I think David Z Mason's blood results (see ) disprove the idea that eating too much sugar from fruit is bad for us. > Dehydrated raw cookies are NOT healthier than steamed broccoli! This is debatable. Depending on what is in the cookies, and assuming they are just part of a balanced raw diet, then they could be. I personally found that once I got myself to a point where I was happy

If it is anything like the Indian restaurants I used to go to, then not very much raw food at all. They would serve "salad" with dips as a starter - consisting of a bit of onion, a couple of slices of cucumber and a leaf of lettuce. I would recommend contacting the restaurant before you go and see if they can make a special salad for you. Rob

Hi everyone I'm leading a wild food walk this Saturday (24th) starting from Canada Water tube station going to Russia Docks Woodland which is a hidden treasure of nature and wildlife so close to the city. The walk costs £15 for a minimum of 1 hour with a small group. We're likely to find dandelion, plantain, jack by the hedge, wild leek, hawthorn, sow thistle, chickweed and hopefully many

Rinse the sprouts at least once a day, possibly twice a day and keep them in the fridge. Rob

Yes, as soon as you blend or juice, then the food starts to loose nutrition. Although it doesn't necessarily become "bad" for you, just not as nutritious. Keeping it in the fridge will of course keep it slightly better than not in the fridge. Rob

Yes, Pogo is a vegan anarchist cafe in Hackney, more vegan junk food than raw though. They do have salad on the menu though! Rob

Philippa - only Red Sugar in Edinburgh The owners of that place are thinking of opening a similar place in Glasgow. But I'm sure there must be more, at least places that have raw options. If people know of places I could start to maintain and publish a list. I know someone on this board was going to open a raw friendly juice bar, I can't remember where and I've not heard anything more abo

Yeah, the number of places in London where you can get a raw meal has gone from one to five in less than a year! I did a quick post on my blog yesterday with a brief bit of info about each place and a link to it's website: Today we went to Dragonfly in Highgate, the avocado, tarragon and ginger soup was delicious but the main course had far too many sprouts for my liking: Rob

Or just buy smaller avocados! I get some nice little ones that come from Spain, they weigh about 100g each, which according to Nutritiondata.com gives about 120 calories from fat. (Of course I'm not 80/10/10 so I'll often eat 2 of them!) Rob

I couldn't only go shopping once every two weeks! I buy fresh fruit at least twice a week, sometimes 3 or 4 times a week. For greens, look out for local wild greens. Greens don't keep fresh very long - I go out every day and pick fresh wild greens. If that's not possible, maybe you could grow some. Rob

Learn about local wild foods. Grow your own food. It's what we should be doing anyway, the world situation might help us on our way! Rob

Try and choose fruit that is as ripe as possible when you buy it. Most fruits do not ripen well after they have been picked (with the exception of avocados and bananas.) (I think, although I could be wrong on this one, that avocados often fall off the tree before they are ripe anyway, and then ripen on the ground.) Rob

I gave up washing any produce about 10 years ago and I've never had a problem. At one place I lived at in Spain we used to use animal manure on the land and I still picked wild greens and didn't wash them. I think the chances of getting anything like that from a vegetarian diet are very, very small, and if you are raw then also your body has a very good chance of fighting it. I really wouldn't

I don't understand why Bryan closed that topic, no-one can avoid eating bugs by mistake so it is a very valid question which I would like to reply to. Any bugs you do eat will either be killed by you chewing them or by the acid in your stomach. Also the kind of bugs that live on produce are not the parasitic kind that could live inside you. You generally get parasites from eating meat - if

They are very different things. Carob has a fairly sweet flavour, I use it in combination with other sweeteners when I am making chocolate. It is not chocolate but does add to the flavour when used with cacao powder. Cacao powder on its own is bitter and needs additional sweeteners, but it is what creates the true chocolate flavour. It really depends on what you are making. Hope this help

At that price, no I haven't bought any! I use normal incandescents, I would never use flourecent due to the flicker (and more recently due to hearing about the mercury). I guess that the LED bulbs are not in shops yet as they are so new and there will probably be quite low demand for them until they come down in price. That site is the only one I've heard of selling them, it might even be the
