So I've tried the raw vegan "ice cream" made out of bananas. It is yummy, but bananas aren't necessarily a flavor that goes with every other flavor. I was thinking of using (mung bean or oat) sprout milk instead since it's more bland. Kind of want to do a mint carob chip ice cream (call the raw police! I know the carob chips I get are likely not 100% raw). Wondering if that would work?

Right now it's about 42 and kind of spitting rain here and there with some wind. I know everybody complains, but coming from a cold, snowy climate originally, I *love* the weather in Portland! I'll take "spitting rain" (or even pouring rain) to snow any day!

But why add this extra step? Why buy high pressure processed juice instead of some fresh fruit you take home and juice (or juice at home and bring with you)? That's what I don't get. It costs less, it doesn't take *that* much time, it's fresher from home even if you have it in the office fridge for a couple hours, less waste since you'd presumably put justice from home in a reusable bottle...

I guess my point is, why subject it to this process in the first place? We humans do not have a good track record with "miracle" processes. Too many times something that's been hailed as "perfectly safe" and "a marvel of science" when it first came out has later had unforeseen/unintentional negative side effects come to light as people began including the product reg

Wow. I'm with SueZ. It takes no time at all to mash up some avocado with lemon juice (or at least I like lemon juice in my guacamole). Never seen a reason to buy store bought guacamole. It's just too easy to make at home to justify paying 10X more for a chemical laden store bought version. Even before I went raw, I was of the mindset it was always better to make things at home from scratch bec

That made my skin crawl. Those poor children! The vaccination program is the biggest scam there ever was. Not only do they make money from the vaccinations, they make money from the treatment of the (often long term or lifetime) "side effects" the vaccinations create. Disgusting.

Since going raw, I've had SO much more energy, improved focus and think a lot clearer. Those factors have all allowed me to be more productive. The longer I stay raw, the more things I need to find to fill my time (seriously, I have a constant state of euphoria/energy that make me feel like I'm on some kind of stimulant!). For me, that means more creative projects with better results because of g

I rarely speak to my family and don't visit. I'm sure they don't talk about me much either. I'm an atheist, fairly liberal, don't buy into the mainstream media, do not participate on social media, do not see doctors, don't condone torturing/exploiting animals, eat "rabbit food" (i.e. fruits and vegetables), married for love (who happened to not be of similar socioeconomic status and not

For thousands of years, a small portion of the population died from contagious diseases shortly after contracting them. It was a form of natural selection that "thinned the herd" so to speak of weak genetics and weak immune systems. The rest of the healthy, strong population recovered and formed a natural immunity in the way their immune systems were designed to do. Now, untold numbers

This is an excellent idea! We live just outside of Portland, but I would imagine this kind of technology would extend to the suburbs eventually.

Oatmeal (just plain cooking oats, not the packages stuff with sugar and additives) a couple weeks ago. My husband won't eat it, so I saw no need to waste it. It's not like I was eating McDonalds or something. I don't really feel "bad" or anything. It's been a bit odd acclimating to sprouted oats or just fruit for breakfast instead but I just mix in some fruit and have some juice and it'

My top 3: 1. The amount of energy and mental clarity (I think I may have been essentially a braindead robot running on autopilot for the past decade or so) 2. The clearer skin (no more acne!) 3. My blender!

I was only able to find fenugreek in a sprouting blend, but I will be trying to get some photos up soon of my setup once I get everything in "rotation" I have 26 sprouting jars and am still rotating in the last ones so I will have a constant supply. The Whole project cost well under $100 and my husband did the math, and sprouts are really cheap to grow (with the bonus of being very nutr

I'm not interested in stark minimalism (the design style you refer to) or restricting myself into "owning 100 items" or "being able to pack all my belongings in a backpack". I have bright and colorful furniture (an eclectic assortment of garage sale/thrift store/free by the side of the road finds I've refinished/repainted/reupholstered and really love) and I've kept things I f

When we moved halfway across the country in 2013, I was so horrified by the amount of crap we had accumulated (once all pulled out and packed up). When my husband and I got our first apartment 4 years prior, we had a bed, 2 boxes of clothes and that was about it. 4 years later, we had a 13' Uhaul full of I don't even know what. As my hubby (who would most definitely be a minimalist if it weren't

@Manta- I am sorry to hear of Celias diagnosis That's a terrible thing for them to have. What a sweet baby to keep her spirits up despite being so sick! Has the vet put her on an RX pelleted diet for PBFD positive birds? I am normally not a fan of pelleted diets for healthy birds, but for birds with serious health issues, some of the RX diets can really improve their quality of life. I believe Ro

I like to drown mine in sauce (raw of course). I'll let it sit for 10-15 minutes and they'll get softer after 'soaking' a bit in the sauce. Other veggies you can use: Yellow squash Cucumber Carrot Sweet Potato You could also probably spiralize firm fruits like cored apples and pears and make a fruit sauce. Perhaps that would be more palatable?

So I am starting up a small sprout "garden" in my apartment. I have VERY limited space, and am trying to maximize what I have to work with. I will be using converted mason jars (with mesh under the lids) for sprouting and have 2 dozen jars on a small shelving unit under my window as well as a tray for wheat grass. I have mung beans, radish and broccoli sprouts. I would also like to spro

To be clear, when I say 'craving cooked foods' I mean like oatmeal for breakfast or rice and steamed veggies, not hamburgers and twinkies lol. I haven't eaten that kind of highly processed junk food or fast food in about 8 years and was a ovo-lacto vegetarian for 15 before going raw. I guess this is all a process and I do feel I am on my way to being a raw vegan for the long term. I just kind

Hey sproutman- I did actually take your advice about shifting to lower fat and made up some sprouting jars to incorporate more sprouts in my diet. I just got my first 'batch' of mung beans, with the radish and broccoli sprouts coming along nicely. I have already been snacking on the mung beans and figuring out ways to utilize these sprouts in my recipes. I will be experimenting tonight with some

I started out at "80% raw" about 6 months ago and have been working my way up to 100% raw ever since. It was kind of hard at first, and I definitely still wanted cooked foods, but resisted as much as I could. Over the holidays, I did kind of slip up a bit and eat a little more cooked (still vegan) foods and felt so awful compared to the raw foods. In the past 2 weeks, I just haven't had

Any way you could post the sources/links to studies for you information? I was actually debating the changes foods go through when cooked with my husband the other night. I would be very interested in some scientific studies to back up my point. The internet has so much conflicting information to weed through and I only have one nutritional book with one reference to the toxicity of grilled m

@ John Rose- What you've posted is very interesting and I've heard this theory about bleeding monthly not being healthy several times now. I have also noticed my periods getting a lot lighter with no cramping since I began transitioning to raw vegan 6 months ago. I have actually gained weight since going raw, and am not over or under weight. I'm at about 80-90% raw right now and working toward

QuoteI must get a parrot too!! Will that piss of the animal activists? They are wonderful animals IF you can put up with their bad traits. Most people don't want a pet that screams, bites, chews stuff up, needs constant attention and will outlive them (the big parrots live 60+ years), all of which is part of owning a parrot. The average large parrot like Kiwi will go through 10 homes in a lif

What exactly is it about fresh fruit you don't like? The sweetness, the texture, the chewing? I find smoothies are one of the best ways to get variety and easier to get down than eating endless amounts of whole fruits. I use (naturally) bananas as the base because they make everything so creamy and easy to drink and then add other fruits. I toss (not strong tasting) greens in my smoothies so
