I fasted on Friday (yesterday) instead of Thursday because I still had too much fruit in the house Thursday and didn’t want it to go bad by Saturday (today). I also prepped myself this time by not eating any fatty foods on Thur such as seeds, nuts or avocados. So I ate only fruit and some mild lettuce. I checked on Fitday.com and I was at 6% fat. This is really low for me. One of my recent

The fast yesterday was much easier than last week. I still got a really bad headache from it. Thursday is still the best fasting day for me. I have too much fruit on Monday in the house to wait until Tuesday to eat it. At the beginning of the week I had cravings for Mexican food. I made raw tortillas for the first time, burritos with walnuts and other recipes. I don’t normally use recip

Bryan, you have explained exactly what I'm going through. Now I understand why after I have my green smoothy I want to eat handfuls of nuts. I love green smoothies, but would like to be satiated. After eating the nuts, I just feel awful. There might be emotional eating problems going on, too. I never heard of a green smoothie fast. I wouldn't think it's a real fast because there's food in

I'm going to return to the topic of the pictures. I think they look great. It gives me hope that one day, I might again gain weight. I can't stand photos of me right now. I look like an AIDS patient because I'm so thin. But I came into being raw due to illness. So I have a lot of toxins to get rid of before my body will be clean enough to put on more weight. From what I'm experiencing, this

I fasted yesterday and haven't broke it yet. I feel really weak right now. It was hard to keep from eating yesterday. I wanted to eat all day. I'm thinking of changing my fasting day to Monday or Wednesday. I'm not at home all day and it's easier to fast when I'm not around my fridge. I lost 4 lbs on this short fast. Wed I weighed 109, this morning I weighed 105. I really hate being th

I had a hard time fasting on Thursday. I wanted to eat. It was like an addiction. I kept thinking, "Oh, I can do this next week. What does it matter anyway? I'm putting myself through this. I don't really have to fast. This was my bright idea. No one's forcing me to fast." Then I remembered how I'm tired of suffering with itchiness, of old mucus in my sinuses that won't go a

This week I tried a week long mucus cleansing regime as proposed in "Survival in the 21th Century." It said to "expect worms, putrefactive strings, solid particals, stones and/or ropes of mucus unimaginable in size." Well, I didn't get any of that. OK, I got out some mucus, but not as much as I had hoped for. Perhaps it's because I've been raw for 2 1/2 years. It also sai

I have been thinking for quite some time to fast one day a week. I decided to go ahead to speed up my detox. It will take me 10 more years to detox the way I'm going now. That's only because I have so many decades of bad dieting behind me. My first fast was last week. I chose Thursday to fast because I usually don't have any obligations Thursdays and Fridays so I can rest. I felt very w

Great site. How long have you been a fruitarian? How long did it take to notice developing muscle? Just curious. I would love to gain some muscle because I'm so bony. I don't need huge muscles, just a little. You're really inspiring.

I'm growing lettuce in a box outside and the leaves are curling. The plants don't seem to grow very large either. I live in the tropics and that may have something to do with it. I have no place in my house for plants. It's the rainy season and we get lots of rain and humidity right now. Any suggestions?

For those of you in the States celebrating the 4th of July, what are you planning on serving? This comes up because my husband is talking about having a BBQ. Since I don't eat the same as he does I was thinking of some fruit and then a large green salad. I was wondering if anyone might have a special dish or menu that you might willing to share with us.

I'm going to be in Berkeley for a couple of weeks in Aug. Are there any raw food activities happening during that time? Any good raw restaurants there? I would love to meet other raw foodists, too. Please feel free to email me.

I eat the cashew fruit when they're in season. There are trees down the street from me that I harvested this year. I like the taste of the fruit in my smoothies. They're sweet and have a wonderful unusual flavor that I really don't know how to discribe. I have about 30-40 cashew nuts in shells at my house that I haven't done anything with yet. I'm not sure how to get the nut out of the shell

Thanks for the great ideas. They all sound really good. Chickory: I'll look for the book. Thanks for the suggestion. I tried sprouting fenugreek that I bought from the local Indian market, but they got squishy. I think it might have been processed for grinding and cooking. Oh, well. It smelled great. EmilyS: Sunflower greens? Did you plant them and eat the greens? You mean the sm

I'm just getting into sprouting and was wondering what your favorite sprouts were. So far I've only tried kamut, quinoa, sunflower seeds, and flax seeds. Out of those I like kamut and sunflower seeds the best. Quinoa doesn't have much of a taste and is more like filler, imo. I like flax sprouts but am still having a hard time sprouting them. I've tried various things, but without much luck

Wow! Great thread. Thanks for starting it, Vegangoddess. I was thinking about getting raw cacao when I was in the States last month, but my gut said no. I'm really sensitive to caffeine and really don't want to eat anything that's not optimal right now. I was also unsure about the health benefits it would offer. Raw cacao may be great for some especially during the early stages of transit

I have some seeds that are raw according to the packages. But when I tried to sprout them, it didn't work. One was pumkin seeds from Trader Joes, another was sunflower seeds both from Trader Joes and other brands. Does that make a difference? They go bad after a day and change color. Also, I have seseme seeds that are supposed to be raw that didn't sprout. All these are shelled and ready t

I would love to hear more of your story. How did you begin your raw journey? How long have you been raw? What do you eat most of? How did your diet change over the years? What changes did your body go through? Did you get really thin at first and then after healing gain? What kept you motivated? I'm sure there's a lot more questions, but I'll start with those for now. Although I've been r

WimC, I'm glad you brought this up. I've lost what I feel is too much weight. I was told to try eating more sprouts which would build tissue, so I'm now in the process of sprouting. I hope it works. Oneris, would you mind expanding on combining foods well? I'm just curious to see if there's something I could be combining wrong. It's highly possible. I'm eating way too much fat, I'm sur
