For me, the line is being careful in nature and not deliberately hurting anything (which I think most vegans by the vegan society definition of veganism also follow) to the best of my capacity. Obviously if something is microscopic and we can't see it, there's not much we can do about that. But I will check the ground when I'm out walking for slugs/drowsy bees/ants etc. If I'm gardening

All I do right now is aerobics and long walks. I would love to live near the sea and be able to run and swim everyday!

Only a few I haven't tried- african cucumber, jackfruit, snake fruit, rose apple and santol. I think I love mangosteen the best. The taste is so fragrant and unusual! Sapodillas (chikoos) are a close second. They taste like caramel Another cool link, Trive!

Ahhh. I thought the black colour might have been the in-between between green and red. Doh! I guess I'll check out the seeds. This has happened before- years ago, I had a red bell pepper and the plant was kind of small but it put all its energy into one massive red pepper that was skinny and never filled out (which then went moldy). Maybe next year I'll use bigger pots or growbags. < feel

when i say shrivelled, i mean kind of skinny and shrunken rather than the shrivelled effect you get in rotting produce. yeah, not worth getting ill over but this is my prized only fruit on the whole plant! I can't bear to throw it away

I am growing a red bell pepper plant and the one(!) fruit on there never went red, for about a month it's stayed green, with a lot of black colour and is shrivelled. Not sure if it's safe to eat? I'm assuming it doesn't want to ever turn red, but I don't know if the darkened skin is a sign of some kind of rot or plant defiency. Anyone experienced in bell peppers?

well done on the weight loss If you're worried about your face, you could try facial exercises (try googling Eva Fraser and carolyn's facial fitness). If you stick with it, you can get great results. There's exercises for jowls, sunken cheeks etc. I'm sure there's a lot of free resources on the net about it.

Quote PAVLOVSK, Russia – The world's first seed bank survived World War II thanks to 12 Russian scientists who chose to starve to death rather than eat the grain they were saving for future generations. Now the Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry's seed bank is in danger again, this time because of court-approved plans to rip up its vast fields of genetically diverse plants and build fancy

There's traces of insects and @#$%& over all our food. Fruit, veg etc. My boyfriends mum fixed us a salad once and when my boyfriend looked very closely at the lettuce, it was SMOTHERED in tiny aphids, that I personally would not have noticed. I've found a grub in a bag of lettuce, a tiny snail on a blackberry. Who knows what I've eaten with my glasses off! :O The article makes me think that c

I don't think we should trust our tastebuds too much. What we like the taste of and what's good for our bodies are very different, IMHO. Fresh wheatgrass juice is hardly the most palatable juice, yet I feel it is beneficial to me. I like the taste of nori, but I remember buying a seaweed salad mix from Clearspring and gagging on one of the particularly slimy varieties- I was chewing it forever

Is the author trying to suggest seaweed is sentient? If so, the vegan society obviously think the complete opposite since they approve spirulina products. Is there any data available on tests that have been done on spirulina, nori etc looking specifically for high levels of dangerous contaminants? I already know of the arsenic issue with Hijiki. (That webpage has no sources, just an article

Personally, when I have PMS, eating/drinking makes me feel grounded. I'd go with juices or smoothies, to make sure I was getting some nutrition (unless I felt nauseous).

The dry/scratchy throat side-affect concerns me about beet juice. Doesn't seem to be the kind of reaction you expect from drinking something healthy. But still, beet juice is tasty and I'm sure in smaller amounts it's more beneficial- I read somewhere 1/3 of a beet is the most that should be juiced. If I make a potent juice, I follow it up with lots of water, and sometimes dilute the juice if

haha, OMG, I used to make the most ridiculous smoothies- an entire pineapple, huge amounts of kale, rocket, watercress, spinach, spirulina, wheatgrass powder, strawberries, maca etc. My skin glowed like crazy (in a good way). If I had a decent smoothie blender, I would still make those monsters I never noticed anything beneficial from maca, but then, when you're eating a lot of good stuff it'

I agree. It's not so common now, but I can remember a few years ago on various raw food forums that losing teeth and losing hair were considered detox symptoms! Nearly every negative experience was written off as detox! I think it's a lot better now though. When people have problems, it seems forum posters in general are asking about the OP's food intake and lifestyle etc, which is definitely

My nan & gramps have ALWAYS had veg with their meals. I don't think I've ever not seen them make a dinner without lots of greens! But growing up, my own parents didn't have much money so a lot of our veg came from tins (gross gross gross!) which really put me off my dinner. Still, I'd get told off for not eating my peas and being told I couldn't have pudding unless I ate them!

Yay! The ones in my garden look like this: Are all varieties edible? I read on some site that you should remove all seeds or the little tiny hairs on them give you an itchy bum! (not sure if it's true or not but given how spiky the plant is, I wouldn't be surprised!).
