunately, there is no way we can afford all organic, so I have to buy some produce at Winco. They have a pretty nice produce section actually and had guavas in stock for a few weeks a couple weeks ago. They are absolutely delicious! My parrot went nuts over them like they were bird crack or something His species are n

What I do with a blender full of veggies: Strain it and drink the juice (the red cabbage made it purple): The pulp I usually either toss in the yard or make "burgers" from (I've been making them since before I went raw, so I need to experiment with how to do a raw juice pulp burger). Last night I decided to "experiment" and stuff a portobello with the pulp and de

Quoteremember the video where him and freelee talk about having done meth riding their bikes? I find him far too abrasive for me to watch all his videos, but I have to ask are you're serious with this comment or just joking? I'm fairly new to raw but if this guy does meth, that would explain a lot of what I've wondered when I saw his videos. I wondered if he drank heavily in addition to being

It's not your site, I just have pretty bad reading comprehension. Things just seem to flutter in and out of my head as fast as I read them, so I have to re-read EVERYTHING multiple times to be sure I got the point. I am interested in sprouting and the benefits it can provide. I set up some of my mason jars today for sprouting and will be giving my first batch a try over this next week to see what

Thanks everyone. I will definitely be looking more into sprouted foods and have plenty of mason jars I can use to sprout in. Not a lot of the you tub "raw vegans" I've been watching have put all that much emphasis on them. I will also be drastically cutting back on the nuts, but will keep my avocados. @sproutarianman- I am reading over your website. Seems like there are some interes

As someone new to raw (started phasing out cooked foods last July), I have found myself questioning everything I ever thought I knew about nutrition and will never be able to look at cooked food in the same way again. It's like the first time I made the connection between animals and meat, only much more convoluted on what to eat and how to proceed. I joined another veg/vegan forum when I started

QuoteNow, you may say where is all the proof of this, but l say, wait until l write my book because posting all the evidence here would take about 200 studies and about 20,000 words at least. So until you write you book, are there any books you recommend to read for someone new to this and very, very confused by all the technical information? Especially a suggestion to start reading studies.

They are edible and blend up pretty well.

Hoping since I'm new it's ok for me to jump in and share For breakfast, I typically like (soaked overnight and drained) oat groats with oatgurt (fermented oat groats) and fresh oj Fresh batch of "oatgurt" Lunches I *LOVE* huge smoothies. my blender is 70oz, I typically do fruit: Dinners, I have been doing green juice or large salad, something simple since I still h

Wow! This thread took off over night! I guess I will have to really do some research into the different kinds of fats, because it looks a lot more complicated than I initially thought. Also looks like it's a fairly 'debatable' subject too, and not as cut and dry as I thought it would be. Though, one food I cannot eat is coconuts. I am allergic to them and have been my whole life. The nuts I have

As a matter of taste, I prefer mono 99% of the time with fruit juices. Occasionally, I mix melon juices. Green juices, on the other hand, I prefer a good mix of veggies in.

I have a "Native Juicer" (that's the brand, it is not a juicer) blender. It's more affordable and tears through anything I throw in it. I also love the size! I can make huge smoothies in it. I've seen the Blentec and Vitamix blenders, and they look really small to me, and cost more than some people (myself included) could reasonably afford. This is my blender:

I'm very much the same way. I cannot handle the texture of green smoothies (I have lots of issues with food textures, always have). I also have a cheap juicer that doesn't do a good job with leaves, so I blend them then strain the juice out. That makes a thicker juice, but not unhandlable. Before I went raw, I'd often take the juice pulp, mix with flax and oats, then make burgers. I just got a de

I have been transitioning to raw since July 2014. I was a vegetarian for 15 years before that, so it wasn't as big of a shock to the system. However, after going raw, I've found I have really been craving fatty foods like nuts, seeds and avocados despite eating a whole lot of greens and fruit. I've actually gained about 10 pounds since going raw. Guessing that has to do with all the fatty foods.

Hello everyone! I was an ovo-lacto vegetarian for 15 years until I suddenly began reacting to dairy products last summer. I have been transitioning to a raw vegan diet since late July and succeeding in some areas, but could improve in others (nuts are addictive!). Overall, I'm eating mostly raw now (like maybe 80-90%, depending on the day) and feeling really good. I am on another veg forum, but n
