I like Shazzie, I think she has that fun, approachable personality that can tell you why and how to eat raw food, but without making it too complicated! She looks great, her blog is fantastic (www.shazzie.com), and importantly, she can put across a raw food healthy lifestyle without any 'new age' talk. I haven't got a problem with new age stuff (been called a hippy many times myself!), but it can

Hello SkyeBlue! Sorry to hear about your situation! It's possible to be unhealthy under any 'healthy' diet. Because we've been eating so badly for so very long, when we change our diets, we get lost a little- tend to listen more to other people than our own human bodies! You mention you were drinking lots of green juices yet still became iron deficient? How much iron do you think you wer

Hi Jen, I've only been raw for a little while now (detox just starting to kick in, uggghh!). I'm no expert on this, but just for peace of mind, is it worth your friend signing up to fitday.com to log his daily intake just so you guys can be sure he's getting everything he needs nutritionally, and then take it from there. A few years back when I was in my mid-twenties I started losing t

245. Re: Skin!
Something happened after me posting this. A couple of days ago I went out to a nature park with my other half, and we were walking along, and he stops and says "Look at me for a second... wow, you're looking really healthy!" Yayyyyy!

I bought some mesquite oil about 5 years ago or so, and didn't know what to do with it, how much to use etc. It did feel really gentle and soothing though. Back then, there was only 1 kind you could buy in the health shops, now there's loads! Choices, choices ;-)

At the moment, on the front of Yahoo, there's a news snippet about a burger made with donut buns (or something like that) and underneath it says 'Consider a raw-food diet instead. Which links to this: Nice to see raw food getting out there ;-) (Just to add- in the article it mentions about taking supplements when raw, which we all know isn't a neccesity but since most people these days

Hi ferg! Yep, I like my nuts (I never soak them either, don't have the time!) I'll try easing up on them to see if it helps Thanks for the advice! Khale- the aloe vera sounds like a great idea. I've been one of these people who tends to overscrub so maybe it needs a bit of soothing instead ;-)

250. Skin!
Hello folks! At the moment I'm high raw, and although everything about me is looking far better, I need a little extra help- in the name of vanity ;-) In short, the skin on my face has a slightly pimply look to it even when I don't have any actual spots- it's been like this since my 2 year caffeine binge! I've got two red blotches on my face at the mo, that I'm pretty sure are part of my d

251. Re: figs!
I tried my first fresh fig from the farmer's market the other day, and was properly wowed. It kind of tasted like some kind of coconut pudding with jam in the middle. No fig burn though :-) :-) :-) Super expensive, however! It was 89p for 1 fig!!!

Hi Siracusa < raw newbie ;-) If you go to your local health food store, you should be able to buy a small loaf of sprouted hemp bread or something similar. I'm pretty sure this bread isn't raw, but it's a good in-between food for getting off of white carbs completely. With your salads, try having a mega salad of lettuce, diff. coloured peppers, baby tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, oliv

Hiya la_veronique! There are 2 kinds of errors- ones that pop-up like little alert boxes in Windows and the 'blue screen of death' errors (Windows vanishes, and the screen goes blue! Ouch!). If you can jot down the error messages, or error message reference number, you can search for them in Yahoo/Google to find exactly why they're happening If you do/did have a virus, I think you proba

Hiya- What are you writing your emails in- Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, Eudora etc? Also, does the computer restart, do any error messages flash up etc? Do you get any unusual messages when you start up the computer? In the meanwhile, back-up your folders. Be sure to back up any personal files on the desktop, because if Windows is corrupt, it will take files on the desktop with it, whereas a fol

Breakfasts I usually have a fruit bowl and/or smoothie, some wheatgrass. Lunches / Dinners Giant funky salads- shredded lettuce, carrot, beetroot, chunks of tomato, sundried tomato, slices of different coloured peppers, pomegranate seeds, nuts, seeds and a dressing, or topped with houmous. Lettuce wraps- mixed veg and houmous or tahini rolled up in lettuce leaves. Courgetti and ma

Have only of you folks made these Jamaican Jerk Kabobs? If you don't have a deydrator, you could so easily eat these fresh and crunchy, the marinade is that good, or alternatively you could put the oven on a really low temperature and keep the door open just to give them some warmth. I had these THREE days running. I did, however, omit the chili as the spice made them hot enough. <

Bugs are cute! :-) I had one of those little black and orange larvae things on me a while ago (somehow it was in the car I was in!) and I had to keep hold of it till we got a chance to stop so I could put it outside, and I swear the thing nipped me! Picture of mid-stage larvae: In the UK, ladybugs are called ladybirds! I had a few incidences when I was little that I feel so bad

Yay! Durians in the UK! Thanks, folks I was starting to think they were the botanical equivelent of the loch ness monster or sasquatch! They had young coconuts in Tescos? You are so lucky! I just went down to the shops and couldn't even find a decent chili pepper ;-) I'm near Heathrow, I don't mind going to London to stock up on stuff! Out of curiosity, how much does a standard durian

I am totally in awe of the tiger, and the other two are so cute! I think I'll probably get the word vegan tattooed on me somewhere visible (to start conversations about veganism ;-) )- I was originally thinking of going for something botanical, but maybe an animal fits my personality better There's a semi-famous tattoo picture on the net of a woman who had some birds tattooed over/above her p

Hi Danae! I'm an ex-coca-cola and black coffee addict ;-) Used to drink gallons of the stuff each day. I weaned myself off of them gradually (think 2 cans of coke and 1 coffee a day instead of 4 cans and 2 cups!), but would occasionally slip up and get tempted. If you haven't done so already, it may be worth removing the stuff from your house, as when you get cravings and/or feel low energy

Wow! Thanks for all the info, Jodi! Plastic-based pigments... that's kind of creepy! I'm fascinated with body art, wanted a tattoo every since I was about 12, but never got round to it. Hmm. Some of the pigments look like they may be something I could be allergic to... Do you think they do a strand-test for tattoos? Cut off a piece of skin, make a small tattoo and wait 24 hours ;-)

What do we all think about tattooing and piercing and their effect on health? Bad? Dangerous? (I know that most tattoos aren't created with vegan ink, but am considering a vegan tattoo, one day)

I've been sort of tinkering with the idea of doing one of those colon cleanses (the price has put me off in the meanwhile!). Just how much psyllium do you have to take in one day? I did a liver detox some years back, and was taking psyllium about 3 times a day and never passed anything like the pictures on those colon cleanse web sites! (In fact, everything was completely normal).

I believe massive aspartame consumption kicked off my salicylate allergies during my teens. When I was younger, I was bought up on diet drinks (my mum wouldn't drink the normal coke, thought it was bad for our teeth as well, haha!). For some reason, every single weekend I would get a migraine. Why at the weekend? What was so special about a Sunday morning/afternoon that I would get a migrai

I don't see anything wrong with recognising race/cultural differences as a means to help bring health to other people's lives, by recogising where past generations start 'patterns' of unhealthy eating. For instance, an old friend of mine was a Hindhu vegetarian. She lived on a lot of milk and clarified butter, and had horrendous periods- I remember one that lasted 3 weeks. Could it have been h
